The Villager is a character from the Animal Crossing series. He has been confirmed as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4. He has been confirmed to use various tools from his home series, such as a shovel, an axe, and a net.
Character description
In the Animal Crossing series the player acts as the sole human in a town filled with friendly anthropomorphic animals. The player doesn't have a universal appearance, with the look of the player being determined by a series of questions presented by the first non-playable character the player interacts with. Usually this NPC is Rover the Cat, who introduces the player to Animal Crossing. This survey not only determines the player's face but also the villager's gender, the name of their town, and the layout of their town.
While the role of the villager varies very slightly in the series, the general consensus is that the villager lives his or her life in this town with animals. Unlike most games, there is no universal plot to the series but there are plenty of things for the player to do such as go fishing, shopping, designing clothing, etc. The villager also tends to the town's environment such as by planting flowers or by cutting down excess trees.
In the latest title, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the role of the villager is expanded to the villager acting as the town mayor, and this gives the player greater control in managing and customizing their town.
The villager featured in Super Smash Bros. 4 appears to be based off of the artwork for the male villager in the latest console title in the series, Animal Crossing: City Folk.
In Super Smash Bros. Melee
The Villager is mentioned in both K.K. Slider's and Tom Nook's trophy descriptions.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl
The Villager appears as a background character in Smashville.
A Villager also appears as a trophy in Brawl, where he is called 'Animal Crossing Boy'.
- The male player character from Animal Crossing. He feels the need to set out on his own and move into town. Chatting with neighbors is a given, but there are a ton of other things to do as well, like collecting furniture, customizing rooms, catching fish and bugs, digging up fossils, etc. He may get bee stung or fall in a pit, but he still has fun.
The Villager was considered as a character in the planning stages of Brawl, but dropped because "he wasn't suited for battle".[1]
In Super Smash Bros. 4
As a Playable Fighter
Villager was confirmed as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. 4 in the first trailer shown for the game at E3 2013. His moveset consists of attacking with various miscellaneous objects from the Animal Crossing series, and is capable of picking up any item or projectile to throw it later.

Trivia
- Sakurai previously stated that the Villager had an "innocent charm that would be ruined if he was in a fighting game." Despite this, the Villager is playable in Super Smash Bros. 4. Funnily enough, and in many ways fulfilling what Sakurai had previously predicted, the Villager was revealed as a playable character and an Internet meme became widespread, portraying the Villager as a dangerous psychopath. This is mostly due to how the Villager is always smiling, the gleam in his eye during the trailer for Super Smash Bros. 4, and the usage of dangerous weapons, such as an axe. A similar meme has also happened with the Wii Fit Trainer. [2]
