Publicities
The square shaped one hides some content of the main page, it should be removed from the main page or it should be placed some where else.

News addition
Ken Hoang is a contestant on Survivor: Gabon. I think this is a big deal for the Smash community. Could we consider putting it on the Main Page news? Dogman15 (talk) 21:07, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
It has very little relevance to Smash, so I would say no. --Posted by Pikamander2 (Talk) at 21:11, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
I think it would work in the Did you know section. I'll add it. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 04:48, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Poll
I think its time to change the poll, its every week right? Who normally runs it?Smoreking T C 14:26, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

- Go ahead and take care of it. Don't help people get around their bans. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 14:50, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!
I ADDED A FEATURED VIDEO LIKE SOME OF THE OTHER WIKI'S HAVE! KP317 (talk) 19:52, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- Do we really need that? Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 22:18, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
- I think the video should be removed. For starters, you didn't get any consensus to add it in the first place, and even though it's been removed (twice) you keep adding it without discussing it yourself. (Your post above is really an announcement, not a discussion.) Past that, adding a YouTube embed to the main page slows down load time. Also, videos like the Smash Bros. intro aren't really compelling instances of "fair use," certainly aren't original to Smash Wiki, and aren't encyclopedic. Being welcoming isn't a valid reason--sure, we should be accessible, but putting a video unrelated to any article content on the main page doesn't do that at all. --Kirby King 22:21, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- I believe that the there can be a video but only if its extremely important, such as Brawl's first trailer shown when it was first released. But for right now, I don't believe any videos can be used to positisivise(make positive) the main page. The intro isn'r extremely important to the wiki.Smore Talk 00:12, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
maybe i kept adding it because people kept deleting it without discussing why, DUH. secondly, rawk, you can just shut up right now, because you didn't even post a valid reason like kirbyking and smoreking did. thirdly, thats fine if you guys don't want it in there, but i still don't see the harm. Match-Ups
The other day, my friend was browsing through Smash Boards, and he found a graph of all the character match-ups, that showed large advantages, slight advantages, equal, slight disadvantages, and large disadvantages, and this has been very helpful to use when we play. I think instead of having to go through the whole match-up fiasco again, this picture could just be uploaded instead. I would do it myself, but I only get on smash wiki at school, and smash boards is blocked. BEN!
Link please. --Posted by Pikamander2 (Talk) at 20:55, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
This one http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=186338 And this one http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=157979 Personally, I favor the second one.... pretty pictures BEN!
- From what I've seen of those match-up charts, they're mostly just the charts of specific users or small groups. If the Back Room gets behind them, or if they become widely accepted among the top players, maybe we could add it. As for now, lets not. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 23:19, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
I don't agree with those match-up charts. They seem rather inaccurate. - GalaxiaD (talk) 23:24, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
In hindsight, I guess I agree. I didn't have any problems beating a lvl. 9 Meta Knight with Captain Falcon, Link, and Ganondorf. I think it may be geared more towards CPU battles; whenever we do a tourney with equal lvl. CPUs, the chart seems to be correct. BEN!
I based my tier list off that second one. JtM =^] (talk) 21:33, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
Adding new sections to the Main Page
Let's not, especially if you haven't so much as mentioned your idea here, on the talk page for the Main Page. I don't know why there's this fascination with adding polls and videos and other things that are not in any way, shape, or form, encyclopedic, but I'm very much sick of it. This isn't the only place on the Internet about Super Smash Bros., people! --Kirby King 00:56, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- Final Fantasy Wikia does it, so why not? Besides, I really think it's a good idea. I thought this site was for the fans. Squallinoa 08 (talk) 01:01, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- This isn't the final fantasy wiki. We're not a fan site, we're an encyclopedia for Smash Bros. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 01:20, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- But still, wikis are created for the fans. To provide them with information about their favorite game. And plus, it gives them news and other amazing fanboy stuff. Squallinoa 08 (talk) 01:23, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- We are not a "fanboy" wiki. We've been working hard to make this an encyclopedia since long before you showed up. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 01:24, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- I know, and I appreciate your hard efforts. I for one wanna help out with the wiki as well. But still, I still believe that everyone should get what they want on this site. Like, fun stuff. Squallinoa 08 (talk) 01:28, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well, here's a Smash Bros. "Fanon/fanboy" Wiki. Some User named Slippy the Penguin gave me the link to this website for some reason. I don't even know him. MarioGalaxy {talk} 01:25, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- You can't go too hard on him. he did get permission. Cheezperson {talk}Achievemts 01:46, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- And you know what! While we're at it, BAN ME TOO! You may ban me from this site, but you can't never, ever, take my love for Super Smash Bros away from me! Squallinoa 08 (talk) 01:49, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- I have/have had no plans on banning you. All of you edits have been bona fide attempts at helping out, even if I disagree with you. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 02:51, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Fan Site
You know what, if this isn't a fansite then, then take out the polls, delete the Smash Arena then. I don't care! Do whatever you like! Wikis aren't just encylopedias you know. It's suppose to be to the fans for the fans! Squallinoa 08 (talk) 01:45, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- I don't really know how to respond to this, other than to point out your method of deducing what SmashWiki is "suppose [sic] to be" (i.e. whatever you think it should be, regardless of what it currently is or what anyone else thinks it should be) is, ironically, very un-wiki. --Kirby King 01:50, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- I got that from Final Fantasy Wiki. THEY know what their fans want! I mean Cheezperson agrees with me! Squallinoa 08 (talk) 01:52, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- FNW did give permission for someone to do it. Check her talk page for proof. Cheezperson {talk}Achievemts 01:54, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Take a look at Wikitroid and POTC Wiki. They're not fan wikis. They're encyclopedic wikis, and two of the most informative wikis. MarioGalaxy {talk} 01:55, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- The PoTC listed DVD releases, something for fans to know so they can buy the movie in time. They also listed the awards and stuff! Squallinoa 08 (talk) 01:57, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
That thing about Fyre was settled on CH's talk page. MarioGalaxy {talk} 01:56, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
O_o big discussion. On Smashboards, people take facts like character attribute from here and put them on a guide. If this was a fan wiki, then they wouldnt look here anyway. People look up advanced techniques here, its an encyclopedia. JtM =^] (talk) 02:21, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Apology
I would like to apologize to Kirbyking, Clarinet, MarioGalaxy, Xtreme, and all the admins on this site about the way I acted. I should have realized that all wikis are different. Wheather they are a fanbase site or just an encylopedia, I shouldn't realized the differences between them. I wish I could take back everything I said and regret creating the Smash Arena without any admins permission and posting it on the main page. I should be responsible for my actions on this site. I really am sorry for the dillema I've caused. I hope you accept my apology and hopefully we will work things out. I am very sorry to everyone on this site. And I do thank Cheezperson for supporting me as well. So I am sorry, I shouldn't ask you guys if I could create the Smash Arena page, and hopefully you we can make a understanding. So yea, I am so sorry. Please reply back to me, I appreciate it! Squallinoa 08 (talk) 05:33, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- Although I appreciate it, an apology isn't really necessary. As I said, I didn't remove the Smash Arena because I'm an admin, but because there wasn't any sort of discussion to add it. As a rule, sudden non-trivial changes to an important page can be reverted, which only means that there should be a discussion on the talk page before reinstating it (or not). Any user could have done the same thing I did, and any user could decide to make the case for including it on the talk page. Though I predict it unlikely, if there were consensus to add it, it could be added. --Kirby King 16:00, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
