Hey, I have a hunch you've been playing the game since its release and I want to know: Have you developed any strategies for acquiring all the custom specials? I've only recently gotten all of Mario's and that took days. :Lucky you, I need masses of equipment for regression purposes and couldn't care less about all the custom moves I'm getting. Either way, abusing Home as they say is probably the most efficient way to do it, as Trophy Rush is a massive pain in general, and Smash Run is a lot of work for equivalent rewards. == My own Smasher page ==
Hi, there. I just have one question about something.
So, a week from today, my school will be having its own video game tournament, with Melee being one of the games. Me being the smasher that I am, I am definitely participating in said tournament, and will be going up against people in Melee matches with Sheik. After the tournament comes to an end, there will be rankings made determined by how well the players have done. After I get my own ranking, would it be acceptable for me to create a "smasher" page about me? I know this isn't anything like an MLG tournament, but it's at least something. ::I see. Now, would this classify as notable? I'm sorry if I may be asking stupid questions, I'm just not sure how a school tournament (a high school tournament, for the record) would fit in to that. Would it be possible to do any sort of neat bot editing to simplify the move process for Dream Land -> Dream Land (SSB) and Mute City -> Mute City (SSBM)? == Is Luigi still a semi-clone of Mario, or not? ==
Sorry to bring the debate to your backyard, but the dispute here can't get resolved because the opposition believes I have a bias, and that the testing I did is therefore invalid. Their conclusions, I think, were made out of stubbornness or spite (I've conflicted with Qwerty and Nutter Butter before), but since they're a majority, there's nothing I can say to convince them. I'll admit that I did get overly aggressive with them and used a tone unbecoming of an established user, but it's mainly because they're incredibly pompous and dense, and the elitism they exhibited pissed me off (Nutter Butter started everything off with "I don't care if [...]", and responded to everything I said with "my argument might be better because I don't like the way you worded yours lol"). That said, I feel your input is necessary and will settle the debate. <font face="X-Files"><span style="color:#0000a5">Blue</span> <span style="color:#0000a5">Ninjakoopa</span></font> 19:36, 25 October 2014 (EDT)

::(I'm typing this as I think, so it continues changing theories. That's how I work though, so deal with it.) I can't entirely call you biased since you never truly argued. Although I'm clearly biased, I honestly think 35% is rather low. This is probably going to be shot down for being pompous and dense, but I think the numbers would be better off as 75% and higher for full clones with 50%-75% for semi-clones. From OT's testing, all Melee clones are above 75% except Captain Falcon and Ganondorf, but since they're clearly designed as full clones, perhaps 60% should be the limit just to keep them in, in which case a better number for semi-clones would be 40%, or as low as 35% (the latter of which would keep Luigi in the semi-clone range in Brawl and SSB4). If the semi-clone range is 40%, Fox/Falco and Link/Toon Link would still be semi-clones in Brawl, but Falcon/Ganon and Mario/Luigi would not (which would also make them non-clones in Smash 4 as well). If it is 35%, this makes Mario/Luigi semi-clones in Brawl and Smash 4, but Falcon/Ganon still aren't. Thoughts on these numbers? <small>---Previously unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. </small> 20:53, 25 October 2014 (EDT)
:::You didn't have any arguments on the Clone talk page, only fits of whining. I'm having trouble taking you seriously, and I doubt you think as you type (I doubt you think at all). Also, the example of "pompous and dense" in your text shows in your opening statement ("That's how I work though, so deal with it."). In any of your responses, do you ever plan on proving me wrong?
:::That said, the numbers you've presented can't be considered valid; you've accused me of a "bias", then present obviously biased numbers (arbitrary percentage floor of 40%, just to keep Mario and Luigi from being considered semi-clones?). <font face="X-Files"><span style="color:#0000a5">Blue</span> <span style="color:#0000a5">Ninjakoopa</span></font> 21:05, 25 October 2014 (EDT)

