Ganondorf (ガノンドロフ, Ganondorf) is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Changes from Super Smash Bros. 4

Ganondorf has gone through some dramatic changes in design from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, most notably in his aesthetics. Ganondorf sports a remastered appearance from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and now utilizes the sword from the Spaceworld 2000 Tech Demo and Super Smash Bros. Melee in his smash attacks. Additionally, he is granted a slight boost in power and altered animations for many of his moves, the latter of which furthering him from Captain Falcon and making him his own character for the first time in the series.

Aesthetics

  • Change Ganondorf's appearance has reverted to his original design from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, albeit with a complete graphical overhaul to his appearance. Additionally, his voice is reverted back to his original voice actor, with updated voice clips.
  • Change Ganondorf's initial dash and running animations were altered.
  • Change All of Ganondorf's darkness-type moves have become significantly flashier, causing large purple explosions on hit.

Attributes

  • Buff Universal frame 3 jumpsquat significantly improves Ganondorf's ground-to-air maneuverability.

Ground attacks

  • Buff Neutral attack no longer has a sourspot.
  • Change Dash attack's animation slightly altered.
  • Buff Up tilt has significantly faster startup.
  • Change Up tilt now has a flame effect on Ganondorf's foot during the startup.
  • Buff Down tilt's damage was greatly increased.
  • Buff Ganondorf has a new forward smash, a downward sword slash. Compared to the previous forward smash, it has significantly improved range, and covers overhead.
  • Buff Ganondorf has a new up smash, an overhead sword swing. Compared to the previous up smash, it has significantly improved range, and covers around his body.
  • Buff Ganondorf has a new down smash, a low sword hilt thrust forward into a stab behind him, similar to Cloud's down smash. Compared to the previous down smash, it has a much lower hitbox placement allowing it to hit low crouching opponents, and lowers Ganondorf's hurtbox. It also now sends enemies at a semi-spike angle. The hitbox on the first hit that sent opponents forward and away from the second hit was removed.

Aerial attacks

  • Buff All aerials have significantly lower landing lag.
  • Bug fix Forward aerial's auto-cancel window was restored.

Throws/other attacks

  • Change Forward throw's animation was altered.
  • Buff Up throw's damage was significantly increased.
  • Buff Edge attack deals 2.5% increased damage (from 8% → 10.5%)

Special Moves

  • Buff Opponents released by trading attacks with Dark Dive during its grab now receive 8.4% damage.
  • Nerf Opponents can now escape aerial Flame Choke via button mashing, significantly hindering Ganoncide's utility while making it completely unsafe to use as it likely leaves Ganondorf unable to recover.
  • Buff Grounded Wizard's Foot deals more damage as it travels further and deals multiple hits near the end of the move.
  • Buff Beast Ganon deals 12.4% more damage (40% → 52.4%).
  • Change Beast Ganon's appearance is now that of his Ocarina of Time incarnation. Instead of slamming the ground, Beast Ganon slashes with his swords before rushing forward.

Trivia

  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate marks the first time in the series that Ganondorf utilizes a sword in his base moveset.
    • However, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U allows him to utilize his sword, albeit as a custom move.
