A stage based on the original 1989 Game Boy will appear in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. Apparently, turning on the Nintendo 3DS's 3D feature will make it look like there is a Game Boy inside the screen.
Trivia
- The Pic of the day from August 8, 2014 that features the monochrome Kirby and King Dedede costumes is likely a reference to Kirby's Dream Land, which debuted on the system. Incidentally, the Super Smash Bros. and Kirby series were also directed by Masahiro Sakurai.
- Additionally, the Miiverse caption for the aforementioned picture references the Game Boy start-up sequence jingle.
- This is the third stage in the series based entirely on a handheld, the first two being Flat Zone and Flat Zone 2.
