The Show Preview button
Hello, Smashedpotatoes, and welcome to SmashWiki. I see you've been working on some SSB4-related character pages, but you have been making multiple small edits in quick succession. One thing you can do to avoid clogging the recent changes page is to use the "Show Preview" button while editing. This button is immediately to the right of the "Save page" button in the bottom of the editing tool. Use "Show Preview" to look through your edits and check for any errors or spots where you may want to add more.
Now knowing this tool, you have the ability to increase your editing skills further. Kind regards, DarkFox01If I go down, I’m taking you with me! 19:03, 28 July 2015 (EDT)
Gotcha. Sorry about that, I will do that for future edits! Smashedpotatoes (talk) 19:57, 28 July 2015 (EDT)
SW:1RV
If someone reverts your edit, you are not supposed to revert back. There's a reason for it, and a discussion should be held on the talk page instead of edit warring. I will be reverting Alternate costume back to Aidan's version. Serpent King (talk) 18:48, 22 August 2015 (EDT)
What is trivia?
Trivia, as defined by Oxford, is:
“ | Details, considerations, or pieces of information of little importance or value. | ” |
—Oxford |
Or, alternatively:
“ | Unimportant matters, trivial facts or details | ” |
—Merriam-Webster |
SW:TRIVIA also outlines what trivia is here. Some trivia is blatantly obvious, sure (for example, saying "Bowser has some of the strongest attacks ever" would be obvious), but there are others that are interesting to know (for example, saying "Bowser's forward smash in Smash 4 is the second strongest forward smash in the series in terms of knockback" would be interesting). Aidan, Master of Speed and Aura 15:44, 10 September 2015 (EDT)
Thing is, that trivia point is highly uninteresting. Like, there's no problem with the others, it's just that one. There comes a point when trivia is just so trivial and uninteresting that it just shouldn't be there, like that one. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 16:43, 10 September 2015 (EDT)
We could come up with a reasonable compromise. Do the silhouette images show the characters frozen? If so, something like "likely due to the attacks freezing the characters" or something could be added at the end of the prior bullet point. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 16:51, 10 September 2015 (EDT)
I looked it up and they do, so I made the change, if you don't like it, tell me. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 16:58, 10 September 2015 (EDT)
- I'm fine with that. Aidan, Master of Speed and Aura 18:55, 10 September 2015 (EDT)
Alternate Costume Page
Hi, I noticed you have been making tons of edits on different sections of the Alternate costume (SSB4) page. I'd suggest that you'd edit the entire page by clicking on the "edit this page" button at the top and edit every section in one edit instead of editing section by section. This will not clog up the "Recent changes" page. If you have trouble keeping track of your edits when editing an entire page, edit one or two sections, then wait a while before editing another section, thanks. ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) is a never lover boy 21:59, 13 September 2015 (EDT)
- This is tolerable, actually. If someone's not confident in making a big edit to a huge page, it's acceptable to edit section-by-section with little pause in between. Toomai Glittershine The Labbie 22:36, 13 September 2015 (EDT)
- Not to mention for a large page like that, it can be overwhelming to edit all at once. I'd much rather scan it all little by little and see what I need to edit then submit, as opposed to doing the entire thing at once, which carries a risk of me losing all my changes if something screws up on my browser or computer. Like I was confident in deleting a bunch of excess stuff off that page yesterday all at once because I knew what I was doing, but little things that needed tweaking require more time and a careful, thorough examination of the material. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 22:47, 13 September 2015 (EDT)
- I was actually notified for something like this once. ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) is made in America 22:57, 13 September 2015 (EDT)
- When I was writing this, I was editing by section too, and like potato here, I did edits at night when there were very few people online. It's not disruptive if no one is there to be disturbed by it. Serpent∞King (talk) 23:01, 13 September 2015 (EDT)
- Yeah, what Serpent said is true. I wonder why it's an issue. Maybe of memory, or the inconvenience of seeing a flood of edits on the Recent Changes page just for one page? Smashedpotatoes (talk) 23:03, 13 September 2015 (EDT)
- Maybe it was the time when we had five matches in a single Smash Arena round. We were told to vote for multiple matches in one edit, then I had the habit of trying to edit an entire page. ZeldaStarfoxfan2164 (talk) is a never lover boy 23:06, 13 September 2015 (EDT)

Now, let me explain myself...
