This is the list of known changes in version 1.0.4 of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. All claims on this page must be verifiable, preferably with a trustable source link, and must compare both the old and new states. Ensure that all changes are also listed on the respective pages.
General
- For vertical knockback Directional influence has been reverted to its Melee/Brawl form, where holding perpendicular to an attack's knockback results in the most trajectory change, and holding towards or against the knockback has no effect. Vectoring still applies for horizontal knockback.
- DACUS has been removed, making Up Smashes slightly less versatile.
Bowser
- Self-destructs using Flying Slam now KO Bowser first instead of the opponent. When Bowser is KO'd, the opponent is released from the grab, potentially allowing them to recover back onto the stage.
- Certain properties of Fire Breath have been adjusted.
Giga Bowser
- What appears to be ending lag on most ground attacks has been removed.
Bowser Jr.
- Down throw now does 7.5% damage instead of 8%.
- It also does eight hits, down from ten.
Captain Falcon
- Some hitbox data has been adjusted.
Charizard
- Five frames of intangibility have been added to Charizard's head in certain situations.
- Dragon Rush (Side-B Custom 3) now does 11% damage instead of 15%.
- Some properties of what appear to be the headbutt in Rock Hurl and Flamethrower have been adjusted.
Dark Pit
- Some hitbox data has been adjusted.
Diddy Kong
- Range at end of rapid jab: 4 → 5
- Fixed bug where Diddy could use Peanut Popgun to cancel hitstun.
- Certain special attack properties have been removed and adjusted.
Dr. Mario
- Forward aerial knockback (early/late): 85 → 95
- Forward air knockback (clean): 95 → 102
- Damage of Down Air loop: 1.568% → 1.904%
- Down aerial can only hit the target 5 times instead of 7 times.
Duck Hunt
- An additional hitbox, which does 2% damage, has been added to Up Smash.
Falco
- Blaster can shoot faster.
- Landing hit of Forward Air does 5% damage, up from 2%.
- Fixed Void Reflector failing to reflect Timber properly.
- Certain hitbox properties of Landmaster have been changed.
Ganondorf
- Landing lag on all air attacks has been reduced.
- Aerial version of Flame Choke can no longer be teched.
Greninja
- Shadow Sneak has less ending lag.
- Shadow Sneak's shadow travels faster.
- Down smash damage (swords): 11% → 13%
- Down smash damage (arms): 9% → 11%
- Lag after first hit of Up Smash: 17 frames → 15 frames
- Next-to-last hit of Up Air radius: 5.5 → 6.2
- Down smash knockback growth: 93 → 90
- The ending lag of Water Shuriken is increased.
- Hydro Pump has a weaker push effect.
- Due to the removal of DACUS, the up smash is a more situational attack.
- Radius of Up Smash's first hit: 6.5 → 5
- Damage of Up Smash's final hitbox: 11% → 10%
- Damage of second hit of Up Smash(sourspot): 13% → 11%
- Shadow Sneak knockback growth: 100 → 102(regular)/101(reverse)
- Forward air knockback growth: 92 → 84
- Final hit of Up Air knockback growth: 190 → 168
- Angle of next-to-last hit of Up Air: 166 → 85
- Fixed bug where Greninja could cancel landing lag with Shadow Sneak.
Ike
- The frames on the third jab is reduced, making all three hits for his neutral jab connect more reliably.
- Forward air's animation is much faster overall.
- Forward air's hitboxes are also about 10% larger.
- Down tilt now does 8% damage instead of 7%.
- Down tilt also has slightly reduced ending lag.
- Down air has a larger hitbox.
- Back air does 14% damage as opposed to 13%.
- Down tilt has slightly reduced range
- Down smash has a more horizontal knockback.
- The move now knocks the opponent vertically instead of horizontally.
- Some of the hitboxes in Great Aether are now 24% further away from Ike.
King Dedede
- Forward aerial damage: 13% → 12%
- Down throw angle: 70 → 80
- Down throw knockback scaling: 60 → 82
- Minimum Gordo reflection damage: 3% → 2%
- All Gordo hitboxes are smaller in radius by 0.4 units.
- Characters can airdodge out of and escape Dedede Burst.
