About me
I've played Smash for a very long time and have competed in some tournaments but irl stuff, my horrible anxiety and undiagnosed ADHD at the time, and a general lack of motivation at the time prevented me from actually taking it as seriously as I would have liked. As I've gotten older, I've taken more of an active interest in it since I can manage my mental health and responsibilities better than when I was younger. I haven't been to any tournaments since COVID but will plan to in the future. I generally edit the attributes, changes, and moveset pages, mainly for the characters I play, but other fighters as well. I also pretty much only solo main a single character in each respective game, although I do have other characters that are either pockets or that I play for fun. Currently focusing on my mental health while pursuing a degree in Computer Science, and am hoping to graduate in Fall of 2024 or Spring 2025.
History
Brawl
I started playing Brawl casually but eventually grew to enjoy Wi-Fi, watching competitive matches, and learning more advanced tech. I initially mained Snake for a bit, but I strongly dislike the way he is designed due to his absurdly huge janky hitboxes (even though this would have been a boon for me if I played him), extremely laggy aerials, and horrible ground to air transitioning due to his 9 frame jumpsquat. Eventually, I found a new main in Zero Suit Samus, who I thoroughly enjoyed for her many different setups, movement tech, and item game with her Power Suit Pieces (utilizing glide tosses and jump cancelled throws was something I got good at and consistently did). I still play Brawl to this day, as despite many issues I have with the game, I still enjoy it and it was the game that got me into the series. Even I pretty much solely play ZSS, I do have a pocket character in King Dedede. Characters I play for fun are Meta Knight, Olimar, Marth, Diddy Kong, and Wario.
Smash 4
When Smash 4 first came out, I did not enjoy the game very much at all but it grew on me in early 2015. I had trouble finding a main character to play mainly because I didn't like the changes they made to ZSS (even though she was technically buffed) and I couldn't find a character I was interested in putting time and effort into learning until Ryu came out. I loved to play him due to the large amount of setups and combo opportunities he had, as well as his combo breaking options. It took a lot of practice and grinding to master his inputs and get good with him, but I eventually developed a reliable and consistent gameplan with him. I haven't played the game in a while and if I were to return to it for some reason, it would definitely take some derusting in order to get back to as good as I once was. Characters I have as pocket characters in Smash 4 are Mario, Cloud and Donkey Kong. Characters I play for fun are Rosalina & Luma, Bowser, Mewtwo, and Bayonetta.
Melee
Throughout Smash 4's competitive lifespan, I eventually got into Melee, which to this day, I spend a great deal of my free time playing and labbing with Fox, albeit not to the degree of Ultimate. Other characters I enjoy playing are Sheik and Peach.
Ultimate
I've been playing Ultimate for some time now and it is easily my favorite Smash game. Choosing a main was very difficult due to the huge variety of characters that I enjoy playing, but I eventually made a return to my original main of Snake and am solo maining him as I am very happy with the changes made to him in this game (I personally think he's better in Ultimate even though the general consensus is that he's better in Brawl). He is easily my best character and by far my favorite character to play, mainly due to his edgeguarding and the sheer versatility of his moveset. Characters I have as pocket characters are Luigi, Roy, and Terry. Characters I enjoy playing for fun but have no intention of investing time into (except maybe one) are: Mario, Cloud, Samus, Ryu, Incineroar, Mr. Game & Watch, Ness, R.O.B, Diddy Kong, Link, Young Link, Wolf, Kazuya and Steve.
Trivia
- I usually don't (save maybe one or two) have any "secondaries". I have pocket characters that I occasionally use, but I always solo main a character so I can invest all of my time to practice and master my main.
- My favorite type of character are characters that are very setup heavy and have great punish games.
- I also like grab heavy characters (grapplers or, in Smash, half-grapplers), but I don't main them.
- I have never been in a relationship due to my depression, extreme social anxiety, and RSD (rejection sensitive dysphoria). It is a great source of shame but is something I want to work on in the future.