I am in no way upset with you. It's just been a rough day for me, I'm tired, and I just can't deal with more bullshit right now. I apologize for possibly coming off as rude, but I want to make it clear that you are not the cause of it. Aidan, Master of Speed and Aura 23:52, 14 September 2015 (EDT)
- Don't worry about it dude. I know we butt heads a lot. I mean no offense to you either. Take a break, cool off, and come back later. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 23:54, 14 September 2015 (EDT)
- You alright man? Serpent∞King (talk) 23:56, 14 September 2015 (EDT)
- Shit's just been goin down. I just need rest, at this point. It's 11 PM my time. Aidan, Master of Speed and Aura 23:58, 14 September 2015 (EDT)
- Get rest then. I get super grumpy when I'm tired too. In fact, I'm starting to get tired right now myself. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 23:59, 14 September 2015 (EDT)
A proper explanation
Forgive me for reviving a (somewhat) dead topic, but, now that I am more awake and less grumpy, I think I should give a better explanation regarding the events of last night, as I feel my evidence was a bit vague.
The reason it should stay in one bullet instead of being split is because, when reading the first part of it, it needs an explanation to back it up, which is where the second part (the part you wanted to separate from it) comes in. If they're split, then it's just giving information, with no reasoning as to why it's trivia in the first place.
Is this a much better explanation? Aidan, Master of Speed and Aura 09:02, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
- That's pretty much what I was aiming for there last night. Although I disagree that they cannot be split. Nevertheless...
- The thing is, is that the stage being announced three days after SMM's release doesn't suffice as an explanation as well as the fact of SMM being released "less than three weeks" prior to the stage's release. A release is much more important than an announcement. That's when a game actually releases. The date it gets released is the release date. Blah blah blah. That's the logic here. The announcement date just isn't as important, or as pertinent to the trivia point here.
- So it's an issue of logic here. So SMM is the most recently-represented game. Cool. Why? The game released three weeks prior to the stage's release. The date of stage's reveal is not relevant when compared to the date of the stage's release. Hope you understand this dude. Let me know what you think. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 12:56, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
- Let's delve further into this. Let's say it's like, June 26, 2015, the day after Wooly World's release. Wooly World is the most recently-represented game in Smash. Why is that so? It's not because the stage was announced November 4, 2014. It's because just yesterday, June 25th, 2015, it was released. It has a representation in the form of a stage and music in Smash. This release was just yesterday, and since there are no other games that have representation in Smash that have released since Wooly World here, we can conclude that that it's the most recently-represented game in Smash. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 13:06, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
Personally, I disagree with mentioning the dates at all, as the Splatoon costumes were announced and released earlier compared to their game. I'm fine with still referring to Super Mario Maker as the most recent game to receive representation in Smash 4, though. Nyargleblargle (Talk · Contribs) 15:48, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
Honestly I'm fine with just leaving it as saying it's the most recently-represented game in Smash 4 as well. I mean, if people are so curious, they can look up specifics elsewhere. We don't have to spell everything out for anyone. But my point is that logically, the date the stage is announced does not explain the game being the most recently-represented game in Smash 4. So we don't need to include that at all in that trivia point. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 15:53, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
- Ok, I'll admit that mentioning the stage release date compared to SMM's release is better than the reveal to the release. I was just making a better argument as to why the information should have been kept in the first place.
- With that being said, however, I don't plan on adding information back
cuz SW:1RV existsbecause I feel the information, as it stands now, works better. Aidan, Master of Speed and Aura 16:01, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
- Ok good. I feel that way as well. I'm glad we could come a conclusion, and that you understand the logic. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 16:04, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
SW:1RV
Read it. Follow it. I'm done. Serpent∞King (talk) 03:34, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
As if you followed that yourself. I also don't know why you defend dumb edits. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 03:36, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
Especially since you've shown to be smarter than that. I don't get it... Smashedpotatoes (talk) 03:37, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
I have had enough of your BS. You cannot simply undo edits based on opinion. My breach of 1RV is admitted, but yours tallies up. You've done it multiple times and I am growing very annoyed. Serpent∞King (talk) 03:39, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- As a side note, I looked up the master hand trivia and saw that it indeed needed removed, so I agree with you there Serpent∞King (talk) 03:42, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
You're undoing edits on opinion as well. And I'm not giving you BS. Pretty much all disputes I've given reason and logic. Sometimes these reasons include whatever was deleted being stupid and/or uninteresting. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 03:41, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
I also don't get why you're so annoyed. Do you really think a trivia talking about how the first 2-3 letters of a characters'/clones' names are similar is actually notable/interesting? Like, really, you're defending that? I don't get it, there's no BS on my end here. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 03:46, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- "no" is not reason or logic, sorry. That's the biggest problem I have with Mario and Marth Serpent∞King (talk) 03:47, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
