Playstyle
Shogun is known for his very smart playstyle coupled with great match-up adaptation, as well as often going for mixups and flashy conversions.
In Ultimate
As Snake, he is a prominent user of B-reversing, Turnaround-B, wavebouncing and Z-Catching. His neutral mostly consist of setting up grenades to throw them at his opponent in order to wall them and put himself in an advantageous position where he can pressure his opponent's shield with down tilt, go for a grab, or follow up with neutral or down aerial for more damage. Shogun also often tends to approach with either neutral aerial or dash attack. His ledgetraps rely less on using up smash to cover multiple options like the others top level Snake players but more on conditioning, using grenades and C4 to bait his opponent and often going for a hard punish.
He can also play games without using grenades like he did against Maister at Kongo Saga.
Trivia
- Shogun is known as "The Intelligence(知性)" among the Japanese Smash community since he graduated Kyoto University, one of the highest ranked university in Japan.
- However, he is notorious for occasionally making unintelligent statements during his livestreams despite his nickname, which has become a meme. There is a popular Twitter account called Shogun's unintelligent moments, which posts various clips of him being unintelligent.