== Personal attack? == | |||
As you can see in the section above (sorry for messaging all of that on your wall, that was probably uneccesary) and Talk:Clone, BNK is being a bit uh... forceful with his opinions on the Mario/Luigi semi-clone. I'm feeling very much attacked personally right now, considering he called me pompous and dense basically for disagreeing with him. I feel I stated my opinions, and he claims for no evident reason that it's simply whining and stupid. In order to escape the situation, I asked for the opinions of other users, which he took as proof of my idiocy because clearly I can't come up with a better argument. Overall, while SW:NPA does not make any clear references to what has happened, it states that those examples are not the only ways, so I want to see someone else's opinions. My family thinks its a personal attack, but they're clearly more biased than he is. <small>---Previously unsigned comment added by you. I'm having trouble figuring out how to describe the new sound effect that's heard when a "serious" character (Mario, Link, Pac-Man, Ganondorf, etc.) charges his or her smash attacks other than with "dunking", which is a strange word to use since it mostly applies to things being submerged in water. Remember our discussion about choice in game design?
L canceling does indeed open up choices. I can indeed verify from experience that you need to time your L cancels differently depending on your spacing.--BrianDon't try me! 02:10, 15 August 2014 (EDT)
- An option requiring skill to execute does not mitigate always being the superior option. Compare teching - it's sometimes the right choice to intentionally fail a tech, whereas there is never any benefit to intentionally not L-cancel (at least in Melee; in SSB64 you have to not L-cancel if you want landing hitboxes because it skips instead of reducing, though this by itself doesn't really balance it out). Series symbol requests
Hello! I may be posting in the wrong area (move if needed) but I see you are the one in charge of the series symbol artwork. I'm here to inform you of other symbols seen in the Smash games that have not been done here. First of, the symbol Metal Mario uses in 64. . Since it's a small image (I ripped it straight from the game), here's the regular Super Mario symbol in the same size to help (also ripped by me) . Next, is the "?" used when you highlight Random on 64's stage select screen (also ripped by me) . And finally, it's worth noting that the EarthBound/Mother symbol changed from Melee to Brawl (left is 64/Melee, right is Brawl) Do note, unlike the 64 stuff, I didn't rip these but found them online (Spriters-Resourse).
I hope this was informative. And I apologies if I used User Talk incorrectly (still rusty on that part of Wikis). WarioBrose (talk) 17:30, 26 August 2014 (EDT)
- I am aware of these. Here's why I haven't done anything with them:
- The method I use to create the symbols cannot handle arbitrary gradients. We probably should have a screenshot of the metallic mushroom symbol, but as a series icon, I don't think the effort would be justified.
- I don't think the SSB64 random stage icon is important - it's just a generic question mark.
- It's my opinion that the changes in the EarthBound symbol are not significant enough to warrant the effort needed to create the older version.
- I'm open to debate on these opinions, but they're why things are how they are as of right now. Toomai Glittershine The Eggster 19:59, 26 August 2014 (EDT)
- Alright, thank you for the response. All of your points are good and understandable as the symbols I posted don't have significant priority compared to the rest. I'll just leave this request on hold indefinitely until more people agree with me and want them (which I have doubts this will happen anytime soon). Again, thank you for responding. WarioBrose (talk) 20:16, 26 August 2014 (EDT)
- I agree with WarioBrose. Toomai, couldn't you just crop out the black space on those icons? The differences are small (as with the DK logo difference in transition from Melee to Brawl, and you had no problem uploading those), but still important. Also for Metal Mario's image, WarioBrose, if you could get a larger image, it could go on M. Mario's page and the logo page. Blue Ninjakoopa 21:36, 26 August 2014 (EDT)
- Blue Ninjakoopa, I wish I could get a bigger image but that image was dumped directly from the ROM (when Metal Mario is on the battlefield) so none exists (unless you want one made from scratch). Though you I agree with you a good bit on EarthBound. WarioBrose (talk) 22:24, 26 August 2014 (EDT)
- Awesome. Now Toomai, there's no rush, but at the same time, could you not brush this off? The difference between the Earthbound icons should be shown on the series symbol page. Blue Ninjakoopa 16:13, 28 August 2014 (EDT)
- I am indeed considering it. It's low priority at the moment though. Toomai Glittershine The Producer 18:23, 28 August 2014 (EDT)

Swiss Flag
The reason I changed the image of Switzerland's flag to a much bigger file size was because it was tagged as a low quality image because it "needed better proportions". Seeing as how the flag itself is shaped like a square, I assumed that it meant that the image needed to be bigger. Guess I was wrong. Sorry about that. Nymbare and his talk 10:40, 7 September 2014 (EDT)

Removed Characters (SSB4)
I'm guessing the reason it was made is because we have the exact same type of template for cut veterans from melee, being "Category:Removed_characters_(SSBB)", which hasn't been deleted since 2008, so I'm suggesting we bring back the template. Laikue (talk|contribs) 16:43, 12 September 2014 (EDT)

