{{technical data}}

Meta Knight does a quick slash beneath him, similar to his up aerial. It has the quickest start-up for a down aerial, and has little endlag as well. The very beginning of the arc is a semi-spike, like in ''Brawl.'' However, the rest of the hitboxes have a slightly higher trajectory, though it still puts opponents in a dangerous position. Though it may not be as deadly as previously, Meta Knight's increased air and fall speeds could potentially allow him to perform a wall of pain with this move. Additionally, the move's higher launch angle means it can combo into a forward aerial. Down aerial's speed and decent range, combined with Meta Knight's jumps, give him a useful tool to pressure grounded opponents. Lastly, at higher percents, its low trajectory can start tech-chases, potentially leading into one of his KO moves.

Hitbox visualization showing Meta Knight's down aerial.

Overview[edit]

Meta Knight does a quick slash beneath him. This move is similar to his up aerial in both appearance and function. It has the least startup of any down aerial, as well as decent range. The sweetspot of the slash is also a semi-spike, making it deadly offstage, and is relatively easy to land, as it takes priority over the sourspot, providing Meta Knight with a very quick and effective edge-guarding tool.

The move's speed makes it an effective out of shield option, and it grants Meta Knight a useful combo-breaker and great defense against juggles. It can be used to pressure grounded opponents and cover Meta Knight's aerial approach. However, it is unsafe to use close to the ground, as it has high landing lag, the highest of all his aerials.
