The Skill parameter has been removed from Smasher infoboxes, and in its place are the new "Best historical ranking" and "Best tournament result" parameters. SmashWiki needs help adding these new parameters to Smasher infoboxes, refer to the guidelines here for what should be included in these new parameters. |
When adding results to Smasher pages, include each tournament's entrant number in addition to the player's placement, and use the {{Trn}} template with the matching game specified. Please also fix old results on Smasher pages that do not abide to this standard. Refer to our Smasher article guidelines to see how results tables should be formatted. |

Meta Knight is a playable veteran character in Super Smash Bros. 4, revealed on August 13th, 2014, being teased before hand on the 11th. Visually, Meta Knight now has gauntlets over his gloves and small battle damage details on his armor to make him less cartoonish, the opposite situation to most character visual changes. Additionally, the top corners of his mask opening are more pointed, with the sides curving inward instead of being straight. Eric Newsome reprises his role as the voice of Meta Knight, albeit using the same voice clips from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Changes from Brawl
Due to Meta Knight's dominance in Brawl, he received some significant nerfs in Smash 4. However, he was also given some improvements; as such, he is now more balanced in relation to other playable characters than he was in Brawl.
Neutral attack links into a finisher.
Up smash and dash attack are stronger.
Forward smash is stronger.
Back aerial is faster and is stronger.
Down throw has more follow-up ability.
It deals less damage.
Forward air now has a small hitbox that sends opponents straight down, allowing it to knock lighter opponents onto the ground to create highly damaging setups and combos and has higher knockback.
Drill Rush connects more reliably and is much stronger.
It has more startup lag.
It now cannot allow a small jump at the end unless the last attack connects with a solid object (such as an opponent, a wall or a floor).
Dimensional Cape is much stronger.
Mach Tornado has slightly less damage potential.
It also lasts for a slightly shorter amount of time.
However, it is now significantly more difficult to SDI out of.
Forward tilt combo, forward air, and down throw deal less damage.
Down smash has less knockback and is slower.
Up air is slower.
Meta Knight is larger, increasing his hurtbox.
Meta Knight's attacks have much less range in general.
New Shuttle Loop animation renders Meta Knight unable to glide out of it.
To compensate, Meta Knight now slashes the opponent twice whilst spinning in a large loop, which deals more damage than in Brawl, and hits airborne foes fast.
However, it has less KO potential.
Combined with the removal of gliding in Smash 4, Meta Knight's recovery is overall much shorter.
Meta Knight's jump is lower.
Meta Knight's roll animation has him wrapped in his cape, similar to his up taunt.
Special Moves
In Super Smash Bros. 4, special moves can be swapped out for different variants, but only a few of Meta Knight's have been seen. He retains all of his original special moves and his final smash.
Special Move | Basic | Custom 1 | Custom 2 |
---|---|---|---|

Side Special | Drill Rush | High-Speed Drill | Shieldbreaker Drill |
Up Special | Shuttle Loop | Blade Coaster | Lazy Shuttle Loop |

Trivia
- Meta Knight was the last veteran fighter revealed before the launch of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS in Japan. This is ironic, considering he was the first announced newcomer for Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
