Hi, I'm Ken (better known in the Smash community as MetaKing or formerly #20MK | MetaKing), and I'm a contributor to this wiki, and a dedicated Meta Knight main (*Read last paragraph for updates*).

I started playing Smash when I was around 8 years old, where at the time I only had my Wii and a few games to play with. Until one day at a yard sale I saw a copy of Super Smash Bros. Melee, two Wavebird Controllers (I eventually got Wired Controllers), and a Memory Card. Ever since that day I knew that the series would be with me for a very long time.

As stated above, I'm a very dedicated Meta Knight player because of my childhood experiences with The Kirby Series, and will probably continue to play him no matter what Buff, Nerf, controversy, Tier list, or player opinion. Some of my friends who've played against Vancouver's top players like Big D and Firefly, and are of even skill of me, even consider me the best Smash 4 Meta Knight player in Vancouver, mainly for (in my opinion) rather dumb reasons like me being the highest placing Meta Knight at every tournament I go to, and other top players at tournaments considering me as a possible candidate for that title, though I mostly deny this fact due to my inconsistent active/inactive status, as well as me considering Zak to be the better MK player in BC IMO.

With that said, I'm currently on a hiatus from (solo)-maining/playing Meta Knight in Smash 4 as of 08/04/18. I haven't dropped him altogether (NEVER WOULD I LEGITIMATELY DO THAT lol), nor is this an "emotional" change due to me "being salty I loose with him", far from it. Its morso that I feel like if I stick with ONLY him for the rest of my Smash career that I'll be left behind in the current meta, especially in my region, where players who main characters that naturally counter MK (such as Mario and Cloud) are fairly common. Going on from "MK in the meta", I personally believe he's reached the peak of his viability at all levels of play this point, and his peak IMO is generally: "Can win tournaments, but it takes more effort to solo main him compared to dual-maining him/having secondaries/secondarying him". (Most MK players like MkLeo, AC, and Abadango are examples of this in each of the different ways). So I made a promise to myself that if I don't get Top 8 with Solo MK at the next tournament I went to that had at least 100+ entrants (that ended up being AniRevo Summer 2018) that I would drop Solo MK and focus more on Lucina instead. The result was a close, but in the end, rather disappointing (for me) 9th place finish at AniRevo Summer 2018 (which is actually pretty good, but I made a promise and will keep a promise). With that, I'm currently focusing on getting my Lucina to at least a close to the level of my MK, and so that matchups that are difficult for MK (notably Mario) won't be such a hassle for me anymore, especially after going Solo MK for almost 2 years now, I'm slowly finding less enjoyment out of the character after playing him for so long. I still love the character, undoubtedly my favorite character of all time in general, its just for the time-being, I guess you can say I'm a Lucina main now lol.

Random facts from me

  • My favorite characters are (as if it weren't obvious enough) Meta Knight and Lucina. The fact that they're both my favorite color (blue), and wield swords is literally perfect for someone like me, as well as me loving them in their origin games/series. The fact that they both have masks though is purely coincidental XD.
  • It just so happens that my name is Ken and I play Red MarthMarth (SSBB)Marth (SSB4) (main in Melee Marth (SSBM))... Sounds familar right? lol
    • Besides this, I typically use default and/or blue Alts for characters I play (Falco and Donkey Kong are notable exceptions to this though, as I use the black Falco color Falco (SSB4) and the Gold Donkey Kong color Donkey Kong (SSB4), which my friends jokingly refer to as The Crow and Super Saiyan Kong).
  • My favorite smasher overall is Nairo.
  • I once experienced a glitch in Project M 3.02 with my friend, AuraSoul in Boss Battles Mode, where his Mewtwo started out immensely tiny for some reason and stayed like that until he died on the final round. Unfortunately this only happened once and I was unable to record any video proof (wish I did, as I'm curious to know if something like this has happened to anyone else).
  • I Got Kirby Triple Deluxe one day before it officially came out in North America, and NO it is not a Japanese copy (Strangely I found it in a Real Canadian SuperStore of all places?)
  • I met the voice of Mario, Charles Martinet at a Retro Gaming Expo in New Westminster.
  • I am left-handed; which makes me pretty decent at movements of my control stick, but hinders my button-mashing when excessive mashing is required (notably with Luigi).

