Alongside other games, it featured a Super Smash Bros. Melee superregional and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U major, becoming the first MLG event to run Smash 4. It is the 100th overall MLG tournament, including tournaments that did not feature Smash games. Notably, this tournament was the end of ZeRo's 56-tournament win streak at Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. It also marks the third time a Luigi main has made Top 8 in a Melee national, and the first time a Luigi other than Abate has done so.
