The Gimvitational is an ongoing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate invitational held in Laurel, Maryland, from June 16th-19th, 2022. The tournament was announced following GimR's presentation on the slingshot technique and features a Summit-esque voting style, where 20% of all donations and shop profits will be added to a "Player Fund," a fund that returns a percentage of money to those who make it into the nomination phase. The tournament is also experimenting with a mixed hazards on and hazard off ruleset.

Singles

  • Best of 5 all tournament
  • Phase 1 - Research and Development: 4 round robin groups of 4 players, 1st in each group advances to Phase 3 bracket Winners' side, 2nd-4th advance to Phase 2
  • Phase 2 - Clinical Trials: Gauntlet stage of 8 sets across 4 groups of 3 players
  • Phase 3 - Final Review: Double-elimination bracket stage with 8 players starting Winners’ side and 8 players starting Losers’ side

  • Winner of the previous game gets 3 bans in counterpick stages
  • Banning one stage in a row on the table bans both stages

Trivia

  • Cosmos, Light, Marss, Tweek, and Larry Lurr participated in both The Gimvitational and Smash 4 Boot Camp in December 2017, which were both 16-player invitationals held by VGBootCamp.
    • VoiD, who was in The Gimvitational but dropped out due to health issues, was a player at Smash 4 Boot Camp too. Coincidentally, he was sick for part of that event.