Kirby
- Copy abilities whose base character's neutral special was altered by the patch have been altered in the same way.
- Many behaviors, such as Stone and its custom variants and Final Cutter, have been adjusted.
Jigglypuff
- The instant reversal glitch of Rollout is removed.
Link
- First hit of forward smash has significantly reduced knockback. This causes it to more easily set up the second hit, but the first hit can no longer KO at any percentage.
Little Mac
- Hit 2 of neutral attack damage: 3% → 2%
- Hit 3 of neutral attack damage: 8% → 7%
- Aerial Jolt Haymaker has less horizontal reach.
- Forward tilt's hitbox is slightly closer to Little Mac.
- Neutral Air SDI multiplier: 1 → 2
Lucario
- Extreme Speed possesses more landing lag.
- Extreme Speed/Extreme Speed Attack hit 2 ending lag (frames): 0 → 8
- Extreme Speed Attack hit 1 ending lag: 0 → 5
Lucina
- First hit of jab has severely weakened knockback.
Luigi
- Forward smash damage: 14% → 15%
- Forward smash side angle: 55 → 53
- Down smash angle: 70 → 60
- Down smash knockback scaling: 80 → 100
- Forward aerial hand hitbox radius: 4.8 → 5.6
- Order of hitboxes of forward aerial reversed (no practical effect).
- Super Jump Punch (default) ground sweetspot radius: 1.6 → 1.7
- Super Jump Punch (default) ground sweetspot z-offset: 6.1 → 7.0
- Super Jump Punch (default) air sweetspot radius: 2.1 → 2.2
- Super Jump Punch (default) air sweetspot z-offset: 4.7 → 5.5
Mario
- Up tilt deals less damage (6.3% → 5.5%), but the slight knockback decrease the damage reduction brings makes it slightly easier to followup at high percentage.
Mega Man
- Leaf Shield can be acted out of sooner.
- Fixed bug where Mega Man could use Rush Coil to cancel hitstun.
Meta Knight
- Neutral aerial deals 10% damage sweetspotted and 7.5% sourspotted instead of 7% sweetspotted and 5% sourspotted.
- Dimensional Cape now sends opponents in a more horizontal angle and it can KO sooner.
- Back aerial knockback growth: 180 → 212
- Forward throw now deals 9% damage to all opponents instead of only dealing 3% to most opponents.
- Possibly as a cause of the aforementioned change, Forward Throw has gained an additional two hitboxes, dealing 6% damage each.
- Back throw deals slightly more knockback.
- The hitboxes of up aerial and down aerial are about 12% and 44% farther away from Meta Knight, respectively.
- The second hit of forward aerial is no longer the autolink angle, meaning it can't be used to drag opponents downward.
- The sword trails of up aerial and down aerial attacks match the hitboxes better.
Mii Brawler
- Omega Blitz's damage has been reduced from 45% to 42%.
Mii Swordfighter
- Certain hitbox properties have been adjusted.
Mr. Game & Watch
Ness
- Ending lag of PK Thunder 2 is increased
- Down throw damage reduced from 9% to 7%.
- Fixed glitch where down throw not does proper damage to Mr. Game and Watch.
Olimar
- Pikmin Pluck can no longer be edge cancelled.
- Pikmin Throw (default) RYB latch damage: 1.3 → 1.1
- Pikmin Throw (default) W latch damage: 2.6 → 3.7
- Pikmin Throw (all variations) latch time increased.
Pac-Man
- Up Smash possesses more ending lag.
- Bonus Fruit's Galaxian deals 9% damage instead of 11%
- It now takes 13% damage to launch Fire Hydrant instead of 12%.
- Power Pellet now heals 2% instead of 1%.
Palutena
- Up tilt and down tilt can be interrupted earlier.
- Up Smash hitbox length: 23 frames → 27 frames
Peach
- Fixed "instant turnip pull" glitch, which allowed Peach to interrupt the pulling animation by sliding off an edge.
- Fixed "float-cancelling vegetable toss", which allowed Peach to interrupt a floated aerial's landing lag with an item throw.
- Fixed how aerials performed while floating would not affect the stale moves queue.
Pikachu
- Thunder is now a single projectile instead of a stream of four separate projectiles, meaning it cannot be absorbed four times (by Oil Panic, for example.)
