Banzai Bills (マグナムキラー, Magnum Killer) are enemies from the Mario series.

Origin[edit]

Sprite from Super Mario World.

Banzai Bills first debuted in Super Mario World as recurring enemies, and has become recurring enemies in later Mario games. They are larger versions of Bullet Bills with a shark-tooth smile and lack of white arms and hands.

In their earlier appearances, Banzai Bills are fired from offscreen and move towards the player in a straight line, unlike how Bullet Bills are shot from Bill Blasters. In later games, however, they are shot from large cannons. Similar to the Bullet bills, they can be easily defeated by jumping on them.

In Super Smash Bros.[edit]

As an assist[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. Melee[edit]

As a background character[edit]

Banzai Bills occasionally appear in their original forms as background characters in the Yoshi's Island stage.

As a stage hazard[edit]

Banzai Bill in Princess Peach's Castle in Melee.

Banzai Bills appear as a stage hazard in the Princess Peach's Castle stage.

Banzai Bills will appear from beyond the blast line and start flying towards the castle. It will then burrow into a random wall where it will start to flash, indicating that it is about to explode. When it explodes, any fighter caught in its blast radius will take heavy damage and extreme knockback. The explosion involves numerous small hits before finally resulting in one final blow that causes a one-hit KO, though it is possible to DI out of the explosion before the final, fatal blow. Any fighter who makes contact with a Banzai Bill before it explodes will take light damage and knockback.

Trophy[edit]

In the 1.0 and 1.01 versions of Melee, the Banzai Bill trophy is named "Bullet Bill", and says "In Super Smash Bros. Melee, all Bullet Bills are extra large" instead of naming Banzai Bills at all; in reality, Bullet Bills are similar-looking but different enemies. In the 1.02 NTSC and PAL version, Banzai Bills are named. The game it is listed as first appearing in is also that of the Bullet Bill (Super Mario Bros.), however Banzai Bills first appeared in Super Mario World—this was not corrected in later versions.
