Viridi (ナチュレ, Nature) is a character from the Kid Icarus series.

Origin

Viridi's first appearance in Kid Icarus Uprising.

Introduced in Kid Icarus: Uprising, Viridi is the Goddess of Nature. She is known for having a strong hatred for all humans, due to the actions of some harming the forests and wildlife of the planet, as well as for the Underworld Army, due to their complete disregard for life. When introduced, she is an antagonist who commands the "Forces of Nature", her army of troops made up of organic materials. Her goal is to eradicate humans for damaging the ecosystem, and does so by using Reset Bombs that cause mass destruction before overgrowing the area of impact. After Pit escapes his seal from the Chaos Kin, Viridi gives Pit the Power of Flight in the same way Palutena does and assists him in his mission of freeing Palutena from the Chaos Kin's mind control.

As a background character

Viridi's appearance in the background of Reset Bomb Forest.

The Reset Bomb Forest stage in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS depicts a battle between human nations from Kid Icarus: Uprising. After a minute has elapsed, Viridi appears in the background, far away from the stage, yells "Good riddance, human scum! The world is better off without you!" and drops a Reset Bomb, triggering the stage's transformation into an overgrown ruin. Upon reverting back to its original form, she will yell "Go! Stubborn vermin!" Both of these clips are recycled from Kid Icarus: Uprising.

In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Viridi appears alongside Palutena in several of Pit's Smash Taunt to remark on other fighters. These conversations reuse her various portraits from Kid Icarus Uprising. Viridi also makes a brief voiced cameo in Palutena's reveal trailer, commenting on how "angels only talk big".

A paid downloadable content costume for Mii Swordfighters based on Viridi was made available on September 30th, 2015. Nintendo also released a QR code for those who wish to have the exact Mii used in the costume's advertising.

Trophy

Viridi's trophy is exclusive to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

Viridi, Goddess of Nature Ntsc / Viridi Pal
Ntsc The goddess of nature, she believes it is her duty to return heaven and earth to their pure states, and so she labels humans as contaminants of nature that should be eliminated. She butts heads with human-protecting Palutena but hates soul-stealing Hades even more.
Pal The Goddess of Nature - of the earth and all living things. Viridi strongly believes in natural balance, and as far as she's concerned, humans throw that balance off entirely. She hates mankind for that, and Palutena for protecting them, but at the same time, she's not exactly keen on the Underworld Army's soul harvesting, either.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

As a background character

Viridi reprises her role in the Reset Bomb Forest stage and in Palutena's Guidance conversations.

As a costume

Both the Viridi Wig and the Viridi Outfit reappear in Ultimate.

Spirit

Viridi is a Legend-status spirit that grants the skill Metal Killer, which grants more attack against opponents with the metal status. In the overworld of World of Light, Viridi is one of the spirits that can be used for Rain Conjuring, needed to reach Olimar stranded in a mushroom and make a beanstalk that grants access to a sky area grow.

Trivia

Viridi's beta appearance.
  • Early builds of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS featured Viridi with roses on her headband when she appeared in the background of the Reset Bomb Forest stage. The portrait in the final game, however, lacks these roses.
  • Viridi is the only Kid Icarus character to have her voice actor changed from SSB4 to Ultimate.
  • When editing a Mii Swordfighter with the Viridi costume, the staff appears to be much larger and longer; however, it reverts to normal size in a match.
  • In Ultimate, Viridi's Spirit battle features a Mii Swordfighter in her Mii costume; the voice given to the Mii is the set of clips done by Makiko Ōmoto, the Japanese voice of Viridi.
    • Additionally, the battle features Kirby, who is also voiced by Makiko Ōmoto, representing Cragalanche.
  • Two of Viridi's lines from SSB4's Palutena's Guidance had been negated in Ultimate: she states Chrom would be a "carbon copy" of Ike in the conversation regarding Robin, but Chrom is Roy's Echo Fighter with a unique up special Soaring Slash (which, however, still resembles Ike's Aether) and Final Smash Awakening Aether in Ultimate. Additonally, the Lightning Chariot is mentioned to have been confiscated by Forces of Nature during the conversation regarding Dark Pit, yet it makes an appearance as Pit's Final Smash in Ultimate. While Robin has a new conversation in Ultimate to accommodate for Chrom's playable appearance, Dark Pit retains the conversation from SSB4 without any alterations.