Random Smash 4 opinions...(*may be outdated and/or informal and/or incomplete reasonings)

Category Character
Favorite Character(s) Meta Knight (SSB4) Lucina (SSB4) ← "Noticing a trend of blue swordsman with masks? Yeah, so did I!" ;D
Most Underrated Character(s) This is a difficult one for me to truly decide to be honest. Tho a few characters I feel are underrated (to varying degrees) in my opinion are:

Kirby (SSB4)Palutena (SSB4)Lucina (SSB4)Roy (SSB4)

Most Overrated Character Another difficult one (Originally Roy (SSB4), but after him getting a few decent results in tournaments thanks to Hyper, as well as my own area in players like Shoghi, Snow and RedX, I've now completely changed my opinion of him, so I'm leaving this unknown for now).
Stupidest character to fight against *(If you main any of these characters, sorry, but I just don't like fighting your character)*. *Cloud (SSB4)Mario (SSB4)Captain Falcon (SSB4) ← The easiest characters to play that are in the higher tiers. Its not necessarily that I'm bad in the matchup(s), it just gets annoying when half of my bracket consists of Clouds, Marios, and Falcons (all three having become so common in the BC scene that it has literally became a meme within the BC Smash community (especially Falcon)).
  • R.O.B. (SSB4) ← His high usage of Gyros and auto-cancel N-airs is pretty annoying, and his up air is really weird to DI properly. His overall presence is also annoying; I don't necessarily hate the character or the fact that he's in this game, I just don't like the thought of "getting beat up by an average at best gaming-peripheral from the 80s :P".
  • Bayonetta (SSB4) ← Its Bayonetta, what else can I say that hasn't already been said?..
  • Sonic (SSB4) ←Probably my most hated character to fight (and watch) overall. Literally just runs away and does the same 2 moves (that's exaggerating FYI) over and over again gets repetitive to play against and watch. Also, the noise for Spin Dash gets REALLY fuggin annoying after like the twelfth time (which happens rather quickly considering how much that move is used in Sonic's neutral game).

Amiibos I have

  • Italics are names
  • On the subject of figures, I also have the Kirby, Marth, and (the fantastic 10/10) Meta Knight Nendoroids, as well as the amazing Lucina Figma.

About my mains

  • How high the character is indicates how much I generally like and/or play them.
Super Smash Bros. (Inactive; may be outdated and/or informal reasonings)
IntenseDifficulty.pngMains I've never had an interest in playing any other character besides Falcon as a primary main, and he is the easiest character to play as in my opinion (besides recovery). I really don't see Smash 64 as something I'll play truly competitively due to its higher learning curve compared to the other games, so I really only play it in friendlies, but Falcon is always the character I turn to. Before I unlocked Falcon as a kid, Kirby and Fox were my mains, and decided to keep Kirby as primary secondaries after I decided to main Falcon, though Kirby ended up being a dual-main with Falcon, even if I'm inactive with Smash 64 at this point XD.
VeryHardDifficulty.pngSecondaries I generally liked playing as Luigi as a kid, and even though some consider him the worst character (which, now that I think of it, he is), I would always play Luigi if Im having a good time.
Super Smash Bros. Melee (Inactive; may be outdated and/or informal reasonings)
IntenseDifficulty.pngMains Before I got Melee for myself, I played the game at a friend's house, and believe it or not, Marth was the first Smash Bros. character I ever played! After I got Melee, I immediately unlocked Marth first. After I started to learn the game competitively, and learned about all the advanced techniques and tier lists, I knew I made a good choice of choosing Marth.

I don't recall how I got to main Falco, but he seems to fit my playstyle well, and I felt like I can learn the advanced fundamentals like Mulitishining from him, so here he is.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Inactive; may be outdated and/or informal reasonings)
IntenseDifficulty.pngMains I feel like if I'm ever playing someone new I always have to explain why I main him: Quote- "I main Meta Knight not because he's the best character (I didn't even know he was for a while) I main him because of my childhood with the Kirby series, and because he is my favourite video game character!" (I cannot tell you how many times I've had to say that!) Anyway, Meta Knight in Brawl was really fun for me because he could do anything I wanted for a character, and as a result, fit my playstyle perfectly. It was like I was meant to play him.
VeryHardDifficulty.pngSecondaries Similar reasons to Melee; good (Brawl) fundamentals such as DACUS, Gattling Combos, and what most I know refer to as "Brawl BS", Chain grabbing and Camping :P XD.

During the short ban on Meta Knight, I needed to find a main. Then I remembered that if Meta Knight wasn't a character for me, Dedede was my go to guy. I really like his playstyle and the things he can do, like his amazing recovery and his infamous chain grab (I swear, I've made like so many players rage-quit just from that!) And BTW, landing that rare forward smash, is ooooo soooo satisfying! At first, I hated some of the changes the did to Marth from Melee, such as the reduced range and nerfed Down air, but after a while I gotten to like this Marth too, and while he is no longer my true main, he is my go to secondary.

