Kagaribi 15 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate supermajor held in Mihami, Chiba, Kantō from May 3rd-5th, 2026, and the second and larger of two major events of Japan's 2026 Golden Week. At 2,814 entrants, it is the second-largest Smash tournament of all time.
Tournament summary[edit]
The event was held at the location of EVO Japan 2020 and featured an entrants cap of 3,072. Ultimately, 2,814 players registered for the event, including 8 of the top 10 on the UltRank 2025 (barring Sonix and Syrup, the former of which initially signed up but dropped out, choosing to attend CCEC 2026 Finals instead), 16 of the top 20 (barring Light and Peabnut), and 38 of the top 50. As such, barring any additional DQs, Kagaribi 15 will become the the second superpremier since the category's inception, though despite having a higher entrants count, the event features fewer top players than Kagaribi 13, and therefore has a much smaller score. It is both the second-largest Ultimate tournament and the second-largest tournament of any Smash game of all time, surpassing both milestones' previous record-holder, Super Smash Con 2019, by over 100 entrants.
Likely due to his recent losses to other Steve players, acola chose to play the entire Top 8 with only Steve to "prove" himself as the best Steve player in the world.[1] He was ultimately successful, allowing him to win his second superpremier event. acola's run saw him cruise into top 8, losing only a single game against Miko in a game where he used Mr. Game & Watch. He then won the runback against Zomba 2-3, avenging his last 2 losses against Zomba in North American soil that season. Entering his Winners Finals set against Sparg0, acola shocked audiences by not only remaining Steve, but also solidly defeating Sparg0 3-0, including winning with 2 entire stocks in 2 different games; this marked only the third time Sparg0 had lost to a Steve player, and made acola the only Steve player to defeat Sparg0 more than once. In Grand Finals, his choice to remain Steve costed him the first set, as Doramigi defeated him 1-3. Though Doramigi was posed to win the reset after going up 2-0, acola was able to win the final 3 games, the last game going to last stocks; this marked the first time acola's Steve had defeated Doramigi since Grand Finals at Maesuma'TOP 1 a year prior. acola's victory at the event also made him surpass MkLeo's number of total major and supermajor victories, while also making him 1 supermajor win away from tying MkLeo in that department. Alongside acola's victory at 2 of the largest Ultimate events of all time and him being in a prime position to be ranked #1 in the first half of 2026, there was some discussion as to whether acola had surpassed MkLeo as the greatest Ultimate player of all time.
Several players who had underperformed at recent events saw a rebound at this event. This was especially the case with Sparg0, who entered Top 8 on the Winner's side while only dropping a single game to MkLeo. He then defeated Doramigi 2-3 to enter Winners Finals, but fell to acola before being reverse 3-0'd by Doramigi in Losers Finals. Nevertheless, his 3rd-place finish, alongside a win over a player in contention for #1 at the time, led many to consider this event as a return to form. In addition, after underperforming his last 2 major events, MkLeo also had a strong run at the event, which includes his first-ever ranked set against Miya, whom he defeated 3-2, and 2 game 5 sets in Top 8, against Shuton and Zomba. He ultimately fell to Doramigi in a last hit, game 5 situation to finish 4th. Thus, every player who was ranked #1 on the UltRank placed in the top 4 at this event. Outside of top 8, Glutonny notably faced a gauntlet of Steve players — Toon, acola, crêpe salée, and Harupoyo — and his reaction towards the gauntlet went viral online.[2] Nevertheless, he went through this gauntlet defeating Toon 3-2, crêpe salée 3-0, and Harupoyo 3-1, though he lost to acola 0-3. He ultimately finished 9th after falling to his bracket demon, Shuton. Finally, Kola won on a 7-set Losers run, where he eliminated Taikei, Nyonoknb, Zackray, and Asimo to finish 13th.
Finally, this event was also the major breakout event for Yuzha, following his B tier victory at TO WIN 8 the week prior. He defeated Raru 3-1 and Snow 3-2 to make it to the final day of bracket. Similarly, Meido also had the best performance of his career up to that point, as he upset 33Peranbox, Raki, Rimu, and Tea. Both players outplaced their seed by an SPR of 5 to finish 17th. Saya also improved on his performance from Kagaribi 13 by reaching the final day, beating Yoshidora and KEN, but lost to Yaura in a game 5 set, completing a +3 SPR run to finish 17th.
