The Ray Mk III (レイMkIII, Ray Mk III) is a Robo from the Custom Robo series.

OriginEdit

The Ray Mk III is a Robo in the 'Ray' series that hails from the Custom Robo series. It is a well balanced 'Power Model' from the Shining Fighter line. It first appears in Custom Robo Arena for the Nintendo DS. In Custom Robo Arena, the main character switched his Ray Mk II, which was the main Robo used by the protagonist in Custom Robo V2, to a new model made by his sister and father.

In Super Smash Bros. BrawlEdit

As an Assist TrophyEdit

In Brawl, this small yet hardy fighter leaps upward before firing a volley of lasers from its hand-held blaster or occasionally an explosive charge with its bomb launcher and hovers in place while firing before dashing horizontally around the arena a few times per jump, akin to the series. It is an unlockable Assist Trophy and becomes available after playing 100 brawls.

TrophyEdit

The trophy lists Ray Mk III as appearing in Custom Robo: Arena; however, the game doesn't use a colon in it, instead being Custom Robo Arena.

The main character switches from his beloved Ray Mk II to this model after his sister and father develop it. This one has a great balance between built-in abilities and ease and depth of available customization.

Ray Mk III serves as the basis for the Ray Mk III Helmet and Ray Mk III Outfit for Mii Gunner.

SpiritEdit

Ray Mk III appears as two primary spirits, including its downgraded version, Ray Mk II. Ray Mk III can be obtained by enhancing the Ray Mk II spirit at level 99.

In Adventure Mode: World of Light, Ray Mk II is presumably one of the countless spirits captured by Galeem during his takeover of the universe. Ray Mk II's spirit is located in a Treasure Chest at the military base of The Light Realm.

Ray Mk II's Spirit Battle uses a Mii Gunner puppet fighter wearing the Ray Mk III Helmet and Outfit and is fought on the Pokémon Stadium 2 stage. During the battle, the Mii Gunner starts off with a Rocket Belt, referencing Ray Mk II's jetpack while the Mii Gunner favors special moves, referencing Ray Mk II's custom moveset in Custom Robo V2.

TriviaEdit

  • With its debut in October 2006, Ray Mk III is the newest Assist Trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
    • However, Brawl is also the only game that has it as an Assist Trophy.
  • It is very likely, due to the trophy description and design of the trophy, that this is the exact same model from the Nintendo DS game Custom Robo Arena, as the player is referred to as the "main" character, and has a father and sister who created the Mk series.
  • While in most official artwork the Ray Mk III is shown equipped with the Straight Bomb G (the yellow part on its left arm), in Brawl it is shown with the Straight Bomb T (the red model).
  • Although the Assist Trophy is shown equipped with the Flare Gun, Straight Bomb T, Twin Flank Pod G and Formula Legs, its attacks and movement are actually most similar to if it were using the Gatling Gun, Crescent Bomb K and either High Jump or Plus One Legs. The design of the laser blasts appear similar to the ones fired from the Basic Gun.
