Duck Hunt (ダックハント, Duckhunt) is a stage that appears in Super Smash Bros. 4, based directly on the NES game Duck Hunt. It was unlockable in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U at launch, and was added to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS in a free update on September 30th, 2015.
In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Duck Hunt is fought here in its unlocking battle.
Stage layout
The main body of the stage is a large dirt platform covered by grass, whose sides, outside the boundaries of the "screen", can be wall-jumped on. The bush on the right and the foliage of the tree on the left act as soft platforms.
Occasionally, a patch of grass may pop up in front of the main field of grass, which hides characters and items behind it due to the stage's 2D effect.
Ducks may appear in the background, which can be hit, and added up to the score shown below. The ducks will sometimes drop items. The 8-bit dog will then appear to collect the fallen ducks or laugh (depending on if any ducks get hit or not) and act as a temporary platform. After 10 ducks either get knocked down or fly away, if the quota is met, the next round will begin. If all 10 ducks are knocked down a 'Perfect' sign will be displayed in the centre of the stage just as in the original Duck Hunt. The fighters can clear up to the 10th round before the score resets to zero and they have to "play" again since round 1. In 8-Player Smash, no ducks or dog appear at all.
During each round on this stage there are both sets of one duck and two ducks, combining both game A and game B of the original Duck Hunt.
Ω Form
Origin
The stage is based on the original Duck Hunt game, even retaining the HUD.
Trivia
- Alongside Duck Hunt's trailer for Super Smash Bros. 4, it was also revealed that Duck Hunt would be available for purchase on the Wii U's Virtual Console. When zoomed completely out on this stage or in a special smash with the camera set to the fixed position, the dark shaded areas on each side of the screen replicate what Duck Hunt looks like on the Wii U's Virtual Console.
- Although the fighters are 2D, the ground, tree, bush and moving grass sections have raised 3D parts.
- While the score counter stays in place in the Wii U version, it moves with the camera in the 3DS version.
- Star KOs and screen KOs occurs in the 3DS version, but not in the Wii U version. This is also shared with the 3DS version of Super Mario Maker.
