Maryland/Virginia, abbreviated as MD/VA, is a Smash region located in the United States. The term includes the U.S. states of Maryland and Virginia, as well as the District of Columbia; some definitions include the states of Delaware and West Virginia (although these states both have very small Smash communities). While most of the region's activity is centered on the Washington and Baltimore metropolitan areas, other centers of activity exist in Richmond and other parts of southern Virginia. Neighboring regions include the Tristate Area, North Carolina, and Pittsburgh/Northeast Ohio.
Maryland/VirginiaMaryland/Virginia, abbreviated as MD/VA, is a Smash region located on the East Coast of the United States. The term includes the U.S. states of wikipedia and wikipedia, as well as the wikipedia; some definitions include the states of wikipedia and wikipedia (although these states both have very small Smash communities). While most of the region's activity is centered on the wikipedia, which straddles the border between the two states, other centers of activity exist in Richmond and other parts of southern Virginia. Neighboring regions include the Tristate Area (particularly the Philadelphia metro area), North Carolina, and Pittsburgh/Northeast Ohio.

MD/VA has long been one of the busiest and most important Smash regions in the United States. As the home of Azen, ChuDat, Chillin, and more of Melees most famous old school players, the region was considered one of the strongest in the pre-Brawl era, frequently competing with the Tristate Area and Southern California. Crews like Ha Ha You Lose, Power Underwhelming, and Team Ben hosted many large tournaments, such as Game Over and BOMB 4, that were among the most important grassroots events nationwide, helping to significantly develop the Melee tournament scene. After Brawls release, as players like Azen became inactive in the community, MD/VA lost of much of its strength relative to the other regions, but was still famous as the home of the Pound series, one of the most important national tournament series of the era. The region's national presence further declined following the failure of Pound V and the collapse of the series. However, it regained its foothold on the national stage with the introduction of the Super Smash Con series in 2015, as well as the return of Pound in 2016; this has given MD/VA the distinction as one of the only regions with more than one supermajor per year. Maryland/Virginia also hosts Xanadu, one of the most famous weekly locals series in the nation, and is the home of VGBootCamp, the largest Smash-dedicated streaming channel.

After Brawls release, as players like Azen became inactive in the community, MD/VA lost of much of its strength relative to the other regions, but was still famous as the home of the Pound series, one of the most important national tournament series of the era. The region's national presence further declined following the failure of Pound V and the collapse of the series. However, it regained its foothold on the national stage with the introduction of the Super Smash Con series in 2015, as well as the return of Pound and the beginning of the Glitch series in 2016; this has given MD/VA the distinction as one of the few regions with more than one supermajor per year. Maryland/Virginia also hosts Smash @ Xanadu, one of the most famous weekly locals series in the nation, and is the home of VGBootCamp, the largest Smash-dedicated streaming channel. Finally, although still overall weaker compared to the strongest regions in the United States, the scene eventually saw the rise of many strong players, including Junebug, WaDi, and Zain.

Super Smash Bros. Melee
The region took a hit following the Cancellation of Smash World Tour 2022, which severely affected VGBootCamp and led to the conclusions of the Glitch and Pound series. The bans, retirement, and inactivity of several of MD/VA's best Ultimate players also left their Ultimate scene significantly weaker than in previous games. Nevertheless, Super Smash Con, later rechristened as Supernova, remains the region's largest event each year, albeit often their only notable open event of the year.

Maryland/Virginia, abbreviated as MD/VA, is a Smash region located on the East Coast of the United States. The term includes the U.S. states of Maryland and Virginia, as well as the District of Columbia; some definitions include the states of Delaware and West Virginia (although these states both have very small Smash communities). While most of the region's activity is centered on the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area, which straddles the border between the two states, other centers of activity exist in Richmond and other parts of southern Virginia. Neighboring regions include the Tristate Area (particularly the Philadelphia metro area), North Carolina, and Pittsburgh/Northeast Ohio.

MD/VA has long been one of the busiest and most important Smash regions in the United States. As the home of Azen, ChuDat, Chillin, and more of Melee's most famous old school players, the region was considered one of the strongest in the pre-Brawl era, frequently competing with the Tristate Area and Southern California. Crews like Ha Ha You Lose, Power Underwhelming, and Team Ben hosted many large tournaments, such as Game Over and BOMB 4, that were among the most important grassroots events nationwide, helping to significantly develop the Melee tournament scene. After Brawl's release, as players like Azen became inactive in the community, MD/VA lost of much of its strength relative to the other regions, but was still famous as the home of the Pound series, one of the most important national tournament series of the era.