Quick Question.
I am running into a small consistency issue with the Special Moves. Some of the pages have the manual desciptions of the moves, and of the pages that do, some of them are displayed as quotes at the top of the page (the method I prefer to use) and some have the descriptions getting their own section in the article itself. Which of these should be used as the standard? I'll be going through a good number of the Special Move pages, so I would like to have them be as consistent as possible. And as for where the Customization sections are placed, I've been trying to keep them higher up in the article, above the non-gameplay related sections. I digress, though. Toymakers Creation (talk) 15:52, 16 September 2014 (EDT)
- Personally I don't understand why people are so obsessed with having quotes at the top of pages. If it's important to the article, it belongs in the article; if it's not important, it doesn't belong anywhere. Specifically, for instruction manual blurbs, I really don't think they should be page-top quotes because there can be more than one, which just inflates the page header and looks silly. Toomai Glittershine The Sphere 17:00, 16 September 2014 (EDT)
- It's a wiki thing. Lots of wikis put quotes from whatever work that describes the topic of the article, and for Smash the best way to officially do that is by quoting the blurb. It's also a nice way to get a quite, laconic summarization, so I can see why they would want them there. My only issue with is is the aforementioned lack of consistency. I suppose the larger discussion would be whether or not the blurbs deserve to be placed at the top and if it's smart design-wise to do so. Autoconfirm
Hey, I was told to drop you a message about this on the irc. I've had my account since (at least, maybe earlier than) April and have made a couple edits on the wiki, but haven't received any kind of autoconfirm in that whole time, which is preventing me from making some edits to a few SSB4 character pages. What do I need to do to make it happen? Thanks Aurist (talk) 22:45, 16 September 2014 (EDT)
- See this and you'll understand that you've only met ONE of the two requirements to become autoconfirmed. In order to achieve that status, you not only need to have had an account for at least a week, (which you've done) but you also need to have made at least 10 mainspace edits, (by that I mean edits to articles on characters, stages, games, etc.). Do that, and you should be good. MeatBall104; Only at your Pizza Hut! 22:59, 16 September 2014 (EDT)

Potential content usage/reference request
Hello. I am a sysop of Pokémon Central Wiki, an Italian site affiliated with Bulbapedia as part of Encyclopædiæ Pokémonis (we have no affiliations with NIWA though). If possible, I would appreciate your, or better this site's staff's, permission, to use this wiki's pages about the Pokémon series in Smash Bros. as a base for our translated version, even just as a simple information source and possibly including images. Our translated pages would most likely not mirror this wiki's structure, but just consist in integrations to the (mostly already existing) relevant pages. I explicitly ask permission because this wiki is licensed under CC-BY-SA, while ours is under CC-BY-NC-SA, which I guess is not fully compatible (not really sure about all the minutiae). I'm not exactly sure about how the license's "attribution" part would work, would citing the source in the edit summaries be enough?
I contacted you as the highest-ranking staff member I found, if you're not the right person I apologize in advance. (Also, did I place this in the right spot of the page?) Thanks for the attention. --Menshay (talk) 15:57, 4 October 2014 (EDT)
- Well I'm not an expert on how the different licenses work. But I think you'll be fine if you do this: Make a template that says something like "This page borrows content translated from [SmashWiki]; the original page can be found [here]". Something like our Template:Wikipedia, though maybe less obtrusive or something depending on how you want it to look. Toomai Glittershine The Ghostbuster 16:13, 4 October 2014 (EDT)
Minor request for Special:Upload...
For this page, attempting to upload certain filenames will cause a warning to pop up, such as IMG and RSBE. Images taken within Smash 4 feature the prefix "HNI_", but attempting to upload such an image does not show the warning; as such, a small update should be made to Special:Upload's algorithm to produce a warning when users attempt to upload an image with that prefix.
That's all.

Strategies for unlocking all the custom moves?
Hey, I have a hunch you've been playing the game since its release and I want to know: Have you developed any strategies for acquiring all the custom specials? I've only recently gotten all of Mario's and that took days. Some forums say that exploiting the roulette using the Home button on the 3DS helps, but I usually end up getting equipment instead of custom specials. Is there a better way? Blue Ninjakoopa 00:53, 8 October 2014 (EDT)
- Lucky you, I need masses of equipment for regression purposes and couldn't care less about all the custom moves I'm getting. Either way, abusing Home as they say is probably the most efficient way to do it, as Trophy Rush is a massive pain in general, and Smash Run is a lot of work for equivalent rewards. My own Smasher page
Aidan the Gamer 19:06, 16 October 2014 (EDT)
- You should refer to the notability criteria for this kind of question. Toomai Glittershine The Producer 19:08, 16 October 2014 (EDT)
- I see. Now, would this classify as notable? I'm sorry if I may be asking stupid questions, I'm just not sure how a school tournament (a high school tournament, for the record) would fit in to that. Aidan the Gamer 19:10, 16 October 2014 (EDT)
- The general rule of thumb here is "assume it's not notable until proven otherwise". One-off tournaments at high schools are unlikely to manage this. Toomai Glittershine The Xanthic 19:17, 16 October 2014 (EDT)

