SmashWiki talk:Image copyrights
Proposal[edit]
Out current page on image copyrights has basically never been edited from the Wikia default (in terms of what it actually means) and is way too heavyweight for what we need. This aims to replace it. Toomai Glittershine The Altruistic 12:58, 7 December 2014 (EST)
- Support. It's easier to know which images get which tags this way, in contrast to the previous tags we currently use ({{fairuse}} and {{PD}}). While it is going to be difficult getting used to the new templates, that's really a minor problem, unless a redirect could be made from the current templates to the new ones. Rtzxy Reflect! 16:26, 7 December 2014 (EST)
- Support. I get really confused on which tag I am supossed to use each time I'm going to upload a new image. This helps a lot. Tepig (talk) 16:33, 7 December 2014 (EST)
- Support They're much better to understand than the previous tags, although we might need a crap ton of cleaning up to do if we're going to replace the original ones. Dots (talk) The Piano 18:24, 12 January 2015 (EST)
- support this seems like it would clear up things for new users (the ones that can upload images.)Beckitten27 (talk) 17:53, 18 January 2015 (EST)
- Support: These are much easier to understand, and bots could probably be able to change many of the old tags. DarkFox01Dang! DEPLOY IT NOW! 17:57, 18 January 2015 (EST)
Bumping this to see if any opposes show up. I plan to design the new templates this would require soon. Toomai Glittershine The Chilled 13:42, 2 February 2015 (EST)
- Support: I find nothing wrong with this. I think this could actually work better for most images. Aidan the Aura Master 15:13, 2 February 2015 (EST)
- Support. This would have been useful when I was uploading my first image. Nyargleblargle (Talk) 06:47, 6 May 2015 (EDT)
- Support. Much more comprehensive. Serpent King (talk) 17:44, 9 June 2015 (EDT)
Bump. It's been over a month and a half without any change, and so I would be led to believe that this policy would be implemented soon. There hasn't been any opposition, so I'd think it's about time. DarkFox01Break the Targets! 15:03, 25 July 2015 (EDT)
- Bumping again. Nine months is more than enough time for opposes to crop up, and none have been made. Nyargleblargle (Talk) 13:09, 31 August 2015 (EDT)
So...[edit]
It seems like it's time to implement this policy proposal, but how? I'm not sure how well a bot would work here. Nyargleblargle Let's go Mets! (Talk · Contribs) 16:10, 26 October 2015 (EDT)

It may be tricky to simply say "yeah a bot can do it", because the new categories may not mesh cleanly with the current ones. But I'm sure there's something that can be done to automate part of it. At the very least, the policy says "tags aren't mandatory, and assume screenshot if there isn't one", so in the worst-case scenario we can simply remove the existing tags from most images and not be forced to replace them with anything. Toomai Glittershine The Metroid 14:46, 9 November 2015 (EST)
- In that case, would it be best to handle everything manually, or should the removals of tags be done automatically? Nyargleblargle (Talk | Contribs) 15:38, 9 November 2015 (EST)
- I'm not the one you are looking for... But if Toomai can code in the required items into XL, then maybe... INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 15:45, 9 November 2015 (EST)
- It may be possible, may not be. (I'm don't understand the syntax of python anyway, only CSS) INoMed (Talk • Contribs) 15:50, 9 November 2015 (EST)
- From what I see, most if not all of the usr images can count as usermade. Would that work for some of them?DekZek 16:25, 9 November 2015 (EST)
- Sure, but I'd like to implement this when we can change the tags over efficiently, and I still feel like a bot would be a big help with that, even if it can't do everything on its own. Nyargleblargle (Talk | Contribs) 16:42, 9 November 2015 (EST)
