From SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in an competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, or the stage considered more "fair", or the combatant with the most fans - just vote if you are a total fanboy of the participant. So what are you waiting for? Get voting! Remember, you don't have to have an account to vote! Though new requests for fights can no longer be made, voting on already existing requests can be done here.
The Rules
- When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature.
- You can vote only once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
- Put a
#
before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
- Type
~~~~
after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
- There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to do so; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
- Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
- You may change or remove your vote at any time. To do this you must remove your old vote in its entirety; this is an exception to the "never remove comments" rule.
- You may vote only in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
- Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it). Extra spacing results in the list numbers becoming disjointed.
- While previewing an edit of a single section, you will see loose formatting marks (such as a trailing
|}
). Do not alter or delete them; they are important to the page's construction and take effect only when the entire round is viewed.
- If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.
- Any comments about the fight should be left in the comments section. The following kinds of comments are not allowed:
- Comments relating to how close or one-sided a matchup is.
- Comments about other users' opinions. You can point out that a user may have gotten a fact wrong, but you can't say things such as "That's not a good reason" or "But the other guy is better because X". Users can vote for any reason they want; trying to argue with someone's opinion generally has no positive outcome, in addition to simply inflating the comments section of an already rather long page.
If your vote is not added correctly - specifically, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have a short amount of time to fix it (typically between fifteen minutes to an hour). After this time, it may be corrected and moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero at an operator's discretion.
Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half. If you put your vote in the half-votes section without stating reasons why you want it there, it is worth zero and may be deleted by any user. You may replace it later should you do it correctly.
Above all, remember that voting in the Smash Arena is a privilege, not a right. In the vein of what SmashWiki is not, you are expected to at least attempt reasonable contributions to the wiki if you wish to retain your privilege to participate.
- That's right. This is how I play Brawl. Come at me. --Havoc48 >:D!!! 11:02, 24 November 2012 (EST)
- Whoa, I suggested this! Anyway, I'm voting for this because the Nunchuk is the best controller scheme, despite what the Melee fans might tell you. Air Conditioner I FEEL FANTASTIC 14:07, 24 November 2012 (EST)
- I use this control scheme. Mr. Anontalk 18:14, 24 November 2012 (EST)
- Please. I use this with my computer, and it is quite fun, especially with when browsing the web, emulation and playing PC games. Fugudev 15:17, 24 November 2012 (EST)
Votes for GameCube Controller
- Can be used in all three games thanks to the Virtual Console. Toadat9021doh (talk) 10:58, 24 November 2012 (EST)
- .This is the one controller that I remember holding a lot, since I used to love playing my GameCube (and still do), and I still love using it on my Wii. --Airconny (talk) 11:03, 24 November 2012 (EST)
- Dots The Thanksgiving 11:04, 24 November 2012 (EST)
- The sole reason I am not going to perform a Wii to Wii U system transfer. I can't leave this controller behind. Wii Remote and Wii Remote + Nunchuck's difficulty with smash attacks are problematic, and the Classic Controller, while decent, has a few flaws, such as the control sticks being too tall for the comfort of my thumbs. Perhaps when somebody makes an unofficial GameCube controller/port for Wii U, I will (I have faith this will happen). I already reckon I'll be using the Wii U GamePad for SSB4, however. Toast ltimatum 11:24, 24 November 2012 (EST)
- Mine broke, I stink at Smash Bros. now.The Cheese 12:48, 24 November 2012 (EST)
- No contest. ShupaRoeh 13:36, 24 November 2012 (EST)
- Do I even need to say why this one's the best? Also, how come my buddy Supersmash4 isn't allowed to vote in these anymore? Nintendosega75 (talk) 14:02, 24 November 2012 (EST)
- I don't know how I was ever able to use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk back when I first got this game. I always use the Gamecube Controller. ChuckNorris 14:06, 24 November 2012 (EST)
- I will never part with this controller. The GameCube was my first system (MK:DD being my first game), and I am still inseparable from this controller and many GameCube games. Plus, I can play all 3 Smash games with it! DarkFox01: Gobblegobblegobble 16:21, 24 November 2012 (EST)
- I feel comfortable with the GCN controller; the Nunchuk and Wiimote to play Brawl will only cause me pain. 67.166.229.4 19:49, 24 November 2012 (EST)
- I was always comfortable using this controller, and I'm the best with this out of all of the 4 ways to play Brawl. Too bad the same can't be said for the Wii U. :( Smash Master 20:21, 24 November 2012 (EST)
- Most optimal design for tech skill and probably the only viable controller in competitive play, except perhaps the wii-mote + nunchuk. Then again only 2 professionals use wiimote and nunchuk (UltimateRazer and Tearbear).--BrianDon't try me! 23:23, 24 November 2012 (EST)
- Wiimote alone is just terrible and should have never been an option; Wiichuck takes significant getting used to; CC lacks durability and requires you to lug the Wiimote along with it; GCN has the optimal design without any of the hassle, and can last you years. Omega Tyrant 01:52, 25 November 2012 (EST)
- Sooooooo much better. Shanderu 18:10, 25 November 2012 (EST)
@Fugudev: I use my GameCube controller on my laptop too, it's indispensable for my LP'ing, when you consider how loud the keyboard would be when the microphone is inside the laptop, and I can also imagine that when I eventually get around to playing Super Smash Flash 2 with this controller, it'll be ever so much more useful than the keys. I can't say I've ever heard of a port that lets you plug a Classic Controller into a computer, only Nintendo controllers at and predating GameCube, and those of the other consoles. Toast ltimatum 18:00, 24 November 2012 (EST)
@Omega Tyrant: The standalone Wii remote was an option because I wanted to include all four controller schemes, and if I left out any one, people who use said controller would whine about it. Air Conditioner likes pie 12:56, 25 November 2012 (EST)
- I believe OT means the Wii Remote being a control scheme in the game altogether. I'm fine with it, some casuals want to be authentic, it just so happens the control scheme is poor. Toast ltimatum 12:59, 25 November 2012 (EST)
- I would vote for Shadow, but Sonic actually has been having some decent games lately. Also, Shadow seems very uninspired. --Havoc48 >:D!!! 12:16, 17 November 2012 (EST)
- Despite his games being sluggish and that his attacks don't have much knockback, Sonic would always be cool to me since 1991. Dots The Thanksgiving 12:18, 17 November 2012 (EST)
- Have always preferred Sonic to Shadow. 110.174.90.69 18:12, 20 November 2012 (EST)
- Kids, there's nothing more cool than being hugged by someone you like. But if someone tries to touch you in a place or in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable, that's no good. It's your body; no one has the right to touch you if you don't want them to! So what do you do? First, you say 'No!' Then, you get outta there! Most important, you gotta tell someone you trust, like your parents, your teacher, a police officer. Blue Ninjakoopa(Talk) 23:11, 20 November 2012 (EST)
- This shall be a pity vote. I'm not much of a Sonic player due to his rock-bottom move set and KO potential in relation to every other character, but at the same time, Shadow does nothing to damage anyone, let alone KO. 67.166.229.4 20:43, 21 November 2012 (EST)
Votes for Shadow
- He has a gun! Terrible is Thanksgiving 10:27, 17 November 2012 (EST)