Super Smash Bros. 4(*Incomplete; Marth, Roy and Falco are currently missing their descriptions*)
IntenseDifficulty.pngMains Before the game came out, of all the newcomers, Lucina was the only one I had any real interest in maining, due to my experience with Fire Emblem Awakening and her being similar to Marth, and when Smash 3DS came out in NA, I didn't think the character was as bad as others were saying she was, and decided to keep the character despite others' opinions. Another reason was because of Marth (who overtime, I began to dislike watching and playing as in Smash 4, due to his playstyle being rather repetitive in my opinion; constant Tipper F-air spacing and tippers in general started to get boring for me to watch and play as) being my main in Melee (this was when I was still active in Melee BTW), I thought Lucina's less precise playstyle wouldn't affect how I played Marth in Melee, and it seemed to work well with me. Overtime, the character's buffs turned her from my favourite character to play as other than Meta Knight, to that and my key secondary. I'm always one to choose Lucina over Marth! XP

I defiantly planned on maining Meta Knight again after he was announced, but during the time of October 2014-May 2015, I was honestly SCARED about his viability at the time, feared that I would really have to work myself off in tournament if he were to be considered Low Tier. But, as time went on, all of that changed for the better. After MkLeo's win against Mr. R at Smash Factor 4, I knew... "Meta Knight is (sort of) back!" Ever since then, I've gotten decent results in tournament with his and he has become the character I am most recognized with around the players, and is my favorite incarnation of Meta Knight to play as. (***As of 08/04/18, I'm currently taking a hiatus from playing MK, but the info here still applies so I'm keeping it***)

VeryHardDifficulty.pngSecondaries Not someone I would necessarily pull out in tournaments seriously (not that he's bad, far from it, it's that I feel my Falcon is nowhere as strong as other Falcons in BC, which there are A LOT of), but he's hella fun to play, and you can really mess someone up if you get a good string with him going, especially on Smashville XD.

I always found Luigi a fun character to play (as), so I'd been planning to have him as a secondary for a long time, but like many, was reluctant because of my inability to mash perfectly (my mashing is pretty mediocre, mainly because my right hand isn't my dominant one (yes I'm left-handed :P), so its very difficult for me than it would be for others). If my mashing was better than it is now, I would've picked him up a long time ago. Despite this, he eventually became a secondary anyway, because "who doesn't love getting grabs as Luigi... I hate getting grabbed by Luigi tho XD".While I was very reluctant at first (cuz literally almost ever player in BC has a Cloud in some way now (no joke, Doubles is a mess now XD)), I finally gave in since he's fun to play, and if I ever struggle in doubles, my teammate and I know what to do... ;) XD

Similar reasons as Falcon TBH, except he's not fast lol. *To be Added*. *To be Added*.

*To be Added*.After the buffs it got, a few of my friends actually recommended that I pick up Mewtwo as a secondary, and while it took me a while to get use to it, I finally think I've got a hang of how to play it (I got (a bit) of practice from Mewtwo dittos with AuraSoul, and now, I pretty much never lose the ditto against him XD).

Kirby is a character who I always enjoyed watching and who I would always root for in tournament (if he wasn't against MK or Lucy that is :l), and I loved his combo game and fundamentals, and Kirby as a character himself. So, one day, out of sheer boredom, I randomly decided to pick up the character, and instantly felt like I mastered the character. His easy combo game and simple strategy really fit my playstyle.Originally, despite the character's nerfs (which I didn't notice for a while) I still loved playing as Dedede, and his reputation in Vancouver is also strong because of Big D, and I use to see him as the most underrated character in the game, but, after gaining more experience, and from what Big D sees in him, I've excepted overtime that Dedede is one of the worst characters in the game, and, unless you're Dawson. you won't accomplish anything notable with him. I still like playing him sometimes, but I play him far less than I use to, as I would rather concentrate on the characters I enjoy playing more and that will actually benefit me (Meta Knight and Lucina), and I also no longer think of Dedede from a favorable perspective. (Sorry Dawson! :P)

Project M (Inactive; may be outdated and/or informal reasonings)
IntenseDifficulty.pngMains While I mained the character before this, during the Summer of 2014, I went to Anime Revolution, an event Vancouver has annually, and played a TON of Project M friendlies, of course, as Meta Knight. I was considered the best Meta Knight at that event, and really got me confident on my potential in tournaments.

Same as Melee.

VeryHardDifficulty.pngSecondaries Under the influence of Big D (who I met at Anime Revolution 2014... And got bodied by...) I decided to Keep Dedede around as a strong secondary. BY FAR the best version of Roy ever. Project M did a FANTASTIC job with buffs that actually matter.

Same as Melee.

;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
