Trivia
- Yoshi, Jigglypuff, and Captain Falcon are the only fighters to have voice clips reused in all five games.
- Jigglypuff is unique in that it has received new voice clips in other languages (Japanese in Melee and Ultimate, French in Melee and Brawl, German in Brawl); only its English clips have been reused.
- Sonic, Pit, Fox, Falco, and Lucario are the only characters to have their English voice actors changed from Brawl to SSB4.
- Out of these, Sonic is the only one to reuse voice clips from other games.
- Ivysaur and Pokémon Trainer are the only characters to have their English voice actors changed from Brawl to Ultimate.
- Both genders of Inkling are voiced by Yuki Tsujii, making Inkling the only character to share a voice actor between genders, not counting Pikachu.
- Additionally, the female Inkling is one of two female characters to be voiced by a male actor, with the other being Kazooie.
- Shadow is the only Assist Trophy character to have his voice actor changed from Brawl to SSB4.
- Ike and Viridi are the only characters to have their English voice actors changed from SSB4 to Ultimate.
- In Super Smash Bros. and Super Smash Bros. Melee, Luigi's voice clips are pitch-shifted clips of Mario from Super Mario 64, even though Luigi had his own voice in previous Mario games.
- Charles Martinet's surname is misspelled "Martinee" in the credits of the original Super Smash Bros. This spelling matches the name's pronunciation.
- Link, Fox, and Jigglypuff are only members of the "perfect-attendance crew" whose voice actors have been changed for at least one language or installment. Conversely, Dr. Mario, Pichu, Young Link, the Ice Climbers, Marth, and Roy are the only Melee newcomers who keep their voice actors from that game for at least one language.
- Many Brawl newcomers share a similar trait: Pit, Sonic, Lucario, Ike, and Pokémon Trainer keep their Japanese voice actors from Brawl in later games, but receive new voice actors in English.
- Of these, Sonic is the only one to have his Japanese voice clips from Brawl recycled throughout. While Ike had his recycled in SSB4, Ultimate gives him new ones in Japanese.
- As the English voice recordings for Super Smash Bros. 4 and Ultimate were not unionized, Antony Del Rio (Pit and Dark Pit) and Hynden Walch (Viridi) are notably uncredited for their appearances. Laura Bailey is also not credited as Lucina in Ultimate, and was similarly uncredited in Fire Emblem Awakening.
- This is also likely the reason why several Kid Icarus voice actors were replaced, and why Cloud is only voiced in Japanese.
- Several announcers have also voiced playable characters:
- Charles Martinet received a Guinness World Records certificate for the most performances as a single video game character, with Ultimate marking his 100th performance as Mario.
- Eric Newsome, Meta Knight's English voice actor, mistakenly labels the Super Smash Bros. franchise as the Super Mario Bros. franchise on his website. [1]
- In a similar vein, Reuben Langdon, Ken's English voice actor, mistakenly claimed to have portrayed Raiden from Metal Gear in a Super Smash Bros. game. This led many fans to conclude that he had accidentally leaked the inclusion of Raiden in the then-upcoming fourth entry, before later correcting himself and stating that he had mixed Super Smash Bros. up with PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
- Pokémon Trainer has the most voice actors in the entire series, totaling at 18. Wii Fit Trainer previously held the title, and still holds the record for the most voice actors in a single game, having 17 in Smash 4.
- Wii Fit Trainer is the only character to have different voice actors for different regional dialects. This is seen in the distinction between American and British English as well as Latin American and Iberian Spanish.
- Because of this, Wii Fit Trainer is also the only character to feature up to four voice actors in a single language.
- Though the Pokémon anime was recasted prior to Brawl's release, coinciding with its localization moving from 4Kids Entertainment to The Pokémon Company International, the Smash Bros. series continues to use voice actors from the 4Kids dub for Pokémon such as Jigglypuff and Snorlax, rather than their current actors.
- Similarly, other Pokémon such as Eevee and Togedemaru use their Japanese voices in the Smash Bros. series despite having dubbed voices in the anime.
- Ultimate is the first game with official voice acting for Erdrick, Solo, and Eight, and Masahiro Sakurai shared some interesting pieces of trivia about each of the Hero's voice actors and their recording sessions:
- The Luminary's voice actress, Mitsuki Saiga, reprises her role from Dragon Quest XI S (thus technically making Ultimate her debut voicing the character), but was directed to have more energy in her vocals to better fit the style of Smash.
- Erdrick's voice actor, Nobuyuki Hiyama, had also notably voiced Adult Link in Ocarina of Time, Smash 64, and Melee. Of the four Heroes, his recording session was completed the fastest due to his extensive experience. Sakurai also notes that his performance can be recognized as Guy Shishioh from The King of Braves GaoGaiGar.
- Solo's voice actor, Takeshi Kusao, asked for a lot of detail on the backstory of the protagonist to help improve his performance.
- Eight's voice actor, Yūki Kaji, apparently dreamed of doing voice work for the Dragon Quest and Super Smash Bros. series, and he was enthusiastic to fulfill both at the same time in Ultimate.
- In spite of Orbital Gate Assault not returning, Jaz Adams and Lyssa Browne (the English voices of Peppy Hare and Slippy Toad on that stage) still remain credited in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
- In Ultimate, Wendee Lee (Lyn's voice actress from Fire Emblem Heroes) is credited, but the English version of Ultimate uses repurposed audio clips from Brawl and Smash 4[2], thus she is voiced in-game by Lani Minella. This is also inconsistent with Marth, Roy, Ike, Tiki, and Black Knight, whose Ultimate voice actors reprise their roles from Fire Emblem Heroes.
