Okay, so Toomai added this to divide the games into sections. But how do we incorporate the main pages of the fighters? SeanWheeler (talk) 22:04, 10 April 2014 (EDT)
I'm not sure it would have a place. You'd think a template table for dividing attributes of a character among the games they appear in would be relevant, but I can't think of anything for it anyway. Toymakers Creation (talk) 22:20, 10 April 2014 (EDT)
- Yeah, this division is bad. Also, it makes the navboxes taller and not neat. HEY TOOMAI! I don't think this is your best ideas. Sure maybe the recent reveal of Zero Suit Samus, Charizard, and Sheik might have motivated you to split the nav box like this, but I don't think it is necessary at all. The previous nav boxes were okay the way they were. SeanWheeler (talk) 15:59, 11 April 2014 (EDT)
- I don't suppose you have a better idea for fixing extreme left-heaviness and fat rows, aside from ignoring per-game split altogether? Toomai Glittershine
The Sharp 16:19, 11 April 2014 (EDT)
- Let me rephrase that. I looked at the templates of the long-represented universes and noticed that they were becoming very tall without a proportional increase of actual content (e.g. rows four or five lines tall with one item on each line) due to how navboxes work, leaving a huge chunk of blank space that I figured could easily be filled. I went and converted things into a table-like format, which is much more balanced in general; if things become too right-heavy in the future we can drop the "every column must be equal width" bit and things should fill out nicely. I realized that there was no place to put links to the general character pages but dismissed it, under the idea that the only way to work them in without reverting to the old fat format would be to drop the entire idea of listing things split into games. Do you have another solution? Toomai Glittershine

Maybe something like this?

There, a lot shorter. SeanWheeler (talk) 21:38, 11 April 2014 (EDT)
- Hmmm. I'm currently not a fan of seeing the brackets everywhere, necessary though it is. This actually makes a decent argument for cutting the game connections entirely. Let's see what other people think. Toomai Glittershine

Y'know, the more I think about it, the more I prefer the proposed navbox with the game designations completely removed (with necessary exceptions). The purpose of the series navboxes is not to list what's in which game, but to list what's part of the series regardless of what game it's in. So basically it would look like this:
| |
---|---|
Characters | Link (SSB · SSBM · SSBB · SSB4) · Young Link (SSBM) · Toon Link (SSBB · SSB4) · Zelda (SSBM · SSBB · SSB4) · Sheik (SSBM · SSBB · SSB4) · Ganondorf (SSBM · SSBB) |

- Yeah, that's better. But the link to Link's Smash 64 subpage should show SSB, instead of Link, to avoid confusion with Link's main page and to be consistant with the other fighter links on the template. (Man, did Nintendo have to name the hero of Hyrule Link? Well at least the capitalization should differentiate the two meanings.) And yeah, avoiding splitting it by game works. At least if people don't know which game the item appears, they could read the article, which has game icons at the top, appearance listing in the infobox, and navboxes for each game. SeanWheeler (talk) 19:12, 13 April 2014 (EDT)

- So I went ahead and put the universe templates back to normal. It proved to shorten some of them like {{Mario universe}}. And it's good to be able to have instant access to the fighters' main pages instead of scrolling all the way up to the top to do so. Anyway, now that these split templates have been proven useless and you agreed that we don't need game designations in universe templates, I'm going to mark this page and the Melee and Brawl counterparts for deletion. You can delete them when you're ready. SeanWheeler (talk) 16:09, 20 April 2014 (EDT)
