How I Got Into Smash Brothers

I first got into SSB when I saw a Let's Play Collab of Super Smash Bros. Brawl by TheRunawayGuys on Youtube. I highly suggest you look them up. Anyway that was in 2012 and I was so happy about that game. I begged to get it for Christmas. At a cousin's Hanukkah party, I was able to play Brawl, and enjoyed every second I could spend with it. I even beat some of my cousin's friends in the game. It was then that I noticed that the air was pretty much the best place to be, since you had a lot of moving space. So I made my strategy to get in the air. Finally, on Christmas, 2012, I got Brawl, along with a Wii U. I didn't unlock the characters with Subspace. I acutally unlocked them the way you normally do. Falco's took me FOREVER. Then I unlocked Mr. Game and Watch last. At the time I was maining as Ice Climbers. But I started playing as Mr. Game and Watch, and instantly fell in love with his air game. He had strong side air attacks, a saving up air from possible meteors, and a quick down air that I could turn to a smash attack instantly when I hit the ground. I never used his Hammer once.

Getting Melee

Later on I wanted to try out Melee, since I bought a Gamecube off of eBay with some of my 8th grade Graduation money. I never did find a decent priced one on eBay. Until around November. I found a Buy It Now for the entire Melee game (instructions and case included) for $30 bucks fast and free shipping. I pissed off 3 other people, since they were watching the game too. When I got Melee, I had trouble finding a main. I first tried Samus, then Ganon, then Yoshi, but I couldn't find one. I didn't find one until after I got a main for SSB64! Eventually, I decided on Dr. Mario. Since I like staying in the air, his N-Air is a great touch, along with his juggling back air and strong forward air. I didn't main as GNW because I hate his physics. He doesn't float after his Up-Air. He falls in Helplessness. And his Down-Air isn't fast at all...

The Last is the First

Around December 2013, I decided to get the original SSB. I got it for 10 bucks on my Wii and instantly figured out my main character. Mario. He has such a good air game. I instantly fell in love with his strong back air and juggling up air. I also like his down B and wish it wasn't nerfed in Melee and removed in Brawl. I tried Donkey Kong but I couldn't play him at all. He's more ground than air in that game.

My Overall Playstyle

For me, I always try to get my opponents in the air and then juggle them to the edge of the stage. To do this, I look for characters that have good up or side smashes, and a good juggle ability. I also look for characters with strong side aerials, since I use those aerials the most. In SSB64, Mario's back air is a devastating attack, and his up air is great for juggling. In SSBM, Dr. Mario has a gifting neutral air for me, as I stay in air long. As the n-air stays out, it's power increases. His Back air is great for juggling with short hops, and his forward air is a devastating finisher. In SSBB, Mr. Game and Watch is combo city. I can rack of damage with the multi hit back air, hit strong by using his forward air with each jump, and his recovery allows me to act out of the parachute, which is great for getting in close.

Me during a Match

When Winning

When I'm winning a match, I tend to lose focus and do something stupid, like recover the wrong way. I also tend to spike more often, which can lead to me self destructing. However, I can get really into the match and start comboing with a back air. So if I'm Toon Link, you might want to try to get the upper hand early.

When Losing

You wouldn't like it when I'm losing. I won against a professional online by having a low score. You see, I was fighting with a friend I met on Miiverse. He was super good with Lucas, and I was playing as Luigi. He was beating me 3 lives to 1. I actually won that match. No it wasn't because he got cocky and started to let up. No. He never let up. I went beserk. I stopped playing defensive and went right on his heels without stopping. I never gave him a chance to recover at that point, since normally I don't try to block a recovery. So when I'm losing, try to keep a good distance away from me. Once a combo starts, it doesn't end.

Online

When I'm online, I usually go to Team Match. I never go to Basic Brawl, since that's where all the griefers are. I'm always ganged up there, and it makes it real fustrating to play. On Team Match, I usually end up with a good Brawl, since we all give our best shots. We usually have a taunt match if we all died because of one thing. Trust me, it happens. When I'm with friends, my playstyle is affected by who I'm going against. If it's someone who is causal, I usually play casual. If it's against a professional, well you know what happens.
