Using Show Preview

Hello, 1337 B33FC4K3/Archive 1, I see that you have made several consecutive edits to the same page. I want to point out the Show Preview button. It's right next to the Save Page button when you edit. You should use it whenever you are making a lot of experimental edits, for example when you are trying to get formatting right. Using the Show Preview button is quicker and easier than saving and clicking "edit" again, and will keep Recent Changes and page histories from being flooded. Not really. The Shine in PM is just as potent as it is in Melee, its just that some of Brawl's inherent "floatiness" remains so it looks like it's less effective.

Falco VS Snake Matchup Discussion?

As I seem to be late in replying to your comment, I would like to discuss further on this matter with you as it would be great to know more users as I continue to edit here. :3

So, while seeing the past revision, it is totally true on how a CPU Falco fires in the same pattern, with absolutely no movement forward or backward. Power-shielding or crouching (with Snake) easily overcomes this minor nuisance.

Now, I do love to DACUS a lot, I will admit that. But, I use it mostly when I'm extremely close to them, and then use it, as kind of surprise attack that cannot be shielded. But, Falco does get me when I try to do it across the stage (using FD measurements) from him, with is both a horrible approach on my part and my strategy. And I haven't still adjusted to using grenades as I am already, so I'll make sure in my next match with Falco, I utilize it to my full advantage.

And Snake can KO Falco once he reaches 110% with his up aerial and side aerial at the first thrust, so all is well. Airconny Airconny Snake Sig.png Doing the DACUS 08:33, 30 March 2013 (EDT)

Best way to approach Falco with Snake is to crawl under his lasers, use DACUS as a surprise to get in when Falco leaves an opening. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 13:29, 30 March 2013 (EDT)
Yes OT is correct Snake can crawl through Lasers since the minimum height Falcos can fire at from a jump is the Silent Laser height which is taller than a grounded grounded laser (in Melee you could actually short hop laser lower than a grounded laser). Human Falco players will often fire in the same Short Hop double laser pattern too except they will move forward or back trying laser. As for KOing Falco, using aerials wouldn't be my first choice since Snake's aerials are kinda meh. Your best KO move is Snake's up tilt. Use that. --BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 15:09, 30 March 2013 (EDT)
Okay, true, this is why I definitely love to crouch with Snake. And Snake's air game is amazing (in my opinion), it just...that forward aerial...But, the up tilt is still just as effective. But, now, I have to make sure not to get chain-grabbed at low percentages, but that'll be easy. Thanks again for the tip. Airconny Airconny Snake Sig.png Doing the DACUS 15:23, 30 March 2013 (EDT)
Snake's aerials are powerful yes, but it is inadvisable to use them out of a short hop which is why they aren't Snake's strong point. Snake's ground game is his primary strength and you should always remember that. As for the chain grab, just keep yourself surrounded by nades, land mines and C4s. That will make Falco think twice before trying to grab you. Not only do all 3 break the chain grab and give Falco damage they also put percentage on you meaning Falcos can't chain grab as much if they grab you again.--BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 15:44, 30 March 2013 (EDT)
Yeah, his ground will always be effective, I mean, like, doing a neutral aerial by just walking off the stage gives little time for me to pull out the Cypher without crossing the lower blast line (FD, of course). And, well, that is true, I mean, CPU's always roll when a land mine is deployed. It always just brings out their flaw. Thanks for that tip, maybe next time they will tremble in my presence...--Airconny Airconny Snake Sig.png Doing the DACUS 15:58, 30 March 2013 (EDT)
I would advise against going offstage so liberally with nair and cypher. Offstage is meant to be a worse position than on stage which is where Snake should be most of the time. If you're against MK it is suicide to go offstage no matter what. It's brawl where no one except MK can edgeguard so against anyone else you have a good chance to get back but most of the time you will come back sustaining heavy damage as you will be forced to use C4s to recover since people will hit you out of cypher easily. Like I said before Snake's ground game is his strong point so naturally you should stay there.--BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 17:36, 30 March 2013 (EDT)
Well, true, the reason I even go offstage is to KO them with either the nair or fair and combine both the double jump and cypher for a boost back to the stage will also sending the opponent off as to perform a neutral attack at the edge for a near to always KO or to perform again another fair or nair and repeat. MK always stands at the edge and once I deploy the Cypher, he does a down aerial or something that nearly always results in a KO if I don't properly momentum-cancel and DI out of it fast enough. Grenades are still the hard part for me to get used to, as I don't know when to shield it, hard throw it, normally throw it, or up throw it. -- Airconny Airconny Snake Sig.png 19:22, 30 March 2013 (EDT)
Trying to edgeguard a MK is one of the riskiest things you could ever do especially with a very easily gimpable recvoery like Snake's. In fact it is so risky I would recommending only doing it if you're another MK. You're probably better off letting MK come back to the stage and punishing his landing for the KO. MK edgeguard styles vary between players, but they are all very deadly. Practicing "edgeguarding" a CPU MK doesn't help the slightest either because they can't exploit MK's offstage game like a real player can.--BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 19:27, 30 March 2013 (EDT)
Toatlly true, and real MK players will exploit the grab release glitch which could be near hard to recover from. And I heard, too, that MK is near to impossible to even edgeguard, to due all of his viable aerials which will help him recover from anything. HE is what I sometimes get concerned with in the game. Airconny Airconny Snake Sig.png 19:42, 30 March 2013 (EDT)

