Event match
An Event Match is a battle in which predetermined conditions (i.e. number of opponents, your strength, handicaps, and so on) are imposed. Event matches first appeared in Super Smash Bros. Melee, with 51 being available. In Brawl, there are 41 single-player events and 20 co-op events (a new feature), each with three difficulty levels. In Melee, a lot of event matches makes you play as any character you desire while few of them makes you play as the character chosen for you. For example: In All-Star Matches, you can play as any character, and in two Trouble King matches, you play as the character chosen for you where you battle against Bowser and your character is the Mario Bros. where the first Trouble King match is an epic battle between Mario and Bowser and the last is Luigi vs. Giant Bowser. In Brawl, you can only play as any character in All-Star battles and final battles, the rest of them have the characters chosen for you.