- Skull Bash knockback growth: 60 → 62
- Forward Smash (early) knockback growth: 65 → 73
- Forward Smash (late) knockback growth: 100 → 102
- Thunder (blast) knockback growth: 62 → 66
Robin
- Robin can now grab edges from behind during Elwind.
- Fixed how using Thoron in the air would refresh Robin's double jump.
- Fixed footstool glitch allowing infinite.
- The second hit of Robin's jab has been adjusted.
Rosalina & Luma
- Luma respawn time: 8 seconds → 13 seconds
- Lumas can no longer attack if Rosalina is being thrown (though it still can during grabs).
- Down tilt timing: hits on 4-8 → hits on 5-8
- Down tilt hitbox 1 radius: 3.5 → 3.2
- Down tilt hitbox 2 radius: 3 → 2.5
- Forward smash knockback scaling: 115 → 111
- Up smash knockback scaling: 100 → 90
- Up smash hitbox 0 radius: 5.0 → 4.0
- Luma up smash hitbox radius: 4.0 → 5.5
- Luma up smash late hit damage: 4% → 5%
- Neutral aerial damage: 6% (early), 10% (late) → 5% (early), 7.5% (late)
- Neutral aerial hitbox radii: 5.0, 3.5 → 4.2, 3.0
- Neutral aerial hitbox x-offsets: 4.5, -1.5 → 3.0, -2.0
- Forward aerial loop hit base knockback: 20/35 → 55
- Forward aerial last hit base knockback: 60 → 50
- Forward throw base knockback: 85 → 76
- Back throw base knockback: 70 → 60
- Distance of uncharged Luma Shot is reduced by about 2/3.
- Lumas move faster when summoned from a distance.
Samus
- Internal changes have been made regarding the timing of Bomb; This does not appear to affect gameplay.
Sheik
- Forward aerial damage reduced from 6.8% to 5.5% (sweetspot) and 6% to 4.8% (sourspot).
- Up aerial hits one less time and does 7% damage instead of 8%.
- Up air knockback growth: 166 → 138
- Bouncing Fish knockback growth: 100 → 90
- Bouncing Fish base knockback: 30 → 26
Shulk
- Many attacks deal 1% more damage and have slight knockback increases.
- Shulk now only takes 1.13x damage during Buster instead of 1.20x.
- Speed has a damage value of x0.80 instead of x0.72
- Forward aerial's landing lag has been slightly decreased.
- Down-tilt no longer has the blind spot at point blank.
- The first hit of Shulk's forward smash has weaker knockback, making it easier to connect with the second hit.
- Up smash connects more reliably.
Sonic
- Ending lag of Forward smash increased.
- Spring Jump can now be re-used if Sonic is grabbed mid-air after using it.
Toon Link
- Removed a bug where he can cancel the aerial lag with the Bomb.
Wario
- Change to DI system results in removal of "wectoring", a glitch allowing Wario to rocket back onstage just after being able to act after knockback.
- Wario's uniquely high aerial friction no longer applies when grab released, meaning characters can no longer combo him out of a release.
Wario Man
- An as-of-yet unknown action has been sped up from two frames to one frame.
Wii Fit Trainer
- Airdodge landing lag standardized from 12 frames to 22.
- Properties of forward air have been modified.
Yoshi
- Fixed a glitch that allowed Yoshi to execute a super high High Jump immediately after using Yoshi Bomb.
- Fixed a glitch which allowed Yoshi to teleport back to an edge after using his up special.
- Fixed the "Giant Yoshi Glitch", which allowed characters to grow to ridiculous sizes in Multi-Man mode.
- He can no longer slide on slopes with Yoshi Bomb.
- Start-up lag of Egg Lay has been increased.
- Landing lag of down air is increased.
- Dash attack has slightly more ending lag.
- In certain situations, Yoshi has gained five frames of partial intangibility.
Zelda
- Up tilt damage increased from 6.5% to 7.2%.
Zero Suit Samus
- Air dodge landing lag standardized from 15 frames to 22.
- Uncharged Paralyzer has a few more recovery frames.
- Up smash startup: 8 frames → 10
- Up smash first hitbox length: 1 frame → 2
