From SmashWiki, the Super Smash Bros. wiki
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome, editors and users, to the Smash Arena! Each week this forum hosts a tussle between two characters, items, stages or anything else from the Super Smash Bros. series! The winner gets, well, nothing. It's more of a poll but functionally, this is a popularity contest. You may vote for your favorite or who you think would win in an competition between the two combatants that round. No, you don't have to vote for the character with strength & power, or the stage considered more "fair", or the combatant with the most fans - just vote if you are a total fanboy of the participant. So what are you waiting for? Get voting! Remember, you don't have to have an account to vote! Though new requests for fights can no longer be made, voting on already existing requests can be done here.
The Rules
- When voting, you can give a brief comment on why you voted the way you did, or you can just leave your signature.
- You can only vote once. Any multiple votes will be removed.
- Put a
#
before your vote to facilitate the vote counting.
- Type
~~~~
after your vote to sign it, whether you are logged in or not. Using the wrong number of "~"s counts as not signing - your signature must have both your signature itself and the time.
- There is a line in each section consisting of "DO NOT ADD COMMENTS OR EDIT ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE". You are to do so; do not just type your vote at the bottom of the editing window. Not following this rule results in your vote being displayed in the wrong place.
- Put your vote below other votes; that is, so the votes are in chronological order.
- You may change or remove your vote at any time. To do this you must remove your old vote in its entirety; this is an exception to the "never remove comments" rule.
- You may only vote in the current fight; all previous fights are closed.
- Do not leave a space between your comment and the ones above it (and/or below it). Extra spacing results in the list numbers becoming disjointed.
- While previewing an edit of a single section, you will see loose formatting marks (such as a trailing
|}
). Do not alter or delete them; they are important to the page's construction and only take effect when the entire round is viewed.
- If there are multiple fights in a single round, try to make all your votes in a single edit.
- Any comments about the fight should be left in the comments section. The following kinds of comments are not allowed:
- Comments relating to how close or one-sided a matchup is.
- Comments about other users' opinions. You can point out that a user may have gotten a fact wrong, but you can't say things along the lines of "That's not a good reason" or "But the other guy is better because X". Users can vote for any reason they want; trying to argue with someone's opinion generally has no positive outcome, in addition to simply inflating the comments section of an already rather long page.
If your vote is not added correctly - specifically, it breaks rules 3, 4, or 5 - you have a short amount of time to fix it (typically between fifteen minutes to an hour). After this time, it may be corrected and moved by any user to the Half-Votes section (adding the unsigned template if necessary), and it will count as half a vote. Attempting to move your vote out of the Half-Votes section may result in it being worth zero at an operator's discretion.
Intentional half-votes undermine the intent of the half-vote system as a way to punish voters for voting incorrectly. It is legal to want a vote to be worth half, but it is very heavily discouraged, and you must state in your vote you want it to be worth half. If you put your vote in the half-votes section without stating reasons why you want it there, it is worth zero and may be deleted by any user. You may replace it later should you do it correctly.
Two generic stages designs with unusual goals: KO prevention and collectible farming. Which special-purpose stage has more support?
