Note: I am no longer available to Brawl online, due to a mixture of reasons that I don't have time to discuss. I will alter this if I am available, though I will probably not be in a long time.
Note: I will only be able to Brawl you at certain times, as my availability is variable. My FC is 2579-7589-1533. I am also availabe to play SSB64 online through Project 64K.

However, I WILL be able to play Smash64 online, if anybody here is interested. I play on the "good" connection type.

Default test
I see that you've put some KO percents in the giant punch graphs, i want to discuss a universal testing arena for KO percents, I think it should be a DK since he's so big it'll be easier to test out multiple hitboxes but i cannot decide which stage, Mushroom Kingdom and peaches castle have obstuctions, sector Z, Hyrule castle and Yoshi's island are all too big, Planet Zebes has the obvious hazard and saffron city would be difficult to test on due to obstructions on the right side. The stages that seem to be good to test on would be Dream Land or Congo Jungle but the wind effect on Dream Land would make testing from the center difficult and the slight raise in platforms in congo jungle will be difficult to test something with pure horizontal knockback, what do you think?--<span style="color: green;">Shaun's Wiji Dodo</span> <span style="color: green;">talk</span> 04:46, 22 May 2011 (EDT)

Signature
Hey. You've been on the SmashWiki a long time, and have always been a good contributor, so I think it's about time you got a custom signature. I had some free time, so I made one for you.

To apply it, go into 'My preferences', and copy/paste this data into the signature section. Tick the box saying 'treat this as wikitext' and save changes.

Here's the data;

File Uploads

Are you guys uploading files one by one? It appears so, guess you can't import them. The Multiple Upload extension would be useful. I'm Malake btw, a Metroid Wiki admin from NIWA Malake256 01:10, 29 September 2010 (EDT)

Avoid uploading images like that until Toomai gives the OK for those uploads.--MegaTron1XD:p 21:50, 5 October 2010 (EDT)

He never said anything against it. He only asked us not to upload attack and hitbox images. Mr. Anon (talk) 21:52, 5 October 2010 (EDT)
@Mega: Why? Toomai didn't say anything about those images, so uploading them is fine. Doctor Pain 99 (CTE) 21:54, 5 October 2010 (EDT)
That is correct; I can't do anything to improve the head images, and thus people can upload them. Toomai Glittershine Data Node 07:50, 6 October 2010 (EDT)

Nonononono

Lowercase rule of titles is ONLY when there is NOT an official name. Where official nomenclature exists (i.e. trophies, DOJO, etc.), the title of the article must match in capitalization. This holds for all three of My Music, Master Hand, and Spin Dash. Miles (talk) 17:47, 8 October 2010 (EDT)

heh

i try to be polite but its hard to stay polite when the one youre talking to acts like an elitist who believes they always know better and are always right, that advice is best given to many others on here,as for the grammar...cant be helped,my grammar isnt top notch, hence why i dont edit things myself but rather give suggestionsGig (talk) 07:33, 13 October 2010 (EDT)

The thing is that it's pretty much a fact that the Smash community accepts 1.0 as the damage ratio. I'm not saying it's necessarilly better, but as an encyclopedia for SSB, we must follow what the general smash community accepts as the "default". Mr. Anon (talk) 20:19, 13 October 2010 (EDT)

Ness (ssb)

Before I start, this is an actual quote from the n64 forum that is in the Smash 64 section.

Q: Why is Ness so low on the tier list? A: Ness dropped because his DJC isn't broken due to bad aerial hitboxes, his approach is piddly due to the same reason, he has mediocre grab range and the attacks with passable hitboxes are the ones that don't see much use for one reason or another. Overshadowing all of this is the worst aspect: his recovery, which is absurdly predictable, slow and edgeguardable to a fault by anyone half-decent.

I would like to inform you that your comment referring to the Pro-Con section is not true.

 • I was listing for why Ness was lowered down on the tier list in this format. I was listing pros and cons through the tier list.

Also, I don't know why you put many of the sections as Point of View. Here are some reasons why I believe that your opinion of the smash 64 community's opinion is wrong:

 • I am becoming a member of the smash 64 Backroom soon. One of the members messaged me. I am one of the most active members of the smash 64 community and I was one of the people nominated for mod for this position.
 • I am one of the people who voted on the tier list discussion and my opinions along with many other exactly the same opinions influenced why Ness is so low. We also gave reasoning and this reasoning was why Ness was lowered. This reasoning is what I posted. It wasn't mine but rather the entire smash 64 community.
 • I am one of the posters in the smash 64 community tier list (for moves, recoveries, combos, etc. Some of the things you changed are wrong. Ness is considered to have the worst recovery, not Link.

