Revision as of 23:01, November 1, 2022
Smash Remix is a gameplay modification of Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64, with the vision of expanding upon the original game with new characters, stages, and features while staying true to its core gameplay. All mechanics and original 12 characters are unchanged. This vision also involves having tournaments where the new characters are pitched against the old ones, all the clones being viable against the originals.
Characters
Smash Remix features all 12 characters from the original game without any changes. Additionally, the player has the option to play as regional variants of the characters (See also: List of regional version differences (SSB)), with the only ones not present being Fox (Europe) and Link (Australia). Currently, 14 new characters have been added labeled as "Remix Characters", with one currently unknown slot on the character selection screen. Prior to Version 0.9, Remix Characters would completely replace the characters they were based on (Ganondorf replaced Captain Falcon, Young Link replaced Link, Falco replaced Fox, and Dr. Mario replaced Mario). This would be changed starting in Version 0.9 to allow players to use the original characters alongside the new ones. In addition to Remix Characters, "Boss Characters" are also playable, with the player given the ability to choose them upon input when selecting a certain character. These boss characters include the originally unplayable Metal Mario, Giant Donkey Kong, and polygon versions, being the boss characters of Mario, Donkey Kong, and each of the original 12 respectively. Brand new boss characters have also been included, with Giga Bowser, Mad Piano, and Super Sonic being the boss characters of Bowser, Luigi, and Sonic respectively.

Stages
As of version 1.2.0, Smash Remix features 79 slots for stages on 5 pages on the stage selection screen (17 per page, 6x3 with random stage at the bottom right). It also features two toggles for turning stage hazards or Platform Movement off.
From the original Super Smash Bros., all nine original stages are included, with Omega and Dream Land versions for all of them. Unlike Ω form and Battlefield form stages in the official titles, the Stage hazard of each is still present if hazards are enabled. Omega stages keep the dimensions of Dream Land's main platform and blast zones as opposed to the N64 Final Destination, owing to its abnormally high ceiling. Some stages also have a "remix" form, which encompasses alternate variations that cannot otherwise be classified. Several stages are included from across the official Smash series, while others are entirely original and might come from series that are not represented in Remix by a playable character. Some of the stages originating from official Smash games (such as Green Hill Zone) feature similar aesthetics but significantly altered layouts, while others like Corneria City (Lylat Cruise) significantly change the aesthetics but keep the same layout as the original.
Stages that come with Omega, Dream Land, and Remix variations will be marked with a superscript Ω (Omega), δ (Delta), and ρ (Rho) respectively. Stages that do not currently have their hazard implemented will be marked with a superscript X.
Prior to version 1.2.0, the Skyloft stage from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U was included, but has since been replaced by the Tal Tal Heights stage.

Stage legality
According to https://www.smashremix.net/rules the suggested stage list from the remix dev team consists of Dreamland as the starter stage and 11 possible counterpicks:
Image | Stage | Status | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Dream Land | Starter | Main stage in vanilla 64 (and only stage for competitive play). Playing on alternative versions such as Zebes Landing or Fray's Stage is also allowed. Wind hazard is usually turned off. | |
Pokémon Stadium | Counterpick | No transformations. | |
Yoshi's Story | Counterpick | Cloud moves like in Melee. No Shy Guy hazards. | |
Smashville | Counterpick | Platform permanently moves horizontally to both ends of the stage. | |
Green Hill Zone | Counterpick | ||
Goomba Road | Counterpick | ||
Gerudo Valley | Counterpick | ||
Kalos Pokémon League | Counterpick | No stage transformations. | |
Spiral Mountain | Counterpick | No stage transformations. | |
Dr. Mario | Counterpick | ||
Glacial River | Counterpick | ||
Planet Clancer | Counterpick | Moving platform lower than the stage center that sometimes comes out on both sides of it. |
