Tōhoku

(Redirected from Tohoku)

Tōhoku is a Smash region in Japan. Located at the northernmost portion of the island of Honshū, the region is compromised of six prefectures: Akita, Aomori, Fukushima, Iwate, Miyagi, and Yamagata. While many of the prefectures host locals, the majority of large-scale tournaments, including the long-running Tohoku Sumabura Championship (TSC) series, take place in Miyagi.

Initially a small region, it has grown significantly since the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U days, as the region saw several players achieving significant success in Japan's strongest regions, Kantō and Kansai. These players include, Songn, who placed 4th at Super Sumabato, 7th at Umebura 13, and 13th at Umebura 33; and Somé, who placed 3rd at Sumabato Smash 4 Final and 5th at both Umebura 19 and Umebura 26, as well as placed 9th at the American major Frostbite 2017. The region became even stronger in Ultimate, thanks to the rise of players such as Akio and yoko# to the national scene, with Akio especially achieving global recognition in 2024.
