MegaMan.EXE (ロックマン.EXE, Rockman.EXE) is a protagonist of the Mega Man Battle Network sub-series of the Mega Man universe.

Origin[edit]

MegaMan.EXE is a character from the Mega Man Battle Network series of games, an alternate continuity to the "classic" Mega Man games. In this universe, revered scientist Tadashi Hikari creates several breakthroughs in the world of computer science, and his efforts posthumously create a functioning net society. This causes friction with his former friend and rival Dr. Wily, as his efforts in robotics were ignored in favor of Hikari. Tadashi's grandson, Lan Hikari, is now living in the fruits of this labor. This includes his personal NetNavi, named Mega Man. This is actually Lan's twin brother Hub, who was put on to the data of a NetNavi. Their father, Yuichiro Hikari, was already experimenting with downloading humans directly into the net when Hub contracted a terminal illness known as HBD and died shortly after birth. Literally transporting his soul into a digital file was the only way to save him, which is exactly what happened. Lan and MegaMan look exactly alike, except for their eye color, though this feature later became identical to save MegaMan's life. The two make an amazing duo, seeing as they almost never lose a NetBattle. The two have saved humanity on multiple occasions; they have defeated Dr. Wily, who has come out of hiding to destroy the net society and now calls himself Lord Wily, as well as his son, Dr. Regal, time and time again.

In Super Smash Bros. 4[edit]

MegaMan.EXE appears in Super Smash Bros. 4 in three main roles.

Assist role[edit]

MegaMan.EXE once again appears alongside Mega Man during Mega Legends. His appearance remains unchanged, despite the new appearances of Proto Man and Bass alongside him.

As a costume[edit]

A Mii Gunner dressed as MegaMan.EXE.

MegaMan.EXE also returns as a Mii Gunner costume. He is available for purchase as part of Round 5 of Mii Costumes, and appears unchanged from the Smash 4 version of the costume.

Spirit[edit]

MegaMan.EXE also appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a Legend-class primary spirit.

In Adventure Mode: World of Light, MegaMan.EXE is presumably one of the countless spirits captured by Galeem during his takeover of the universe. After Galeem's defeat, Dharkon takes control of Galeem's spirits, including MegaMan.EXE. MegaMan.EXE's spirit is located in the northern area of The Dark Realm.

MegaMan.EXE's Spirit Battle uses three Mega Man puppet fighters and is fought on the Hanenbow stage's Battlefield form. During the battle, the floor is electrified, while the Mega Man fighters each use a neutral or side smash attack, start off with a Bob-omb, or start off with a Beam Sword, each referencing the shooting-type, bomb-type, and sword-type Battle Chip programs that can be installed in the Mega Man Battle Network series.

Trivia[edit]

  • In Super Smash Bros. 4, MegaMan.EXE doesn't wear his mask in battle as he does in Mega Man Battle Network.
  • As part of Mega Legends, MegaMan.EXE is the only Mega Man to have his arm cannon on his right hand. This maintains consistency with his right-facing appearance in the Mega Man Battle Network games.
  • In his reveal teaser for Ultimate, the battle is enacted similarly to his own series with him being on the left, enemy on the right, and neither of them crossing the line.
    • During the battle, he uses the Beam Sword to do a large slash, which is a reference to Life Sword, a powerful attack MegaMan.EXE can use.
