Assistance
I have the greatest enthusiasm for this mission. My confidence in this wiki's ability to succeed is great. I do however have one trivial matter that I do hope I can get your assistance with. You seem a level-headed, intelligent person with much power in regards to this wiki. I have noticed that sound files, while talked about to great length in many articles, are not included in the wiki itself so far as I have seen. I can obtain a wide variety of MP3 files from many sources that can be used here if such a thing is allowed. I only wish to be useful, which thanks to the high quality and restless hard work of the many contributers here, is difficult. If I may offer my service in this manner, all I would need is a way to upload audio files onto the wiki. MtnDewholic (aka "Dewie") 16:48, 3 July 2011 (EDT)
- I don't really think you're allowed to add audio files,seeing as no one has. Forbidden7 17:38, 3 July 2011 (EDT)
- For the most part,that is. Forbidden7 17:38, 3 July 2011 (EDT)
I think having sounds and voice clips is okay; we don't have a rule against it in any case (at one point we had the noise of a ping uploaded which was never ported over when the move happened). Full music clips might be in a grey area in terms of being useful; there are a bunch of valid Youtube videos of such musics and the files would be pretty big.
In terms of actually uploading MP3 files - the wiki currently will only accept .ogg files, but I'm sure there's some option to enable MP3 uploads I'd have to find. You would use Special:Upload (even though it's titled "Upload image"). Toomai Glittershine The Eggster 18:09, 3 July 2011 (EDT)
- I was wondering about that. I raised the issue because I found a page that had a bunch of links to a plethora of youtube videos, which I saw as a great inconvenience when I have seen media playing bits on wikis (particularly Wikipedia). I was just wondering if such a thing were possible here. I can convert the media files into just about any format, though ".ogg" is nothing I have hear of before. MtnDewholic (aka "Dewie") 20:25, 3 July 2011 (EDT)
Same here.I've heard of wma and MIDI,but not ogg. Then again,maybe I have. Forbidden7 20:33, 3 July 2011 (EDT)
- That sounds like a paradox. I'll do a test upload with a sound file of, say, Meta Knight's Dreamland Theme Rock Remix in .ogg format. MtnDewholic (aka "Dewie") 20:37, 3 July 2011 (EDT)

I just got a new message today. I opened it, and replied, then refreshed all my pages so that they wouldn't have the message box. But Forum: Browser Poll still had the message box. - Nevermind, saw that you put Chrome on the Browser Poll *bro fist*. Anyway, you press Ctrl-Shift-Del, then you make sure that "clear cache" is the only box checked. Then select "since the beginning" as the time. Finally, hit "Clear web information". One downside with Chrome is the relatively complicated way of clearing the cache. IRC
Hi Toomai. Can you please come on to IRC soon? There are a few matters I would like to discuss with you privately. Mr. Anon (talk) 18:39, 1 August 2011 (EDT)
Users who just vote on the Smash Arena
Do you agree we should start giving blocks to users who ignored being asked to contribute to other areas of the Wiki other than the Smash Arena and their userpage? I noticed some users aren't getting the message, and I'm thinking of handing a two week block to the violators (thus preventing them from voting on a round of Smash Arena). Then, if they continue to not try contributing elsewhere and just keep only editing the Smash Arena/their userpage, give them subsequent blocks of increasing length. Omega Tyrant 18:28, 13 August 2011 (EDT)
- Blocking people for not doing anything outside Smash Arena I think is too much. Yes, it's not the focus of the wiki, but maybe the user in question is only interested in reading the wiki/using it as a resource, and in such cases you can't make them contribute.
- Those that only edit their userspace are a bit different though in my opinion, since unlike SA, it requires about as much effort as helping out the wiki would. In such cases I think protection of the user pages would be better than a block, so they could then edit constructively while still being punished. Toomai Glittershine The Frivolous 22:56, 13 August 2011 (EDT)
- That's sensible, but the way I was looking at it, I was seeing voting in the Smash Arena as a privilege to those who contribute, and as written in SW:NOT, users are not to just vote in the Smash Arena. As such, if no consequences are to be met with a user just voting in the Smash Arena, then what's the point of having it written in a policy that users are not to do that? If blocking is too much, perhaps we instead not allow them to vote in the Smash Arena until they start trying to make some sort effort to contribute?
Why not giving warning or simply talk to the user themself? make them realize first.>_>Lucas-IV- OH MY PORK! 03:22, 14 August 2011 (EDT)
- I have given warnings first, and will continue to do so. Some users however, just flat out ignore them. Omega Tyrant
- If there was a way to hide the Smash Arena from recent changes, would it matter then? Blocking is way too much but I feel that people should be allowed to edit only the Smash Arena if that is what they want. You can't force them to edit and the only way to stop them from only editing the Smash Arena with making it fair would be to remove the Smash Arena. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 03:36, 14 August 2011 (EDT)

Mainspace vs. ____space
Is it a violation for users to have extremely less mainspace edits than userspace edits in a conisiberably large amount of time? Pikmin Brawler Go Steve the Pikmin! 20:06, 22 August 2011 (EDT)
- Technically no, but it is rather discouraged to spend all your time in userspace, and extreme cases may cause said user's userspace to be locked until they contribute to the mainspace. Toomai Glittershine The Honcho 21:17, 22 August 2011 (EDT)
- Yeah, there isn't any hard rule about how much of your edits are userspace, but you are supposed to have a large amount of your edits going to productive mainspace. Mr. Anon (talk) 21:26, 22 August 2011 (EDT)
- I asked, because I saw the contributions for a particular user, and out of a time span of a few months, only had 4 mainspace edits, and other edits that included forum, smash arena, etc. Would this be considered an extreme case? Pikmin Brawler Go Steve the Pikmin! 21:36, 22 August 2011 (EDT)

- Some edit counts for mainspace vs other spaces shouldn't really count, they only count the actual edit being saved as 1, there is no count for the quality of the edit, someone could've revamped 4 pages totally in a new effective way and added tons of new information and only did multiple minor edits to userspace or user talk pages and the results would make it seem like they are an "ineffective user" whereas they might not be.--Shaun's Wiji Dodo talk 21:50, 22 August 2011 (EDT)

Generally, I hand out the protections when a user shows next to no effort at contributing to the Wiki outside their userspace and the Smash Arena. It is possible for a user to be productive to the Wiki and have a low mainspace edit count, whether it is through high quality edits like Dodo pointed out, or through contributions to other areas such as taking a constructive part in talk page discussions. With that said, StoneSteal has not done those, and as such, will be warned.
Also Mr. Anon, while Zeldasmash got blocked for excessive userspace editing, Doc King didn't get in trouble for userspace editing, but for being a disruptive user that frequently violated policies. Omega Tyrant 03:44, 23 August 2011 (EDT)
Eh, just in cases, you should probably know why lately I dont do much mainspace edits. It's because making mainspace edits will be more harder an complicated. I'm on a busy schol year and not allowed to use laptop, so i'm using my hand phone so it is harder to type some stuff >_>Lucas-IV- OH MY PORK! 06:19, 23 August 2011 (EDT)

The SmasherBeta
As you Americans are aware, the users of this wiki were all American until I joined, and now you have a Brit on this site. In the UK, we don't have states, instead, we have counties. This will mean that the smasherbeta will now require different versions. SmashPeter (talk) 09:14, 28 August 2011 (EDT)
