Bellossom (キレイハナ, Kireihana in Japanese language versions) is a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise. In each Smash game it appears in, it uses Sweet Scent as its attack, which can cause nearby opponents to enter deep slumber.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

As a Poké Ball Pokémon

Bellossom in Melee.

Bellossom appears as a Pokémon that comes out of a Poké Ball and a trophy in Melee. Bellossom will use Sweet Scent as its attack. Bellossom will start dancing when it comes out of the Poké Ball. Any character that makes contact with the powder surrounding Bellossom will fall asleep. The character who is asleep cannot move until he or she is attacked or when Bellosom disappears, making this Pokémon ideal for characters who possess attacks with large Knockback. Unlike most Pokémon, Bellossom remains on the stage for a long period of time.

As a trophy

The Belossom trophy in Melee

Bellossom features as a collectible trophy, unlocked as one of the 100+ trophies that can be collected randomly during normal play, such as in the Trophy Lottery and throughout the various Single-player Regular Matches. It reads as follows:

Bellossom
From time to time, these beautiful flower Pokémon will gather in numbers and perform an odd sort of dance to call out the sun. While in the midst of this strange exhibition, their petals brush together to create a peaceful and soothing melody. A Gloom will only evolve into a Bellossom if it's exposed to a Sun Stone. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Bellossom returns using Sweet Scent, as before, although the attack does not last as long as in Melee. It causes minor damage if characters are put to sleep the moment it is summoned.

A Flower Pokémon. After spells of cloudy weather, Bellossom will gather to call out the sun by performing a dance. When exposed long enough to the sun, the leaves on its body will spin around. A Bellossom's Speed is also known to increase with sun exposure. Its main specialty is Grass-type attacks. Also, Bellossom will close its flowers when sleeping.

Bellossom makes its third appearance in Super Smash Bros. 4, functionally identical to the way it behaved in Brawl: it can put enemies to sleep if they get too close.

Trivia

  • Sweet Scent doesn't induce sleep in the Pokémon games. Instead, it lowers evasiveness, which makes opposing Pokémon easier to hit with moves that have poor accuracy. In the Super Smash Bros. games, Sweet Scent makes foes easier to hit by putting them to sleep, which can be seen as a consistency.
