Riptide 2024 is an ongoing Super Smash Bros. Melee major and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate supermajor held in Sandusky, Ohio from September 6th-8th, 2024.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

After repeatedly struggling to host a major in the post-online era, including the previous two Riptide events falling short in terms of talent, the Midwest finally hosted their first Ultimate major since The Big House 10 in 2022 and their first Ultimate supermajor since the first Riptide in 2021. The tournament featured eight of the previous season's top 10, with only acola and TamaPDaifuku not present, and with over 1,000 entrants and a x2 multiplier present, this tournament was able to reach P-tier on the LumiRank 2024.2, making Riptide 2024 one of the largest Ultimate events in the Midwest and the largest post-quarantine Midwest Ultimate event.

Unlike most supermajors of its caliber, the number of major upsets on top 64 seeds at Riptide was rather low, with only three upsets above an upset factor of 5 on the first day of singles. One of these upsets was on #2 seed Miya, who was upset by #15 seed Syrup 3-1 (upset factor 6), an upset that surprised many players as many players considered Miya to be one of the best players against Steve due to his frequent matches against acola. The other two upsets were also upset factor 6: #4 seed Hurt lost 2-3 to #29 seed Candle while #16 seed Peabnut lost 1-3 to #113 seed Rob.. Despite being upset, all three players entered top 24 on the loser's side.

Top 24 saw Miya lose to #13 seed Light 0-3 for 13th (upset factor 5), continuing his streak of underperformances at North American events. In addition, Snow took out Hurt at 17th but lost his runback to Sonix to place 9th, while Asimo fell to Sparg0 0-3 and Riddles 2-3 for 9th, leaving Shuton as the only Japanese player in top 8, having upset Sonix (upset factor 5) to enter on the winner's side. Outside of Japan, #20 seed BeastModePaul upset #5 seed SHADIC 1-3 (upset factor 4) and #15 Syrup easily defeated Tweek 0-3; SHADIC was able to enter top 8 after defeating Light, however Tweek fell to his bracket demon Zomba for 9th. Ultimately, four of the top 8 seeds were able to make it into the top 8.