"It's brawl where no one except MK can edgeguard"

Now Brian, if you're going to give Brawl advice, don't be so clearly biased towards Melee and say stuff that is false. Just because fatal edgeguarding doesn't occur as often as it does in Melee doesn't mean it's a nonexistent factor.

And Airconny, Snake's aerial game is best used complimenting his ground game, watch Ally to see how to utilise Snake's aerial game. Also, bair is Snake's best edgeguard option, you should be using that instead of nair as your goto edgeguard. Additionally, players of any character will exploit the grab release glitch on Snake's Cypher, as such, you will almost always want to recover high with Snake, and never recover low against the stage (which also leaves Snake heavily vulnerable to other edgeguarding attacks). Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 21:05, 30 March 2013 (EDT)

His bair is by far his best, too. And Ally? Just saw one of his matches against Renegade (Ike), and he utilizes grenades with near perfect timing, it's incredible...And I also noticed how he barely left the main stage at all, and only did if he was knocked back there or was trying to KO him with an aerial. And what about Snake's d-air, isn't that also good for some horizontal knockback? And I will make sure to stay onto the stage, I know about that glitch and I don't want to use my C4 to get myself back onto stage and not get KOed by other edgeguarding techniques (such as Marth's forward smash or his down aerial). Airconny Airconny Snake Sig.png 22:07, 30 March 2013 (EDT)
You should watch plenty of Ally matches. And Snake's dair is extremely powerful. However, it has very high ending lag, rather small hitboxes, and it's relatively easy to SDI out of it before the last hit comes out. It can only be used as a situational killer to get a really early kill with a good read, you can't rely on it. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 22:16, 30 March 2013 (EDT)
Definitely, he is an amazing Snake user, that's for sure. Yeah, the dair is very easy to SDI out or shield it, but when surprised, it is an extremely efficient KO done. And for a final one, what about his Up Smash? Is it just as effective to use it as an edgeguard for when opponents are trying to recover? I recently used it on a Level 9 KD, and man, was it good. But, I'm not entirely sure it will always work, as I know human players will air dodge it or attack the missile. Airconny Airconny Snake Sig.png 22:32, 30 March 2013 (EDT)
U-smash works well for edgeguarding, since it covers the distance above you and can then cover the ledge, while not being that laggy. Its base knockback is also really high, so if DI'd horizontally, it can get really early KOs. While opponents can air dodge, that will often leave with an opening to nair/bair/uair them. Omega Tyrant TyranitarMS.png 22:42, 30 March 2013 (EDT)
Ah, okay, as I was watching another Snake user use that, and thought it was pretty effective and useful, and it does work for everything. -- Airconny Airconny Snake Sig.png 08:44, 31 March 2013 (EDT)
Be wary that certain aerials beat Snake's up smash (like Dedede's bair) so if you try an aerial to follow up you will actually be at a disadvantage.--BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 16:18, 31 March 2013 (EDT)
Ya, after seeing some of Ally's videos, grenades seem to be a strong point in Snake's arsenal, as it can both inflict damage to the opponent if in a close radius. And I know about some of the other aerials beating Snake's aerials, and it was the hard way most of the time...-- Airconny Airconny Snake Sig.png 16:30, 31 March 2013 (EDT)

