It was a free-to-enter tournament (outside of venue fees) to commemorate 2GGaming's achievements throughout 2016, which include a 10,000 subscribers milestone on YouTube, the most-viewed channel on Twitch at a time and one of the top 10 largest Smash Wii U tournaments of all time, that being 2GGT: Abadango Saga.
