Article on Wikipedia Mega Man X (character)

X, also known as Mega Man X, (ロックマンエックス, Rockman X) is the protagonist of the Mega Man X sub-series of the Mega Man universe.

Origin

As the final and ultimate creation of Dr. Light, X was created as a powerful robot with human-level capacities, and not bound by the laws of robotics as was the original Mega Man. He and Zero were the first known robots with this level of free will. As a potentially dangerous robot at the time he was built, Dr. Light sealed him in a capsule for diagnostic training to ensure if these improvements were safe. About 100 years after the original Mega Man series, an archaeologist by the name of Dr. Cain discovered the ruins of Dr. Light's lab, which contained the capsule X was in. Dr. Cain decided to duplicate and mass-produce X's technology to create a new race, dubbed Reploids. Due to having complete free will, Reploids also have the potential of rebelling against society; these rebellious Reploids are referred to as "Mavericks". X's role as a Maverick Hunter entails protecting the world from Mavericks such as Sigma and defeating them.

After the events of the Mega Man X series, X and Zero were caught in another conflict known as the "Elf Wars," due to its use of electronic lifeforms known as "cyber-elves". During the conflict, X used his body as a seal for a powerful cyber-elf known as the Mother Elf, as she had been corrupted by a virus. X's advanced AI allowed him to become a cyber-elf himself and produce four Reploids from his body's DNA programming, with a fifth created by a young scientist named Ciel, acting as his stand-in. However, this stand-in, officially known as "Copy-X", slowly grew mad with power and became a ruthless tyrant over the otherwise utopian government known as Neo Arcadia, branding humans and Reploids alike as Mavericks, including Ciel and a reawakened Zero. After the defeat of Copy-X, the true X played a role from the sidelines, guiding Zero to finish the loose ends left from the Elf Wars. Nearly a century afterwards, the DNA programs of X and Zero were used one last time in the creation of the Biometals, with the two becoming Models X and Z respectively. The X Buster that was once used by X was later found by MegaMan Volnutt and upgraded for use in his adventures.

Trivia

  • Although X is referred to as a "Reploid" in his trophy description, this is incorrect, as he precedes actual Reploids and the term only applies to the class of robots that are derived from his design.