Would it be possible to do any sort of neat bot editing to simplify the move process for Dream Land -> Dream Land (SSB) and Mute City -> Mute City (SSBM)? Miles (talk) 19:45, 22 October 2014 (EDT)
- Might be tricky, but it should be possible. I presume the idea is to assume that all existing links point to the old stages? Toomai Glittershine The Cloronic 19:48, 22 October 2014 (EDT)
- That's the idea. It's not like it's out of the question to do it manually, but it would be less tedious if the workload could be reduced via bot. Miles (talk) 19:50, 22 October 2014 (EDT)
- I think a simple "Dream Land -> Dream Land; Mute City -> Mute City" would be a good start (I suspect it would get 90% of cases). If you move the pages, I'll fire this replace. Toomai Glittershine The Orchestral 20:18, 22 October 2014 (EDT)

- How is "new move type" not universal? Toomai Glittershine The Loony 22:30, 23 October 2014 (EDT)
- Well, because everyone's new move of that type is going to be different. Whereas with something like air-dodge, it works exactly the same for all fighters and doesn't need pointing out for every single one. When it comes to a new move type, each character is going to have their own where a single blanket statement on the game's page really wouldn't do it justice. Is Luigi still a semi-clone of Mario, or not?
Blue Ninjakoopa 19:36, 25 October 2014 (EDT)
- I know you didn't ask me, but I decided to try this out for you. Input and such requested from either party.
- --- Monsieur Crow, Author Extraordinaire, 20:36, 25 October 2014 (EDT)
- (I'm typing this as I think, so it continues changing theories. ---Previously unsigned comment added by you. - You didn't have any arguments on the Clone talk page, only fits of whining. I'm having trouble taking you seriously, and I doubt you think as you type (I doubt you think at all). Also, the example of "pompous and dense" in your text shows in your opening statement ("That's how I work though, so deal with it."). In any of your responses, do you ever plan on proving me wrong?
- That said, the numbers you've presented can't be considered valid; you've accused me of a "bias", then present obviously biased numbers (arbitrary percentage floor of 40%, just to keep Mario and Luigi from being considered semi-clones?). Blue Ninjakoopa 21:05, 25 October 2014 (EDT)
- (I'm typing this as I think, so it continues changing theories. - The purpose of the page was to prevent the lot of you from bothering Toomai. Get a move on~
Yeah BNK you oughta take a chill pill for this topic.
But anyway, yeah okay I'll have a look and see what my input on clone-ness is. Probably it'll end up with me doing my own comparisons. Toomai Glittershine The Riotous 22:37, 25 October 2014 (EDT)
Personal attack?
---Previously unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 21:43, 25 October 2014 (EDT)

Meteor Smashes in SSB4
I would totally make this page, but my computer has a time limit on it...I can definitely get the information needed for this page, but would you mind putting it into the wiki format? You don't have to say yes, but the fact that the page "List of meteor smashes (SSB4)" doesn't exist is kind of bothering me a little. But still, what say you? Would you like to work with me in creating a page? (I know, I may sound like a dork, but still.) Aidan the Gamer 22:45, 26 October 2014 (EDT)
- I mean, sure, information would have to be collected at another time. It *is* pretty late already as it is. Aidan the Gamer 22:46, 26 October 2014 (EDT)
Request for XL
There are some pages and images under Category:Rosalina (SSB4) that need to be recategorized to Category:Rosalina & Luma (SSB4). Can XL do it? Thanks in advance. Berrenta (talk) 12:22, 28 October 2014 (EDT)
- I'm not lifting a finger to help with any move of the sort. Toomai Glittershine The Inconceivable 18:31, 28 October 2014 (EDT)
Unofficial move
Is there any particular reason that doing what I referred to as an "unofficial move" is unacceptable? It's the same result, all it was slightly more work and filling my clipboard temporarily. You just added more work onto it by undoing what I did and then doing it officially. ---Previously unsigned comment added by you. Or maybe Nutta. 13:26, 31 October 2014 (EDT)
- It splits the page history. PikaSamus (talk) 13:27, 31 October 2014 (EDT)
- Yeah, proper moves relocate the history as well, whereas just copy-pasting doesn't. Toomai Glittershine The Spark 13:28, 31 October 2014 (EDT)
Charging SFX for "serious" characters
I'm having trouble figuring out how to describe the new sound effect that's heard when a "serious" character (Mario, Link, Pac-Man, Ganondorf, etc.) charges his or her smash attacks other than with "dunking", which is a strange word to use since it mostly applies to things being submerged in water. Do you have any ideas? Blue Ninjakoopa 22:58, 31 October 2014 (EDT)
- It might not be strictly necessary to describe the sound in one word; perhaps just saying how it's different would be enough. Toomai Glittershine Le Grand Fromage 00:15, 1 November 2014 (EDT)