Votes for No KO
- No one can escape my clutches of evil.Shanicpower Make it rain! 10:42, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
- You can't run, and you can't hide!174.20.251.84 11:27, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
- I always disapproved of farming for collectibles the way of the CD Factory, I'd rather it be done the slow and fun way, whereas No KO, I often see used well in machinimas, as a sort of jail cell, mostly using drop blocks in the place of spikes. That gives it the edge to me. Toast ltimatum 11:38, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
- Great for Stamina battles. Bandit 11:40, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
- The very first article I ever wrote is finally on the Smash Arena. Mr. Anontalk 11:53, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
- What I do is for this stage is the last person who gets to 999% wins. Terrible is Halloween 11:58, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
- When Toomai is bored enough to discover something in Stamina mode... LightningBlue 00:15, 18 October 2012 (EDT)
- The time when you have more than 300% damage and just fly around whenever you take a hit... DragonMistress (talk) 12:28, 18 October 2012 (EDT) DragonMistress 18:27 18 October 2012
- The CD Factory is indeed very helpful, but I already got every piece of music in Brawl years ago. No KO stages are just plain fun, although the name is moot, seeing as one can escape provided they use certain items or Final Smashes, or by moving at the speed of light. Hawk 21Talk 23:46, 18 October 2012 (EDT)
- This was the one I discovered on my own. But I always use drop-down blocks instead of spikes, save for the corners. The picture shown just looks cruel (though mine is pretty cruel if you have items turned off). JamesHeart123 01:19, 19 October 2012 (EDT)
Votes for CD Factory
- Very helpful, especially when trying to get those last few stickers, which can be a pain to gather. The gimmick of No KO also tends to get boring after a little while, whereas CD Factory always has its use (and multiplayer ones can be an interesting custom stage to fight on). Omega Tyrant 11:56, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
- Helped me get those last few CDs without any obstacles getting in the way. 204.191.143.100 12:36, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
- FishPlay 13:09, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
- This was incredibly useful for collecting the last few stickers, there was only so long I could tolerate playing through the Subspace Emissary levels to hunt for stickers. 110.174.90.69 03:13, 14 October 2012 (EDT)
- Helped me get a few trophies and stickers here and there :) 217.44.196.30 03:10, 15 October 2012 (EDT)
- It involves sandbag. 142.244.111.116 11:33, 15 October 2012 (EDT)
- Discs are more hard to get than long fights. 79.180.246.73 13:53, 15 October 2012 (EDT)
- CDs are extremly hard to get otherwise. Plus it's fun as a normal stage. Nintendosega75 (talk) 12:25, 17 October 2012 (EDT)
- 129.128.29.72 10:02, 18 October 2012 (EDT)
- Getting the last few stickers is a real pain. Gotta give credit where credit is due. Krazy4Krash (talk) 06:45, 19 October 2012 (EDT)
Half-votes
- What's the point of a stage where you can't kill people? And please don't answer that, it was rhetorical. Davsto (talk) 11:14, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
- I have never once used either of these stages; CDs, trophies and such always appeared easily for me, and No KO just seems like a five second thrill, if even that. But I'll give a slight benefit to the CD Factory for at least having a practical use. --- ReiDemon, Author Extraordinaire, 12:49, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
- This would be really helpful if I could just get it to work. But it's stillfun to fight on. The No KO just looks stupid. It's way more fun if you get rid of the highest block on the left. Making it an Almost No KO. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Supersmash4 (talk • contribs) 13:21, 2012 October 13
May I ask why my vote been moved to the half votes section? I checked the rules and it doesn't break any of them. Please put it back to the right place. Davsto (talk) 14:33, 16 October 2012 (EDT)
- Bring it up with ShupaRoeh, he's the one that moved it to the half-votes section. Air Conditioner Come together! 18:17, 16 October 2012 (EDT)
- Read rule 3. ShupaRoeh 18:27, 16 October 2012 (EDT)
- Does that mean I can now just move it straight back into full votes by putting the hash in front of it? Davsto (talk) 12:29, 18 October 2012 (EDT)
- Unfortunately, I don't think you will be able to do that, since somebody beat you to adding the number sign. JamesHeart123 13:17, 18 October 2012 (EDT)
Who invented these special stages? The Awesome 17:56, 18 October 2012 (EDT)
- I invented No KOs, and ReiDemon invented the CD factory. Mr. Anontalk 23:49, 18 October 2012 (EDT)
It's a battle between two versions of the iconic screwball. Is the throwing weapon with a satisfying smack or the sleek and sticky badge the better deal?