Falco vs Peach (SSBM)

Hello, this is probably my worst matchup as Falco, what do think the best things I can do are? Mostly I attempt to spike her a lot, but her floatcancels really screw me up when I'm in the air. The main problem I have is that I really find it hard to KO her. I can't do much offstage and her f-throw puts me in a really bad position. I could just use Jiggs for this matchup but what advice do you have for using Falco? Scr7Wolfsig.png 12:02, 24 June 2013 (EDT)

Peach's weakness as a character is her lack of mobility compared to top tiers; she struggles against Marth, Fox and Falcon because they can overwhelm and outmanever her completely. Falco can't do that (which is why this matchup is difficult). He doesn't possess a long dash dance or a long wavedash like the other characters I mentioned possess. Still the best way to play this matchup is to play patient and try to cover as many options as you can. You definitely want to keep this match on the ground if you can. Lasers stop Peach from pulling turnips which really fuck up Falco extremely badly. If she has a turnip in hand, you're free to jump at her with aerials as she cannot dash attack to snipe your short hop. If she throws the turnip at you, try to jump over it and still land a dair or nair. Beware, the Peach may do that ON PURPOSE to manipulate you to precisely use your second jump. She can easily read that and react with an aerial of her own. So sometimes you should catch the turnip, land and get rid of it as soon as you can. Now you are below Peach and free to bair her.
For other footsies, shine Peach whenever she's pretty close to you (like maybe when she goes for a grab read). You'll get at least 1 aerial out of the shine and maybe a few more after that. If you grab Peach if you're close to the ledge, you should F throw her. Try to use lasers to eat her jump and her float. You must take away both in order to get a clean edgeguard. Another thing you can do if you grab her while facing the edge is use a back throw mixup. Most Peaches would expect you to f throw and DI towards the blastlines. If you back throw instead, Peach will DI towards you and you can get some aerials in. Likewise do this same mixup if you are near the ledge and are facing away from it. If you grab her in the center of the stage, up throw her. Try to read her SDI on the lasers for an aerial followup. Overall you're punishment game against Peach, while potentially very dangerous, is not automatic like in other matchups. It's harsh mental battle for you.
Aside from turnips, Peach has other tricks up her sleeve to fight on the ground with you. For 1 her grab game is much better than yours. She has a chain grab that works from about 25 to 80 and her dash attack (which she will use on you when you short hop recklessly) can easily net her grabs. Dash attack (and down tilt too) is also used to set up float canceled or double jump canceled aerial strings. Oh I almost forgot, Peach's down smash. That's a real pain in the neck for you. You have to hold down for your dairs and shines and if you are caught in that down smash holding down, you will crouch cancel it and take 50+ damage. Also if Peach is only a platform she will intercept your jump with a down smash and again you will take 50+ damage.
Still while Peach can fight you on the ground just fine, they will usually try to float in the sky. In fact there is a spot Peach can float in where Falco cannot shoot any lasers. Take note of Armada's floating position. If Peach is here, there is nothing you can really do against a smart Peach. At that height going for an aerial is pretty dumb, as it is easily telegraphed and Peach has the aerial mobility to just move out of the way and punish you. So at that point you will have to read her landing and punish it.
Finally, as with all Falco matchups, if Falco is offstage, he generally isn't coming back. That's not to say you shouldn't try though. If she uses f-throw to send you offstage DI up as much as you can (in fact DI anything that hits you up). Try to delay your recovery as much as you can (though that's hard since Peach can float and wait). If you have to opportunity to, shorten your side b so you don't run into aerials or turnips. Alternatively you can try to side B over Peach. If you're forced to up B, pretty much always go high. Peach owns the ledge so don't challenge her.
Overall I would say this matchup is in Peach's favor, though slightly. The MU is still 100% winnable for Falco though. Here's a match I think demonstrates the best way to play this matchup. Good Luck.--BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 15:04, 24 June 2013 (EDT)
Thanks, so basically it's good to stay patient, when she's offstage laser her, recover high and above her, and so on, Also what are the best and worst stages for this matchup? Scr7Wolfsig.png 16:04, 24 June 2013 (EDT)
Dammit I knew I forgot something. Dammit :p Well if you can do it, ban Dreamland. ALWAYS ban Dreamland. Peach wins every MU there (cept jiggs). Good stages for Falco in this matchup are Stadium and Yoshi's. I think Peach wins on Fountain and possibly FD. Battlefield is the most neutral stage in the game, so its a true toss up there.--BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 16:19, 24 June 2013 (EDT)

