The map of The Final Battle, with all captured fighters. |
The Final Battle (最終決戦) is the final area in World of Light unlocked after defeating Dharkon in The Dark Realm. In this area, Galeem and Dharkon are fighting for full control, but are also seeking to destroy the fighters, creating a three-way battle that decides the fate of the universe.
The area and spirits are split into two parts, a Light side and a Dark side. Each spirit from one side matches one from the other side. Defeating more spirits from one side will grant the other side more power, causing one side to push into the other. Defeating enough of one side's spirits will create a path to that side's boss (e.g. defeating all Light spirits will create a path to Galeem), allowing the player to fight that boss. Defeating one of the bosses results in a bad ending where the opposite side seizes control.
When Master Hand and Crazy Hand are both freed and the number of spirits on each side is nearly equal or completely cleared, a path will be created in the top-center of the area leading to the hands. Interacting with the hands will lead to them creating a hole in the area. The player will then be able to temporarily play as Master Hand, where they are then pitted against 50 puppet fighters consisting of Mario, Link, Samus, Meta Knight, Snake, Sonic, Cloud, and King K. Rool. Clearing will result in the area "shattering" and revealing a golden backdrop, along with creating paths to Galeem, Dharkon, and a central path. At this point, defeating either light or dark spirits no longer causes a shift of power. The central path takes the player to the final stage where they ultimately fight Galeem and Dharkon at the same time. Defeating both results in the true ending in which the spirits are freed.

Bosses[edit]
There are no new bosses in the Final Battle. Rather, the area faces the player against Master Hand twice, Crazy Hand twice, Galeem, Dharkon, and both Galeem and Dharkon. The Galeem & Dharkon fight lets the player choose any three currently available fighters and pits them against the sub-world bosses before fighting them.

Captured Fighters[edit]
The final 4 captured fighters can be unlocked in The Final Battle. Unlike the previous two realms, The Final Battle does not have any sub-worlds. Palutena and Bayonetta will only appear after beating the first Crazy Hand fight and Master Hand fight respectively. The player must unlock all 4 to obtain the true ending. The list of fighters is organized roughly by order of appearance.

Trivia[edit]
- Masahiro Sakurai has claimed that Bayonetta and Palutena were the only two characters other than Kirby that could have feasibly survived Galeem's initial attack in the opening to World of Light.[1] Those two are also the final fighter unlocks required for the true ending the player encounters in a regular playthrough of the mode.
