Article on Fire Emblem Wiki Avatar (Awakening)

Robin (ルフレ, Reflet) is the avatar character from Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Character description

The idea of having an avatar for the player was first explored in Fire Emblem (game) on the Gameboy Advance. This game introduced Tactician (Blazing Sword). Unlike Robin, Mark cannot be used in battle, and has little impact on the plot.

The concept of an avatar character for the player appeared again in Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem, Heroes of Light and Shadow on the Nintendo DS, after a four game gap. Unlike Mark before him, this avatar, Avatar (New Mystery of the Emblem), is able to be used as a unit on the battlefield, and has an appearance that can be customized by the player.

Robin appears as the customizable avatar character in Fire Emblem: Awakening. He is the tactician for Chrom's "Shepherds", a group of soldiers who keep peace throughout the haildom of Ylisse. In Fire Emblem: Awakening, Robin starts in the tactician class, which enables him to attack with magic tomes as well as swords. This is how Robin is portrayed in Super Smash Bros. 4.

Fire Emblem: Awakening begins with a premonition of Robin and Chrom fighting a dark mage named Validar. They defeat him, but Validar uses magic to control Robin, and force him to murder Chrom with Thunder magic.

When Robin wakes up, he has been found by Chrom in a field, and has no recollection of who he is. He joins Chrom, and they proceed to the capital of Ylisse. On the road there, they are attacked by mysterious creatures known as Risen, but are able to fend them off with the help of a swordsman calling himself "Marth". Two years later, "Marth" reveals that she is actually Lucina, Chrom's daughter who had come from the future to stop the revival of the dark dragon Grima. Chrom agrees to help her.

Eventually, Robin learns that he is the son of Validar, the leader of the people who work toward the return of Grima, the Grimleal. Robin had been bred to be the ideal host for Grima apon his return, but his mother had escaped with him in his youth. Robin refuses to become Grima's host, and the same battle from the premonition in the beginning of the game begins. However, because Robin has had this premonition, he weakens his magical power so that it is not enough to kill Chrom. Validar is killed, but it is revealed that when Lucina came back in time, her timeline's version of Robin came with her.

This version of Robin had accepted Grima's power, and is able to awaken the dark god. Chrom decides to awaken Naga, the divine dragon who is Grima's counterpart. Naga is awakened and grants her power to Chrom's sword, Falchion. However, her power is not able to kill Grima. It can only put him to sleep. The only power that can destroy Grima is his own. Since Robin is technically the incarnation of Grima, he is able to kill him, but will destroy himself in the process. Naga hints that Robin may survive, if his bonds with his friends are strong enough.

Chrom, Robin, and the Shepards then face off against the evil incarnation of Robin as the final boss. The game can end two different ways;

-Chrom uses Falchion to put Grima to sleep, and Robin survives.

-Robin sacrifices himself to kill Grima, and Chrom vows to keep searching until he finds him. His bonds are strong enough to keep him alive, and he is found lying in a field by Chrom once more.
