I'm not sure if this is the place to discuss it here, but it's been on my mind for a while since there's A LOT of people who seem to just hate the fact that Sakurai (save for Dr. Mario possibly) threw in clones of characters moveset wise once again.

Romanizations

It's not particularly necessary to generate Romanizations for Japanese names, since those are easily reproduced by machine translators. Translations are sufficient. Miles (talk) 21:47, 4 November 2014 (EST)

Reminder. Miles (talk) 09:38, 6 November 2014 (EST)

Then should I only do so for those in kanji and hiragana? Also, that means we should undo the ones that already have katakana romanizations like Robin/Reflet's Thunder if that's the case. --SneaselSawashiro (talk) 01:37, 7 November 2014 (EST)

THANK YOU

I was worried nobody was going to do the changes! Oh my gosh, thanks man. F0rZ3r0F0r (talk) 06:37, 4 June 2015 (EDT)

I guess I had a lot of dumb time on my hands I guess. Most of the time I make crappy edits on wikias like with Street Fighter, Koei, BlazBlue etc. :P So no, I didn't expect something like this to be honest. Most of the time I expect a "please don't edit this on their next time or you might need to get banned" or something like that. --SneaselSawashiro (talk) 03:39, 5 June 2015 (EDT)

Using the "Show preview" button

Hello, SneaselSawashiro. I see you've been hard at work, especially with the Melee: SD Remix article. However, I have seen many successive edits to the page clogging up the Recent Changes. Instead of making many edits, please try using the "Show preview" button, which is located to the right of the "Save page" button. Using the preview lets you see your current edits while not saving the page, allowing for fewer and longer edits.

That's all. DarkFox01DF01Sig.png, that’s one of ours! 19:28, 4 June 2015 (EDT)

Multiple translations

I appreciate that you want to convey a full range of possible renderings of Japanese names for things, but one is usually sufficient for what we're looking for. Unless the two possible translations are significantly different in meaning, you should try to limit yourself to one. Miles (talk) 18:43, 14 July 2015 (EDT)

...oops. Aw ****. --SneaselSawashiro (talk) 19:29, 14 July 2015 (EDT)

FYI, this wasn't really intended as anything more than a "well, maybe let's try this instead" kind of post. Don't take it as more than that. Miles (talk) 20:55, 14 July 2015 (EDT)

Meh, that's the pitiful limit of my replying. A mere "...." and a curse to go with it. It's a bad habit of mine to take some crap I fumble up a bit too seriously. There's a reason I'm no pro-player at something like Smash or League of Legends lol :P --SneaselSawashiro (talk) 21:30, 14 July 2015 (EDT)

STOP

Please DO NOT use unofficial names for attacks. We've already cleaned this up once. Serpent King (talk) 16:10, 1 August 2015 (EDT)

Okay then I've officially wasted your time like a dumbass --SneaselSawashiro (talk) 16:33, 1 August 2015 (EDT)

