The Back Shield (バックシールド, Bakkushīrudo) is a unique item introduced in Super Smash Bros. 4. As the name would suggest, the item protects the fighter's rear from harm. It is unknown how long the shield remains active, and what extent of abuse it can take.

Origin

The Back Shield originated as an item in Kid Icarus: Uprising. It was used to protect Pit from enemy attack from behind and it rotated with Pit to always be behind him. In Super Smash Bros. 4, this is true; however, not much is known in how much it protects the player.