Melee Online

What is the easiest way to play Melee online? Scr7Wolfsig.png 12:36, 15 July 2013 (EDT)

Melee does not have Wi-Fi capability. There is Project M, a Brawl mod designed to play like Melee, and has Wi-Fi capability. Bandit 12:39, 15 July 2013 (EDT)
I know, but can't you do it with an emulator or something? Scr7Wolfsig.png 12:41, 15 July 2013 (EDT)
Also PM doesn't have a PAL version yet so I can't play it. Scr7Wolfsig.png 12:42, 15 July 2013 (EDT)
Netplay for Dolphin is awful. It's unreliable, due to the numerous desyncs it has when playing, and, just, it becomes a hassle to get it setup, too. Port forwarding and all that nonsense. -- Conny Airconny Snake Sig.png 12:44, 15 July 2013 (EDT)

IRC ban

Hi, due to your continued insistence to not drop your Melee warrior shtick and bitch about everything not-Melee when you're on IRC, and the general feeling among other IRC users that you're a disruption whenever you come on, you have been banned from IRC for a week. If you intend to come back on to IRC when your ban is up, drop the Melee warrior shit. It's great and all you love Melee so much, doesn't mean you have to fellate Melee/PM while trashing the other Smash games/mods all the time. If your intention was to troll the other users because most of them play Brawl, then stay out and take your shtick back to AiB. If your intention was to try "converting" them to Melee/PM, drop your shtick anyway, as it's clear you don't know a damn thing about how to get other people interested in trying something you like, and you just annoy and disrupt when you do come on. Plus you have violated many times the IRC rule that forbids the rebringing up of topics users have already shown a disinterest in discussing. Melee's "Elite Four"

I've heard the term used a lot lately, and I've wondered who it includes. Who is it for "the older generation"? Ken, Chu, KDJ, Azen, PC Chris? Is it M2K, PP, Armada, Mango, HBox for the new generation? Awesome Cardinal 2000 21:52, 9 October 2013 (EDT)

The current Melee Elite 4 are Mango, PP, Hbox and Mew2king. Continuing the Pokemon analogy, Armada was the champion but he retired. The older generation it was Ken, Chudat, Azen and PC Chris. KDJ never won an MLG tournament. --BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 21:58, 9 October 2013 (EDT)

Excluding certain characters' articles from Project M

Including some characters' PM character pages while leaving out others' such as the removed Brawl characters, seems incomplete to me. We have articles on every character for the rest of the games, and Project M characters are stlll pretty different from their Melee counterparts. The stuff about solo matches should also be removed. Awesome Cardinal 2000 21:09, 17 October 2013 (EDT)

What are you talking about. If the proposal is passed I'll write a character article if the character in question is sufficiently different. Roy and Mewtwo deserve articles, but characters like Fox, Falco, Marth, Peach, and Sheik don't.--BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 21:27, 17 October 2013 (EDT)
We've been creating an article for every character that appears in a game so far. I don't see why we should exclude certain characters from this. By the logic that the articles should only be created if sufficiently different, the clones in Melee should be subsections of their originals. Also the Melee page would then probably be filled with PM information that readers looking for "official" information would not want to read about. Awesome Cardinal 2000 16:10, 18 October 2013 (EDT)

Powershield correction

Thanks for fixing my mistake on the PS article! I meant to write inner circle but apparently got confused. Kadano talk 17:48, 13 December 2013 (EST)

Yea no problem. 1 Question though. When you are running, does the powershield bubble drag? This would explain why a running powershield is easier than a standing powershield. If so, I'll make a note and put it on the wiki. Thanks!--BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 20:51, 13 December 2013 (EST)
I'm 95% sure only hitboxes drag (by which I assume you mean what I call "interframe stretch"); hurtboxes and defensive bubbles don't. But the difference between having drag and not having drag for a running powershield is only relevant at the top and bottom, since the velocity isn't that high, and even then the extra space that dragging would cover generally isn't what the attack hits (it hits the thick part in the middle that's cohesive along the width even without dragging). Toomai Glittershine ??? The Yoshi 23:03, 13 December 2013 (EST)
I just confirmed what Toomai wrote above; shields don’t drag. Kadano talk 11:30, 14 December 2013 (EST)

