Shovel Knight (ショべルナイト, Shovel Knight) is the protagonist of Yacht Club Games' indie title, Shovel Knight.
Character description
Shovel Knight's early days as a knight mostly consisted of him and Shield Knight going on adventures together, and the two seemed to live a happy life. However, that all changed when the two adventured into the Tower of Fate, and a cursed amulet brought forth a terrible magic, knocking Shovel Knight out. When he awoke, the tower was sealed, and Shield Knight had disappeared. This would cause Shovel Knight to go into a deep depression and go into a life of solitude, which, in turn, would cause The Enchantress and The Order of no Quarter to rise. Realizing his job, Shovel Knight would leave his life of solitude and save Shield Knight from the curse.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Shovel Knight appears as an Assist Trophy. He digs the ground using his shovel, sometimes pulling up items, and can also dig opponents or fling dirt at them. He also uses his Shovel Drop ability to hop on opponents.

Trivia
- Shovel Knight is the second non-playable character to originate from an independent developer, the first being Commander Video.
- Shovel Knight is the second character from a 3rd-party series to be an Assist Trophy without a character from the same universe, the first being Bomberman.
- The image of Shovel Knight digging up a chicken is a reference to his own game. He can dig up dirt piles to sometimes find gems and food. Also, eating a chicken completely restores Shovel Knight's health.
