Byleth is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as Challenger Pack 5. He is the only representative from Nintendo in the Fighter's Pass and is classified as fighter #75. He, along with his female counterpart, were officially announced on January, 16th, 2020 as the final downloadable character for the first Fighter's Pass. They will release on January 28th, 2020.
Zach Aguilar and Yūsuke Kobayashi reprise their roles as Male Byleth, while Jeannie Tirado and Shizuka Ito reprise their role as Female Byleth.
Attributes
- Like most other swordfighters, Byleth is designed to be a "distance demon". Their average reach is long due to his weapons.
- To compensate for this, Byleth's mobility is low (slightly faster than Robin) and his grabs have short reach.
- Byleth's main weapon is the Sword of the Creator, though he also uses Heroes' Relics throughout his moveset:
- Like Robin and Corrin, Byleth has a female variation as alternate costumes.
Moveset
- The Sword of the Creator is utilized in his basic attacks and upward-inputted moves.
- Neutral attack - a knifehand strike, followed by a roundhouse kicked, followed by a flurry attack with the whip sword.
- Dash attack - an inward swipe while sliding forward.
- Forward tilt - an elegant downward strike.
- Up tilt - swings his sword in an arc upwards and outwards over his head.
- Down tilt - a low swipe with the whip sword.
- Up smash - swings the whip sword upward, hitting multiple times.
- Up aerial - swings the whip sword upward, hitting multiple times.
- His up special has him fling the whip sword upwards, acting as a tether recovery. If it connects with an opponent, Byleth reels them in and bounces off them. At higher percents, this bounce will meteor smash. Functions similarly to Joker's Grappling Hook.
- Areadbhar has long range but is stronger at the tip. With the exception of side special, these moves generally have precise hitboxes. It is utilized in Byleth's forward-inputted moves.
- Forward smash - stabs the lance forwards. Can be angled, though the upward-angled variation is the strongest.
- Forward aerial - swings the lance forwards.
- Back aerial - stabs the lance behind him.
- His side special has him lunge forward swing the the lance upwards with extreme range. Using a tapped input increases the distance Byleth travels.
- Aymr is slow but its attacks are very powerful. Uses the same heavy sword sound effects as Ike's sword, Ragnell. It is utilized in Byleth's downward-inputted moves.
- Down smash - sweeps the axe from left to right.
- Down aerial - swings the axe downwards that meteor smashes.
- His down special has him channel all of his energy into a single, powerful strike. Has super armor during startup, can be turned around, and can drop through platforms. Like other "bold" moves (such as Falcon Punch and Hatchet Man), it triggers Special Zoom.
- Failnaught is used for quick attacks. It is utilized in a few of Byleth's neutral moves.
- Neutral aerial - spins the bow around him, similar to Pit's.
- His neutral special has him fire an arrow. Byleth can charge it for more speed and damage, change directions while charging, and can charge-cancel at a certain duration. Charging at its maximum duration will fire a powerful arrow like a beam of light.
Trivia
- Byleth is the only first party character in the first wave of the Fighters' Pass and the second first party DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, after Piranha Plant.
