The Spiny Shell, also known as the Blue Shell is an item in Super Smash Bros. 4. First seen in the April 2014 Nintendo Direct, it will hover above a given player for several seconds before dropping down on them. The item's effects on contact are still unknown.
Origin
This variation of a Blue Spiny Shell comes from the Mario Kart series, in which it is a rare item that tears through the course in pursuit of the leader and then hits them, causing a large explosion. The item has achieved infamy for its potential to completely reverse a race, as it significantly slows down the racer in first place and is borderline impossible to avoid.
