Romanizations

It's not particularly necessary to generate Romanizations for Japanese names, since those are easily reproduced by machine translators. Translations are sufficient. Miles (talk) 21:47, 4 November 2014 (EST)

I guess I had a lot of dumb time on my hands I guess. Most of the time I make crappy edits on wikias like with Street Fighter, Koei, BlazBlue etc. :P So no, I didn't expect something like this to be honest. Using the "Show preview" button

Hello, SneaselSawashiro. I see you've been hard at work, especially with the Melee: SD Remix article. However, I have seen many successive edits to the page clogging up the Recent Changes. Instead of making many edits, please try using the "Show preview" button, which is located to the right of the "Save page" button. Using the preview lets you see your current edits while not saving the page, allowing for fewer and longer edits.

Multiple translations

I appreciate that you want to convey a full range of possible renderings of Japanese names for things, but one is usually sufficient for what we're looking for. That Japanese wiki

I'm curious about that Japanese wiki you've been using as a source for names. What's its deal? How big is it userbase-wise? Why does it share our URL? Are we a major source of info for it, or the only source? How long has it been around? What's its source for move names? Does it have equivalents for other games? You know what, I guess you want me to stop using it for basic move names so I better stop right away before shit goes down then I guess. :P Just as a side note though, it seems coincidental in that most of those names seem to match the VERY OLD names used for standard attacks in that one IGN guide for Melee (and by proxy the strategy guide for Melee as well; e.g. Marth's forward smash being called "Dragon Killer"). --SneaselSawashiro (talk) 17:00, 25 July 2016 (EDT)

I typed in "Marth Dragon Killer" in katakana copy-and-pasted from that Smash 4 wiki, and respectively are wikis for the Japanese version of Brawl (X) and Melee (DX/Deluxe). The names are arguably the same though I might need to find other sources to prove this. Marth's Justice Sword and Roy's Flame Sword are examples of standard attacks that have the same unique name in English though. --SneaselSawashiro (talk) 17:11, 25 July 2016 (EDT)

Unlike Miles, I think we should indeed use names for normal attacks whenever the smallest source is available (e.g. the players' guides) (he's the only one who has ever argued the opposite to my memory). But that said it would still be nice to trace things back to a source somewhere that's not a wiki. I know the SSB64 website has names, and the SSBM one does for G&W, but I don't remember seeing anything else myself. Toomai Glittershine The Non-Toxic 09:17, 26 July 2016 (EDT)

Dragon Fang

Why are you so adamant about including a note about the translation of "竜穿" as "Dragon Fang"? We don't particularly need to note every instance of Smash being consistent with translations in the source games. Miles (talk) 23:13, 3 August 2016 (EDT)
