The following contains a list of unlockables a player can obtain in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Unlockable characters

After meeting the unlock character or playing the required number of vs. matches, the character must be defeated in a 1-stock match on a specific stage.

Trophies

Event matches

Event matches are unlockable by completing other events, the only exception being the starter events: “The Original Heavyweights”, located in the center of the solo events screen, and “A Lurking Menace”, located in the top-left corner of the group events screen. Hidden routes have an additional requirement: players must unlock a specific character (or, in the case of The Ultimate Battle, all characters) to reveal a hidden route.

Special moves

The custom special moves for Palutena and the Mii Fighters are available from the start, and others are available randomly, with the following exceptions:
