SHADIC is a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Corrin player from Texas, considered the greatest Corrin player of all time, as well as one of the best Ultimate players in the world in the first half of 2024. He is the only solo Corrin player to win a major, and was one of Ultimate's biggest rising stars towards the end of 2023 alongside Hurt. He is also one of the youngest Ultimate players to win their first major, alongside Doramigi, acola, Sparg0, and Onin. He was ranked 7th on the LumiRank 2024.1, tying with Cosmos on the PGR v5 as the highest-ranked solo-Corrin player in Smash history.

On February 6th, 2022, SHADIC was signed by Apple Esports.[1] On April 28th, 2022, SHADIC announced himself as a free agent.[2] On January 1st, 2023, SHADIC was signed by PVE Esports.[3]

Tournament history[edit]

Early competitive play[edit]

SHADIC's tournament career began very late into Smash 4's competitive lifespan and primarily took place online, where he played Corrin. His sole offline appearance was Bustered OuT, where he went 0-2. When Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was released, SHADIC continued to play Corrin, despite the character's nerfs during the transition from Smash 4. He achieved some success in the early metagame, such as placing 13th at Sin City and defeating NWA Danbi at Low Tier City 7, and was also recognized by players in Texas for his skills at a young age and playing what many considered an unviable character. However, he remained an obscure player outside of his region.

It wasn't until the online metagame began during the COVID-19 pandemic when SHADIC finally received some more recognition. Though never ranked on any iteration of the Wi-Fi Warrior Rank, SHADIC had several respectable tournament runs such as placing 13th at the S-tier event Lockhart Series and 17th at the S-tier event Super Smash Galaxy, while claiming wins over some of the online metagame's best players such as Maister and Lui$. Helping SHADIC were the buffs Corrin received in update 8.0.0 that improved the character's damage output and KO power, and SHADIC's best tournament results in the online metagame took place after the patch was implemented. As such, as Corrin's representation improved so did SHADIC's recognition in the community.

Corrin's first successful player[edit]

When offline play returned, SHADIC almost immediately showed how much he had improved in the online metagame by placing top 8 at many offline Texas events, including winning Ultimate ARFI and Heartbeat II where he double-eliminated MuteAce at the former event and Grayson at the latter event. These strong performances eventually led him to rank among Texas's best players on the Quarter 4 2021 power ranking, ranking 3rd behind MuteAce and Lima. Since then, he has remained amongst the top 3 in Texas. In spite of these strong regional performances, SHADIC's performance at majors were a bit less successful, as he did not place higher than 49th at any of them, though he was able to defeat Scend at Riptide. As such, he was not ranked on the OrionRank Ultimate: Eclipse, though he was recognized on the North American regional ranking, where he ranked 81st. Nevertheless, these performances marked some of the first notable Corrin results in competitive play, and as such many players began recognizing SHADIC as the best Corrin player in the world.

It wouldn't be until 2022 where SHADIC was finally able to breakout on the global scene. His first major of the year was at Collision 2022, where he placed 17th after making a notable upset over 4th seed Cosmos, who just a few weeks prior won the major Glitch - Infinite. He followed it up by placing 9th at Low Tide City 2022, the closest he came to making top 8 at a major at that time, before placing 17th at MomoCon 2022, once again defeating Cosmos. Alongside continued strong results in Texas, these performances were enough for SHADIC to debut on the global rankings for the first time in his career, and he was ranked 46th on the OrionRank Mid-Year 2022. His performances with Corrin was enough to convince many players that the character was not as weak as initially perceived, leading many to reassess Corrin on the following tier list.

Unfortunately, SHADIC's second half of the year was weaker, though he was able to have some notable performances, including his run to to 13th at Rise 'N Grind and his run to 7th at The Big House 10, his first major top 8 of his career and the first solo-Corrin top 8 at a major. As such, he was only ranked 68th on the full-year ranking and 63rd on the UltRank 2022. This mixed streak bled into the first half of the LumiRank 2023 season: although SHADIC had some strong performances at the start, defeating Onin at Let's Make Big Moves 2023 and placing 17th at both the aforementioned event and GENESIS 9, he did not have any other notable results for the rest of the half-year season, and in fact had some poor results such as 129th at Battle of BC 5 that greatly hindered his half-year season. Thus, SHADIC fell to the 121st-150th tier for the half-year ranking, with his title of "best Corrin player" taken by Neo, who was ranked nearly 100 spots above SHADIC.

2023's rising star[edit]

The second half of the LumiRank 2023 season marked a sudden shift in SHADIC's tournament performances as his results began improving tremendously. This began with a solid run to 9th at Super Smash Con 2023, where he also notably defeated Neo 5-0 in a special exhibition match, before he placed 7th at Rise 'N Grind 2023, his first top 8 since a year prior. He followed it up with by far the best performance of his season. At Luminosity Makes Moves Miami 2023, after falling to Sparg0 in Winners Round 2, SHADIC tore through the Losers bracket, eliminating MkLeo 3-1, Riddles 3-1, Zomba 3-1, and Kola 3-0, before falling to Dabuz to 4th. It was, at that point, the best solo-Corrin performance at a major, and helped catapult SHADIC into one of the game's biggest rising stars in the latter half of the year. Though his final major was lukewarm, placing 25th at Port Priority 8, his improving major performances and strong B+ tier results, including winning Santa Paws 1 and placing 5th at The Big House 11, was enough to make up for his weak first half of the year, and he was eventually ranked 44th on the full year; though behind Neo by 14 spots, many players still considered SHADIC to be the best Corrin player in the world because of his performances in the latter half of the year, and the success of both players was responsible for Corrin rising 15 spots on the second tier list.

Rise to the top 10[edit]

SHADIC's results only continued to improve in the LumiRank 2024.1 season as he was able to surpass his performances from the previous year by placing no lower than 13th at any major. His placements especially reached a new heights in March and April, which included his first major win at Cirque Du CFL 3 followed by winning the A-tier invitational The Luminosity Invitational, making him the only solo-Corrin player to ever win a major. He was able to come really close to winning the two other majors he attended that month, placing 3rd at the Cirque pre-major invitational Litvitational 2 and 2nd at Collision 2024. Finally, this season saw him defeat all of the Four Horsemen aside from acola, as he defeated Miya at Cirque; Sparg0 at Smash Factor X, where he infamously performed a 3-stock comeback in game 4; and Sonix at The Luminosity Invitational, though at the end of the season his record against Sparg0 and Sonix were negative. These performances led many to consider SHADIC as a shoe-in for the top 10, even in spite of some weaker performances at Low Tide City 2024 and Get On My Level X. This was proven the case when SHADIC was ranked 7th on the LumiRank 2024.1, becoming the first solo-Corrin player to rank in the top 10 on a global ranking.

Stagnation[edit]

Unfortunately, the LumiRank 2024.2 season became a stagnant period for SHADIC as players began adapting to Corrin's playstyle and SHADIC began focusing more on his personal life. Although he still placed no lower than 13th and had several top 8 placements at majors, this season saw SHADIC's worst performance since his rising star days, which included going 1-3 at Luminosity Invitational 2: Back to School and 0-5 at The Throne II, notably losing to Marss in the former and both ChunkyKong and drybie in the latter. Even his best performances had some caveats. For example, despite placing 3rd at Supernova 2024, his only top 10 win was Raru; this win, as well as his win over Light at Riptide 2024, were the only two top 10 wins he had during the season, and even then Light was eventually able to even up the record, leaving Raru as SHADIC's sole positive top 10 record. As such, SHADIC slipped nine spots, ranking 16th on the LumiRank 2024.2.
