===Super Smash Bros. Melee===
By far the most notable performance of the event was #8 seed Axe's lengthy Losers run. After being upset by #9 seed S2J, Axe went on a seven-set Losers run, eliminating players such as Zain, aMSa, and Plup, before losing to Hungrybox in Grand Finals to place 2nd. Not only did he greatly outplace his seed, but this was Axe's best major performance of his career up to that point, and marked the beginning of what eventually became the best season of his career. Alongside Axe, #4 seed Mang0 also had a lengthy Losers run. After being upset by #61 seed Magi 1-2 (upset factor 8), Mang0 tore through the Losers bracket, which includes defeating iBDW 3-1, SFAT 3-0, Trif 3-1, and S2J 3-1 before losing to aMSa 0-3 to place 5th, falling just one place short of his seed.
Conversely, many other high seeds who were upset early were not as fortunate as the two. Most notably, #5 seed Mew2King was also upset relatively early by #28 seed Trif 2-3 (upset factor 6); however, Mew2King was eliminated immediately after by #16 seed Bananas 2-3 (upset factor 3) to place 33rd, marking the worst placement of his entire Melee career (ignoring forfeits). Several other notable underperformances include #24 seed Shroomed losing to #233 seed JBash 0-2 (upset factor 7) and #56 seed htwa (upset factor 3) 0-2 for 97th, and #15 seed ARMY losing to #242 seed Violence 1-2 (upset factor 8) and #146 seed mvlvchi 0-2 (upset factor 7) for 129th. These results were also the worst placements for both players at a major event.
===Super Smash Bros. Ultimate===
As the first supermajor of the game's competitive play, the singles event featured over 2,000 entrants, becoming the largest Ultimate tournament up to that point, shattering the previous record holder, Umebura SP, by over 1,300 entrants. This record would hold for half a year until EVO 2019 would shatter it as well. Alongside the event's large entrants count, many strong players from around the world were in attendance. Most notable among these international players was Zackray, a prodigy who was a contender for the best player in the world and whose international debut was at this event. Finally, many Melee players also competed in the Ultimate event, including all of the Five Gods aside from PPMD. Most Melee players failed to place higher than 97th, though Leffen had a notable run to 17th, defeating WaDi along the way.
The biggest upsets of the event on a top-level Smash 4 player were on #45 seed Elegant, who lost to #557 seed Geez 1-2 (upset factor 8) and #1,268 seed Gidy 0-2 (upset factor) to place 193rd, marking his worst performance in any Smash game. Other notable Smash 4 players upset fairly early include #14 seed tamim, formerly known as Mistake, who lost to #142 seed Kofi 1-2 (upset factor 7) and #78 seed Seagull Joe 1-2 (upset factor 5) to place 97th; and #31 seed Maister, who lost 1-2 to both #98 NovaPixl and #127 seed Shoe (both upset factor 4) to place 129th, marking the worst placement of his Smash career. Finally, the top 2 seeds both failed to make top 8, with #1 seed Tweek losing to #17 seed ESAM 2-3 (upset factor 8) and #6 seed Dabuz 0-3 (upset factor 4) to place 9th, and #2 seed Nairo losing to #18 seed Cosmos 2-1 (upset factor 7) and #32 seed CaptainZack 1-3 (upset factor 8) to place 17th.
The tournament was ultimately won by the #3 seed MkLeo. After he lost to Samsora 2-3 in Winners Semi-Finals, he was able to claw his way through the Losers bracket, defeating 3-2, Dabuz 3-1, and Samsora in the runback 3-2, before double-eliminating VoiD 3-1 in both sets to win the event. He used a mix of Ike and Lucina throughout his run, and as such this marked the first major wins for both characters, as well as the only major won by an Ike player.
====Seeding Controversy====
A week before the tournament, many people complained about the perceived-low seeding of many players, especially European players such as Glutonny and cyve. Even after GENESIS 6 announced bracket feedback, many still complained that the seeding remained inaccurate. In response to these complaints, Leffen messaged GENESIS 6's seeders, telling them to change the seeds. The insuing discussion resulted in several statements which Leffen found rude or offensive and posted to Twitter. One particular statement from seeder ALT, who said that "if 500 penguins entered a tournament in antarctica and i won it should i be a top 10 seed?", resulted in massive backlash on Twitter, with many complaining to GENESIS 6 to fire their seeders. In response to all this backlash, Bear has stated that he was working on adjusting the seeding, and apologized for the rude behavior some seeders have shown. The seeding was subsequently redone by a new seeding team and ALT was removed from the seeding team in the PGStats discord, though the rest of the original seeding team went on to seed majors such as CEO 2019, EVO 2019, Super Smash Con 2019, The Big House 9, and GENESIS 7 without controversy.
As a result of the drama, the penguins comment became a running joke at the event, with Smashers such as Leffen and Bear changing their profile picture into penguins, and Bear promising to wear a penguin onesie at GENESIS 6. Even Nintendo joined in, with the Nintendo UK VS Twitter account tweeting "Best of luck to all the European Super #SmashBrosUltimate players at @Genesis_Smash this weekend!" with a picture of four King Dededes on Battlefield form Summit.

Tournament summaryEdit
Super Smash Bros.Edit
Super Smash Bros. MeleeEdit
Super Smash Bros. UltimateEdit
After he lost to Samsora 2-3 in Winners Semi-Finals, he was able to claw his way through the Losers bracket, defeating Light 3-2, Dabuz 3-1, and Samsora in the runback 3-2, before double-eliminating VoiD 3-1 in both sets to win the event. He used a mix of Ike and Lucina throughout his run, and as such this marked the first major wins for both characters, as well as the only major won by an Ike player.
Seeding ControversyEdit
A week before the tournament, many people complained about the perceived-low seeding of many players, especially European players such as Glutonny and cyve. Even after GENESIS 6 announced bracket feedback, many still complained that the seeding remained inaccurate. In response to these complaints, Leffen messaged GENESIS 6's seeders, telling them to change the seeds. The insuing discussion resulted in several statements which Leffen found rude or offensive and posted to Twitter. One particular statement from seeder ALT, who said that "if 500 penguins entered a tournament in antarctica and i won it should i be a top 10 seed?",[1] resulted in massive backlash on Twitter, with many complaining to GENESIS 6 to fire their seeders. In response to all this backlash, Bear has stated that he was working on adjusting the seeding, and apologized for the rude behavior some seeders have shown.[2] The seeding was subsequently redone by a new seeding team and ALT was removed from the seeding team in the PGStats discord, though the rest of the original seeding team went on to seed majors such as CEO 2019, EVO 2019, Super Smash Con 2019, The Big House 9, and GENESIS 7 without controversy.
As a result of the drama, the penguins comment became a running joke at the event, with Smashers such as Leffen and Bear changing their profile picture into penguins, and Bear promising to wear a penguin onesie at GENESIS 6.[3] Even Nintendo joined in, with the Nintendo UK VS Twitter account tweeting "Best of luck to all the European Super #SmashBrosUltimate players at @Genesis_Smash this weekend!" with a picture of four King Dededes on Battlefield form Summit.[4]