I had seen the vid of Lord losing the loser's finals, which would make him fourth. I very well might be mistaken, but do you mind giving me the link? Melee is so fantastic

Brian, i have heard a lot about you. Truly, Melee was one of those games that gave a beautiful experience to the player, giving one of the most washed down engines and one of the greatest occurrences in a game, being flawed as it is, that is. It's so separated from the rest that it makes it so bland, yet a perfection to eyes of those who truly seek comfort. Brian, you're logicalness in you positive statements make me wish that Brawl 4 would be much like Melee, flawed, a more divided community, and most importantly, Nintendo interfering with our play and disallowing streams altogether, and everyone getting upset for no reason. Truly, Melee has made the bet out of us all and I wish the love for it could be more widespread around the wiki, but alas no one seems to have it in their favour. Understandable, since many consider it to be just so amazing and bransish it as one of the greatest single entities and refuse to acknowledge stuff more advanced than it is. Brian, don't stop having no tech skill because you are Nintendo. It will make everything much more healthy around here. You are my one, my Chesnaught. wot 50.63.197.157 20:41, 30 April 2014 (EDT)

Brian, this is it. The revelation of a lifetime is finally coming, with Melee finally being announced as being re-released for DVD on Blu-Ray. Do you think it gets much hype than this? I think not you fool. It gets much better, have you not seen posters around anonymous based websites discuss this? Already Ridley was confirmed for coming back with Mewtwo being shafted of course, and possibly or the better. Brian listen to me. This is it, finally the intro is getting a proper Blu-Ray release. The FMV is finally getting a good release. As for the game, I don't think it's supported so no, pls just no. 213.251.189.203 20:28, 28 May 2014 (EDT)

Can you confirm whether there's a dashdace at 1:23 of this video? Toomai Glittershine ??? The Glow 23:15, 14 June 2014 (EDT)

That was an example of a Foxtrot, something considered slower and shorter and thus universally less useful than a dash dance. It takes twice as many inputs as a dash dance, but it only moves Marth half as fast. Marth's foxtrot in Melee is also noticeably longer than the foxtrot shown there.--BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 23:29, 14 June 2014 (EDT)

Hand warmer question

Why is it that when players are done warming up, they self-destruct until one of them "wins" the match? Why can't they simply pause and reset? blue ninjakoopa 16:59, 5 July 2014 (EDT)

Pause is disabled on stream setups. Rage quitting is unprofessional. --BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 17:05, 5 July 2014 (EDT)
When you say "rage-quitting," are you talking about when players reset the match before the assured loss of their final stock? Because I've seen that on streams before, as well as here. blue ninjakoopa 17:11, 5 July 2014 (EDT)
On professional streams like VGBootcamp, CT, MLG and EVO, no pausing on stream. On recording setups and local streams, people don't mind.--BrianDon't try me!Falco.gif 17:55, 5 July 2014 (EDT)

Mario's down throw on G&W (SSBM)

I'm not sure how much you know about Melee's physics, but I figured asking you directly would actually yield results as opposed to asking on the Mario, Game & Watch, or down throw articles' talk pages. I'm watching the 26 character Iron Man matches between Mango and M2K and it's currently Mario (M2K) vs. G&W (Mango), and Mario has d-throwed G&W multiple times (I suspect in hopes for a combo; here's an example), but Mr. Game & Watch doesn't bounce up like other characters and instead hits the ground like characters do when Fox or Falco down throw them. Why is that? Blue Ninjakoopa 19:12, 8 September 2014 (EDT)

I went and had a look in debug mode. Apparently, when Mario uses his down throw on G&W, G&W's stage collision diamond ends up partially inside the floor when he's released, causing the game to treat him as hitting the ground. Jigglypuff (same weight) doesn't have the same issue, so I guess it's animation-related. Toomai Glittershine ??? The Emissary 19:56, 8 September 2014 (EDT)

Sheik's running d-tilt