If you do not realize this, you also added POV back to the article. I'll add a few quotes from your change. The quotes are italicized/bolded for the issues while my responses are normal: *Ness ranks 9th on SSB's tier list for a predictable and at times unreliable recovery, which many foes abuse to their advantage, as well as some range issues. However, he does have a decent amount of combos.

 • Ness is considered to have the most predictable recovery in smash 64. it is why Ness has the worst recovery. It is not considered to be at times.
 • It is considered by the community that it is a fluke whenever Ness recovers vs. a skilled player. It is that bad a recovery.
 • Every single character has massive combos in smash 64 with the exception of DK and Samus. Ness is no exception so this post does not make sense. Also Ness is considered 9th in the combo department ahead only Link, DK, and Samus. Ness is technically not a good combo character.

Ness is a fairly small, light character with very high priority attacks. Ness' special attacks serve a variety of purposes. His neutral and up specials are projectiles, and his down special can absorb energy projectiles. However, his special moves are slow. Ness himself is somewhat slow normally, but his fast roll and certain advanced techniques can help this problem. Ness has the game's lowest Double Jump Cancel and a quick, high priority spike. Ness' grabs and throws are great in speed, range, and power. Ness' moves have great hitstun, which makes Ness very good at combos (including multiple shield break combos). Also among Ness' assets are his powerful side smash which can also reflect projectiles, good juggling capabilities, and excellent range on his down smash.

 • Ness's special attacks serve a variety of purposes: Like what? all of them are punishable and none of them are good for combos. With the exception of ness's down b which can be used for Magnet Cancelling, there is no use for any of them.
 • Hitstun does not make it easier to break shields. The person who posted this is confusing hitstun with shieldstun. The only reason why Ness has a pretty easy time breaking shields is due to DJC but this is dependant on how quick a person's hand is.
 • I already mentioned that Ness doesn't have good combos, he is 9th.
 • The roll post is fine, Ness is tied for the quickest.
 • Ness does have along d-smash but it has massive lag
 • Ness's f-smash is good? It lasts a long time but it has one of the shortest hitbox of all side smashes and has large lag afterwards. It isn't a good smash as the hitbox lasts 4 frames of 48.

I wasn't disagreeing with your information. I was just changing it back because it was agreed a while back that the format for character pages was to have one big "attributes" section rather than simply listing pros and cons. Mr. Anon (talk) 18:21, 24 November 2010 (EST)
If you wish to change it back to the other format, keep the relevant and correct information. That is the bigger issue than changing it to Pros/cons --LoS PPS KoRos (talk) 19:00, 24 November 2010 (EST)
My mistake was that I thought you were just rearanging the current information. You are welcome to add back that info as long as you keep it in encyclopedic style and keep it in one "attributes" section. Mr. Anon (talk) 22:11, 24 November 2010 (EST)

Smash 64 online info, legality, emulators, etc.

Before I begin, I can't make new paragraphs properly without using the lines. Forgot the coding, LOL. Message me if you have any issues. If you want to speak with me, I can talk to you through Smashboards or through AIM (just give me a time to be on).

Legality

Smash 64 online is allowed to be downloaded due to a clause known as the abandonware, also known as the "old" ware and the "unsold" ware clause. It is allowed to be downloaded as well as the emulator as Nintendo does not gain profit off of smash 64 anymore as the game is not sold anymore on the n64. It isn't that this clause is actually valid but rather that Nintendo and the majority of other companies has never pursued anyone downloading an emulator used for abandonware purposes.

Also, owning a copy of either the n64 version or the Wii version makes the download though a lot more valid and a lot less illegal. I personally bought and owned the n64 copy so I am fine in this way as well. I am almost positive that Nintendo knows that these emulators exist as they have been used for a VERY long time and no one has ever been arrested or anything has happened to anyone downloading an n64 smash emulator. Nintendo is rather good with things such as this..lol.

Outside of legalities/the bulk of this

Emulators

1. The most popular online/offline emulator is Project 64k and the most popular ROM used is Super Smash Bros. (U) [!] All downloads can be found at [1]. This is by far the best way to download them now as these emulators are already made to work for all computers.

2. The other popular emulator is Mupen64k and a version of this emulator is used for TAS recordings (called Mupen64k Beta++++). People don't use it as often as it is more taxing on the computer hard-drive.

3. If your computer is a Mac or has Vista, other download sites might not work properly for online as other sites do not have the files needed to make sure it works for these computers. If you have issues, message me. I personally have Vista and I haven't had issues with my emulator since getting the new one here.

