Maesuma'JAPAN West 24 was a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate major invitational tournament part of the Maesuma series held in Hirakata, Japan, from August 31st-September 1st, 2024. The event was the sequel of JAPAN 24.

Format[edit]

The round-robin group phase on August 31st had 4 groups of 6, which decided the final 16-person double-elimination bracket on September 1st. 1st and 2nd place in each group advanced to Winners, 3rd and 4th advanced to Losers, and 5th and 6th were eliminated. Any ties were broken by least games lost, then, if needed, by head-to-head record.

Tournament Summary[edit]

Day 1[edit]

The first day of the tournament was dedicated to the group stage.

Group A1, ended in a five-way set tie. Rarikkusu (12th seed) took the group as a result of the highest game rate percentage. Rarikkusu defeated Shirayuki (5th seed), Kuhaku (20th seed) and Nakatae (21st seed). Doramigi was the other player that made it out in Winner's after beating Rarikkusu, Kome (13th seed) and Nakatae.

Shirayuki and Kome made it out in loser's by defeating Doramigi, Kuhaku, and Nakatae and Shirayuki, Rarikkusu, and Nakatae respectively. Kuhaku was eliminated, despite going 3-2 in sets with wins over Doramigi, Kome and Nakatae.

Snow (6th seed) won group A2 after going 4-1, with sets over Asimo (3rd seed), MASA (11th seed), Raki (14th seed), and Shupi (19th seed). Asimo was the other player to make it out in Winner's, due to owning the head to head over mzk (22nd seed). In addition to mzk, Asimo defeated MASA and Raki. mzk, meanwhile defeated Snow, Raki and Shupi, ensuring him a place in loser's. Raki, was the final player to make it out of loser's, due to holding the h2h over MASA. Raki also defeated Shupi, while MASA beat Shupi and mzk. The final player eliminated was Shupi. Despite being eliminated, Shupi did win a set over the group's top seed, Asimo, 3-2.

Raru (2nd seed), went undefeated in Group B1, by defeating Maister (7th seed) 3-1, Kuroponzu (10th seed) 3-2, Ryuoh (15th seed) 3-0, Rokki (18th seed) 3-2, and Miko (23rd seed) 3-0. Maister would also get out in Winner's by only dropping a set to Raru.

Kuroponzu and Ryuoh would make it out in losers, by defeating Ryuoh and Rokki and and Rokki and Miko respectively. Rokki and Miko would be eliminated, while only taking a singular set over Miko and Kuroponzu respectively.

The final group, B2, was won by Miya (1st seed). Miya, would use a combination of Mr. Game & Watch and Steve. Miya defeated Carmelo (8th seed), Yone_pi (9th seed), Nizemamo (16th seed), Karaage (17th seed), and Shion (24th seed), while only dropping a single game, to Yone_pi.

Yone_pi, was the other player to make it out in Winner's due to having the head to head over Carmelo. Yone_pi also beat Nizemamo and Shion, while Carmelo defeated Nizemamo, Karaage and Shion. Nizemamo was the final player to get out, holding 2-4 set record, with wins on Karaage and Shion. Karaage and Shion both went 1-5 taking sets over Yone_pi and Karaage respectively.

Day 2[edit]

The second day of the tournament featured the Top 16. Miya and Maister faced off, for the first time in Ultimate. This set had been highly anticipated due to the players being widely recognized as the top two Mr. Game & Watch mains. However Miya opted to use Steve, winning the set 3-1. Miya would go on to beat Asimo 3-2 before playing against Raru in Winner's Finals. Raru reached Winner's Finals by defeating Yone_pi 3-1 and Snow 3-0.

Miya would win the Winner's Finals Set 3-2, however he would face off against Raru in Grand's after Raru defeated Maister, for the second time at the event, 3-1. Raru would win the runback 3-2 before Miya prevailed in the final set 3-2.