Votes for Screw Attack (SSBM)
- More strategy involved. --- ReiDemon, Author Extraordinaire, 23:58, 5 October 2012 (EDT)
- You can hold it forever, while the badge doesn't permanently stay. ShupaRoeh 01:44, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- It's more useful. You can hold onto it forever to use its primary effect, or you can throw at someone for high damage while launching them into the air in a helpless state (the only kind of attack in any Smash game that can do that). Plus, being able to hold it made it invaluable in the Multiman modes. Omega Tyrant 06:06, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- You can throw it to someone who's trying to recover and make them fall helplessly to their doom >:D Bandit 07:50, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- Same as 2 and 3. Terrible is Halloween 08:55, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- I find having to carry the item an inconvenience, as it will overwrite your A button attacks, and I've never yet used it to KO, but then I thought screw it, because it does seem fun to attack with. Toast ltimatum 09:33, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- The Brawl one looks cooler, but this one can be thrown at opponets. Being able to Screw Attack is good in Metroid, not Smash Bros. That's why whenever I got a Screw Attack in Melee, the first thing I'd do is throw it at an opponet. You can't do that in Brawl, so obviously the Melee version is the better one. Supersmash4 (talk) 10:54, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- This one is more useful, you can throw it as opposed to the Brawl one, when thrown at an opponent and hits them, you can punish them. Smash Master 12:12, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- I vote melee--Ikebandwaggon1 (talk) 13:12, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- The sound the comes when you hit someone with it is so awsome!The Cheese 17:58, 7 October 2012 (EDT)
- The Brawl one feels like punishment to get because it hinders your jumping abilities..68.115.61.130 13:08, 9 October 2012 (EDT)
- In Melee, if you throw it at someone, they become helpless after Screw Attacking. I've had a few matches where a simple toss of a Screw Attack dispatches the opponent. Melee it is! Takava (talk) 18:14, 9 October 2012 (EDT)
- I had no idea what I should vote for. So I'm voting for this because I like navy better than that pink... purple... color... thing. Air Conditioner , a real nowhere man 20:31, 10 October 2012 (EDT)
- I never liked the Screw Attack but I feel like I should vote for this one. It has a nice retro feel to it. ChuckNorris 17:11, 11 October 2012 (EDT)
- For almost every reason mentioned above. Shanderu 20:36, 11 October 2012 (EDT)
- I played Brawl, and I want to be able to see my vote. 24.168.110.196 11:19, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- This one's better 'cause one can attack aerially without throwing it and making your opponent spin jump to damage you. 71.199.149.250 11:31, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- Giving your opponent a new way to attack you is just stupid, even if throw damage is given. Toadat9021doh (talk) 11:49, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- Not a finicky throwing item. JamesHeart123 13:48, 7 October 2012 (EDT)
- Because Brawl, that's why. Again... 217.44.196.30 03:22, 9 October 2012 (EDT)
- Because this screw attack is better. The Cool 08:31, 9 October 2012 (EDT)
- My brother and I called this the 'cool jump' before we found out what it was. DragonMistress (talk) 12:24, 10 October 2012 (EDT)
- 129.128.29.73 10:07, 11 October 2012 (EDT)
- I like the black coloration used for the Melee Screw Attack item variant, but I like the implementation Brawl variant better. I'd rather have the item as a Badge than as a singular item (which prevents me from using other attacks or holding other items) despite the shortened usage time in Brawl; the Screw Attack item also seems cooler being used as a "Badge". Also, see Screw Attack (SSB Brawl) Votes #6 and #7. Fenyx4 (talk) 20:12, 12 October 2012 (EDT)
- To make things a little interesting. Brawls of fury (talk) 01:46, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
Black text against a navy background is a horrible, horrible idea. 24.168.110.196 11:18, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- I agree with this sentiment, I have to highlight the text to read it. Omega Tyrant 11:21, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
- The colour is 15 units above the automatic white-text level, but since you complained I'll bump it in. Toomai Glittershine The Frivolous 11:23, 6 October 2012 (EDT)
LOL at ToastUltimatum's Screw Attack pun (Screw Attack (SSB Melee) Vote #6). XD Also, I love this match's description; it also rolls nicely off the tongue when said aloud. Fenyx4 (talk) 20:12, 12 October 2012 (EDT)
- Pun opposes your point of holding an item "screwing" the item. ShupaRoeh 20:55, 12 October 2012 (EDT)
When will this be over!? Terrible is Halloween 09:41, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
- The matches usually last until Friday/Saturday, so a new match should be up sometime today. JamesHeart123 09:56, 13 October 2012 (EDT)