4. Project 64k can be used with a keyboard or you can buy an adapter to use any type of controller you want (I personally use keyboard but many people dislike using it.) Keyboard can make certain things easier (inputs are less delay impacted as the button can be hit quicker) but they cannot do certain techniques (mostly certain angled moves such as Pikachu's/Fox's Up B and that you cannot walk..as in you have to dash.) Adapters are usually 10 bucks and can easily be found using Smashboards. Most people who use controllers use the n64, Gamecube, or xbox360 controllers and all of these work well. Do not buy a random online controller from a store as these don't work well.

Online play

1. You cannot play fullscreen online play. It automatically desynches. I personally use a 512 by 384 emulation screen (under options) but my computer isn't that good so you might be able to use a better one.

2. If you have a wireless connection, you will automatically lag online and people probably won't play you nearly as often.

3. If you have Dialup or a really bad internet connection, you'll have issues also. The majority of other connections have 0 lag so you should be fine. If your connection is good enough, close out of AIM or other programs that use the internet while playing to reduce lag. The reason why people play online n64 is due to the connection being that solid.

4. The most popular server is Galaxy 64 (also known as Emulator Grounds Unit X a LONG time ago) found (now) in Chicago. There are many other servers but this server is always crowded (except for very early in the morning/very late at night) and most other servers play games other than n64 smash more. The IP for this server can be found on the same link I showed above under Server Information.

5. If you are in Europe, PM King Funk or Mahie on Smashboards for information.

6. If you want to setup P2P as well (a 2 player smash where the connection is virtually perfect/offline quality) to be able to play people outside of your area with lower delay, message me and I'll try to help with this.

7. People play usually on the LAN/60 Packet connection.

8. Reset the cheats when the emulator starts if you are hosting to prevent desynches.

Online Terminology for New Kailera users

1. P2P: See above, means player to player

2. Connection type: LAN followed by Excellent are the most popular. You cannot start a game with people of a different connection.

3. Input/Connection Delay: Input delay refers to how quick a move comes out after inputting it'. This is determined by server delay (how close you are to a server.) People use LAN as the delay is the lowest (but lower delay can be found on p2p usually). Most people I find have a range between 2 and 6 frame delay on LAN or 3-8 on Excellent unless they are far out of country or have a terrible connection. You can have 0 Input lag and high input delay. Input delay is determined only by how far away you are from a server/if your internet connection lagged while joining it.

4. Input/Connection Lag: This refers to actual visible lag in game (as in the game freezing for a second or 2.) This is a problem that can be avoided by using a wired connection and simply closing out of any other program that uses the internet. Have a good connection and play 60 frame matches with virtually 0 slowdown. As said, you can have 0 lag and high delay.

4. Desynching/dropping packets/lagging out: Desynching refers to losing connection to other people you are playing with. This causes your movements to not be in synch so you SD on their screen and they SD on yours. This is instantly caused by full-screening, minimizing the emulation while the game is loading (usually), and not resetting the cheats per new game (as in each time the game loads the emulator). Desynching is one of the plagues of Kailera but it is relatively rare as long as your connection is OK. It more commonly occurs on a wireless connection and in 4 player matches. Dropping packets is the same as desynching but your connection desynches so hard that your game freezes. Simply exit the game, exit Kailera, exit project 64k, and then re-go into the program. Lagging out is similar to Dropping Packets but it is mostly caused by input lag and not the server and it also causes a freeze.

Community --- 1. I highly recommend joining the Smashboards n64 community (also brawl/melee if you play them as well). You can find good people to practice with as well. I am on there under the name KoRoBeNiKi as similar to here. People can assist you with getting better. But seriously, don't bring up me there as there are a lot of people better than me on there and I just am on a high horse on this site and not nearly as much on there.

2. The Smashboards/Kailera community itself has many internet trolls and there are some jokes you won't get instantly...just to warn you :p

3. You won't get this game instantly. This game has a high separation between good and bad players. Be patient and this game is rewarding as you always have an opportunity to have a fun game with someone. Practice with people and enjoy it.

Tl,dr 1. Get the game. Nintendo doesn't care about abandonware. It is mad fun. Message me with any issues. --LoS PPS KoRos (talk) 12:53, 1 May 2011 (EDT)

The stages that seem to be good to test on would be Dream Land or Congo Jungle but the wind effect on Dream Land would make testing from the center difficult and the slight raise in platforms in congo jungle will be difficult to test something with pure horizontal knockback, what do you think?--Shaun's Wiji Dodo talk Untitled-1 copy.gif 04:46, 22 May 2011 (EDT)

Don't worry, I had this covered :). The KO percents are based off of fighting another DK at the center of Dream Land. Mr. Anon (talk) 14:09, 22 May 2011 (EDT)