I just explained myself and you're just going to cling onto me saying "no?" How stupid is that? Smashedpotatoes (talk) 03:48, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- See there you go! It's not the edits themselves, it's the way you are presenting them, as if your opinion is the only one that matters, even over those who have been here for way longer. Also the way you handle disputes sickens me. Serpent∞King (talk) 03:49, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
That's cool. You really think I think that my opinion is the only one that matters? I've seen those points undone by several people (I think Miles actually did it at one point as well) so you can't say that. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 03:50, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- nonono you think your opinion is the only one that matters. Serpent∞King (talk) 03:53, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
Also, they did it for the same reasons as well: it's insignificant. I'm beginning to think you're undoing my edits because you think I'm arrogant or something, not because you're following logic, but that's just a guess. See, I don't know everything. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 03:52, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- That would be correct. Serpent∞King (talk) 03:53, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
See you can hurl accusations all you want, make assumptions all you want. I've been wrong before, but honestly, I don't see why you think that these two edits are wrong. Like, I don't get it. It's been made before for reasons. Like, I follow reason. Don't get it. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 03:56, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- I don't, I think the way you are going about it is wrong. I have reverted my edits on both pages for the purpose of not harming the wiki over my own squabble. Serpent∞King (talk) 03:58, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
So you think that me giving "no" for a reason is wrong? Do you really think that's harmful? When it's something that obviously needs to be changed, that's usually what I put, but you know I guess you're the only one here thinking it's arrogant. I don't mean to come off that way, honestly. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 04:00, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
If anything, I'm trying to come across as a little funny. But if it's coming across as arrogant, I apologize, I don't mean it. I'll stop doing that if need be. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 04:02, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
If you have a problem with me and/or how I give reasons, see my talk page first instead of undoing edits... Smashedpotatoes (talk) 04:04, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
Hey, everyone, am I an ass?
For saying "no" when I remove content that obviously needs to be removed? Do you see it as mean, arrogant, or condescending? Because I mean it in a humorous way, but if it's coming across wrong, then I'll by all means stop. I mean I actually should be giving good edit summaries. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 04:07, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- No I lost my cool and I'm sorry. You should try to improve your dispute skills though. Serpent∞King (talk) 04:11, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- It's really the last thing I needed this late at night, but I forgive you. How can I improve my dispute skills? Smashedpotatoes (talk) 04:14, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- Work on giving your opinion without implying that it's fact. Serpent∞King (talk) 04:17, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- So explaining my reasoning, rather than coming across as dismissive of everything/everyone else. In regards to summaries or the squabble we just had here? I was assuming that people would know those trivia points were stupid, but I guess I shouldn't assume that either...Smashedpotatoes (talk) 04:18, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- On a side note, I feel that here, you shouldn't need to say that your opinion is an opinion. If what is said is coming from another user, why not assume it's an opinion from the getgo? Smashedpotatoes (talk) 04:22, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- To separate the user's stance from their evidence. Nyargleblargle (Talk · Contribs) 09:20, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- Also, I apologize for being a dick with the laughing at your undoing of edits and the like. I haven't been in the best mood today and seeing that, I didn't really care how I came across there. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 04:25, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- Work on giving your opinion without implying that it's fact. Serpent∞King (talk) 04:17, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
"omfg staaaahhhhhhpppp" is hardly a useful edit summary. I understand a reasonable degree of humor and/or frustration is involved, but it comes across as rather childish. It would be somewhat beneficial if you could attempt a slightly more serious tone, especially in the case of an edit that was going back and forth for a while. Miles (talk) 01:22, 29 September 2015 (EDT)
Debatable. Although, it wasn't really intended to be useful in the first place. Could've gone with or without a summary and coulda been fine, but I went with neither out of spite. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 02:20, 29 September 2015 (EDT)
Although I agree that it maybe woulda been best not to do so in the case of an edit going back and forth like that one. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 02:25, 29 September 2015 (EDT)
What you're saying is pretty reasonable. Tell you what - I'll drop the childish-sounding Internet lingo/slang, but keep the sass. Sound good? Smashedpotatoes (talk) 02:40, 29 September 2015 (EDT)
- Try, as you are able, to make your edit summaries something that other editors will not find either objectionable or irritating. That's what I'm asking. Wikis are a collaborative effort and users should contribute in such a way that other users want to continue to work with them. Miles (talk) 02:45, 29 September 2015 (EDT)
Simple enough, thanks for letting me know. Smashedpotatoes (talk) 02:46, 29 September 2015 (EDT)