That Japanese wiki

I'm curious about that Japanese wiki you've been using as a source for names. What's its deal? How big is it userbase-wise? Why does it share our URL? Are we a major source of info for it, or the only source? How long has it been around? What's its source for move names? Does it have equivalents for other games? Toomai Glittershine ??? Yes, it does seem a bit weird that is has the same URL has us PoultrysigSSB4.pngPoultryPoultrysigSSBM.png(talk) the God-Slayer 09:52, 25 July 2016 (EDT)
You know what, I guess you want me to stop using it for basic move names so I better stop right away before shit goes down then I guess. :P Just as a side note though, it seems coincidental in that most of those names seem to match the VERY OLD names used for standard attacks in that one IGN guide for Melee (and by proxy the strategy guide for Melee as well; e.g. Marth's forward smash being called "Dragon Killer"). --SneaselSawashiro (talk) 17:00, 25 July 2016 (EDT)
Update, http://www13.atwiki.jp/sumaburax/pages/206.html and http://www.wikihouse.com/suma/index.php?%A5%DE%A5%EB%A5%B9(DX) --SneaselSawashiro (talk) 17:11, 25 July 2016 (EDT)
I typed in "Marth Dragon Killer" in katakana copy-and-pasted from that Smash 4 wiki, and respectively are wikis for the Japanese version of Brawl (X) and Melee (DX/Deluxe). The names are arguably the same though I might need to find other sources to prove this. Marth's Justice Sword and Roy's Flame Sword are examples of standard attacks that have the same unique name in English though. --SneaselSawashiro (talk) 17:11, 25 July 2016 (EDT)
Here are the general guides on the latter wiki for the first three games respectively: http://www.wikihouse.com/suma/index.php?%A5%AD%A5%E3%A5%E9%A5%AF%A5%BF%A1%BC%B0%EC%CD%F7%2864%29, http://www.wikihouse.com/suma/index.php?%A5%AD%A5%E3%A5%E9%A5%AF%A5%BF%A1%BC%B0%EC%CD%F7%28DX%29 and http://www.wikihouse.com/suma/index.php?%A5%AD%A5%E3%A5%E9%A5%AF%A5%BF%A1%BC%B0%EC%CD%F7%28X%29 (64, Melee and Brawl). So it would seem most of the prior "unofficial names" are mainly from the Japanese versions, since most Japanese wikis for techniques show their original names a lot more clearly than other sources (even for most normal attacks in other more-traditional fighting games). --SneaselSawashiro (talk) 17:11, 25 July 2016 (EDT)
Unlike Miles, I think we should indeed use names for normal attacks whenever the smallest source is available (e.g. the players' guides) (he's the only one who has ever argued the opposite to my memory). But that said it would still be nice to trace things back to a source somewhere that's not a wiki. I know the SSB64 website has names, and the SSBM one does for G&W, but I don't remember seeing anything else myself. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Non-Toxic 09:17, 26 July 2016 (EDT)

Personal de-clone concepts (Will be gradually updated)

I'm not sure if this is the place to discuss it here, but it's been on my mind for a while since there's A LOT of people who seem to just hate the fact that Sakurai (save for Dr. Mario possibly) threw in clones of characters moveset wise once again.

Here's the list of attacks that will be different for my personal version of most of the characters in Smash, with the Japanese names included JPN source wise:

Lucina:

  • Forward tilt: スイングエッジ, Swing Edge
    • Change Does a single-handed overhead swipe (with following/left arm bent across and raised a bit up) while leaning forward, almost akin to a one-legged crane-stance version of her forward smash (Dragon Killer).
      • Change Hits sooner up above her, but somewhat later compared to the original forward tilt. It still has roughly the same animation speed and recovery however.
  • Up tilt: アンチエアスイング, Anti Air Swing
    • Change Swings upward and inward while standing upright, akin to a more vertical version of her neutral attack's second input (Combination Slash); ironically, the original up tilt was a near-vertical version of her neutral attack (Slash) and forward tilt (Hard Edge).
      • Change Has more vertical range and range that hits behind her, but almost less horizontal range in front. Also has somewhat notable base knockback that makes it a solid combo tool, but the scaling is rather small to prevent it from being a cheap KO tool.
  • Neutral aerial: ダブルスイング, Double Swing
    • Change Slashes inward diagonally upward, then outward-upward both in a criss-cross. Has much better vertical range that allows her to control space in front of her, but lacks the turn around from her original neutral aerial's (Double Slash) second hit, thus it has no hitbox behind her directly other than a bit above on both hits (akin to the ending hitbox of Upper Swing, the original back aerial).
  • Down aerial: ワイドムーン, Wide Moon
    • Change Merely a different Japanese name for the Smash 4 down aerial she keeps (while Marth retains the original Half Moon down aerial from Melee and Brawl). Further sets both Lucina and Marth apart in not only she slashes with more grace, but she has her down aerial hit later in trade of not needing a sweetspot.
  • Back aerial: ストレートスイング, Straight Swing
    • Change A backwards version of her forward aerial (Flag Cut), which hits sooner above, but hits later below her.

Will add more as I go on. --SneaselSawashiro (talk) 23:26, 28 July 2016 (EDT)
