While non-damaging, the Gust Bellows applies enough [[knockback]] to force opponents out of range and offstage within seconds, and since it doesn't cause [[flinch]]ing it can then keep them offstage without hope of recovering, similarly to Mario's [[F.L.U.D.D.]]. As a result, it is ironically an extremely powerful item, being capable of guaranteeing multiple KOs from 0% damage with minimal risk to the user. It is often quoted by players as being [[broken]] due to its ease of use and difficulty escaping from the wind's push. However, certain characters that possess momentum canceling special moves (e.g. Villager's Lloid Rocket, Donkey Kong's Spinning Kong) can completely ignore the windboxes and subsequent knockback from the Gust Bellows whether grounded or offstage. Alternatively, characters such as Sonic can simply outrun the gust.

The Gust Bellows (まほうのツボ, Magic Jar) is an item from the Legend of Zelda series.

In Super Smash Bros. 4

The Gust Bellows is a shooting item that fires a constant stream of non-damaging wind that pushes opponents. As with other shooting items, it has a limited supply of ammo, and once it is depleted it can only be thrown. Throwing a Gust Bellows if it has ammo remaining causes it to bounce around the stage, firing bursts with random direction and timing that affect all players but the thrower.

While non-damaging, the Gust Bellows applies enough knockback to force opponents out of range and offstage within seconds, and since it doesn't cause flinching it can then keep them offstage without hope of recovering, similarly to Mario's F.L.U.D.D.. As a result, it is ironically an extremely powerful item, being capable of guaranteeing multiple KOs from 0% damage with minimal risk to the user. It is often quoted by players as being broken due to its ease of use and difficulty escaping from the wind's push. However, certain characters that possess momentum canceling special moves (e.g. Villager's Lloid Rocket, Donkey Kong's Spinning Kong) can completely ignore the windboxes and subsequent knockback from the Gust Bellows whether grounded or offstage. Alternatively, characters such as Sonic can simply outrun the gust, while shielding or rolling will reduce the push effect received from the item.

The Gust Bellows are a highly useful item in Multi-Man Smash due to the Fighting Mii Team taking significantly increased knockback from all sources. A single gust is capable of pushing multiple Miis offstage, easily KOing them due to their lack of recovery moves and inability to grab ledges.

Trophy information

The Gust Bellows trophy appears in both versions. In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U it is part of the Skyward Sword Trophy Box.

Trophy in for 3DS.
Trophy in for Wii U.
Gust Bellows
North America Unleash gale-force winds upon your foes to blow them far away. Unfortunately, it's just air, so it won't do any damage except maybe mess up their hair. Dropping or throwing it will cause it to spin around, blowing air everywhere. Don't blow yourself outta the fight!
Europe Point this at an opponent and unleash a strong blast of wind at them. It won't do any damage - it's just wind - but it'll give them a pretty big push. If someone knocks it out of your hands, though, it'll roll around, blowing wind every which way, so be careful or you might get blown away yourself!

Origin

The Gust Bellows originated from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword as an item found in the Lanayru Mining Facility. Link can use this item to create large gusts of wind to blow away various objects, including piles of sand, dust, household items, and even small enemies. It is also capable of activating propeller-shaped switches and mechanisms.
